Talk me down: Anyone get the feeling our current economic woes were deliberate?
Sure, there was fraud as far as the eye can see, but there has ALWAYS been fraud.
But think about it - Republicans, afraid that the new Democratic Congress and President would levy more taxes, move off fossil fuel, etc...they stage this market crash so the new President is too busy saving the economy instead of building safety nets. Remember, the Republicans want us all ignorant, angry and desperate. We work for less that way.
The reason I say this is the tech sector is only getting hit with the ripples that make it across the market. Usually the tech sector is your best bellwether for the real economy, since its one of the few meritocracies left.
Talk me down guys and gals...
The bartending primitive's trying to outdo Playboy Pedro when it comes to paranoia, but the bartending primitive's got a l-o-n-g ways to go yet, to catch up.

1. of course it was deliberate
one benefit: more poor, more men going into the military
a military the neo cons need to keep the money rolling into their pockets and to keep power over resources.

6. Another bonus: It is agiant albatros around O's neck, it will prevent him from getting all those pesky changes implemented. It also gives the Pigs something to rabble rouse about.
And the BIG reason: It allowed Bush and Paulson to pull off the biggest smash and grab heist in history.
Uh, who controlled Congress 2007-2009?

2. Possible. After the Civil War, didn't a lot of people go into the South and buy up property cheap?
at this point, it seems there will be a lot of "destroyed" property that will either go to a few who can afford it or it will be somehow channeled to working families.
Which way will we go?
Sometimes it seems less by design than just the results of weak governmental oversight.

3. a lot of the democratic congress is also beholden to corporations and their perks. and wasnt it Clinton who played the Nafta card that led to some of this? the economy has been f*cked for a long time, and I am surprised the crash didnt occur sooner. GOPers and DINOs arent too different to me these days.

5. I think it was deliberate, but the source was the Bush Administration.....
I have always thought that Bush & thugs caused this, and planned it a long time ago.
Oh my. A sockpuppet of Playboy Pedro here, the squeamish pond primitive?

11. I won't talk you down. I believe it's been a serious 'purpose driven' plan since Nixon when there was some 'magic' that caused the USSR and China to become capitalists and the U.S. to become a serf nation. We're not all serfs yet, but the seeds were sowed then. Kissinger could explain it all. Armand Hammer.
The message was to hate Communisms while trade was trade talks took off - for the benefit of whom. We've never had balance with China. And while we continuted to hate, we got into the weapons business big time.
The 'warming up' negotiations was a deal - a long term deal.
The efficiencies of having a world wide labor force was born.
Your sentence is correct in part -
"...the Republicans want us all ignorant, angry and desperate."
The part that's wrong is that it isn't just Republicans.
Actually, I suspect Rutherford B. Hayes devised this plan.
The warped primitive, way out of her element, her expertise:

12. Nah, I think the ideologues are genuinely astonished that their rehashed mercantilism has led to another collapse. They truly believed all that crap they were spouting and having that idiot Milton Friedman given the Nobel (presumably for the density of his prose rather than the soundness of his ideas) only sealed the deal. They honestly believe that everything flows from the top down, their most basic fallacy.
Every empire has had to face the awful truth that expanding on the backs of starving peasants only rots the whole enterprise from the inside, leading to collapse. This is just another chapter in a very old book.
Oh my. I wonder why I've always been left out of these nefarious plans, especially given that franksolich is a long-time insider. Damn.

Most of that is simple paranoia, but this is nothing less than stupidity:

It's as if John Maynard Keynes is the only economist that should ever be referenced. Another example; to them, the history of the world started with 1930's Germany and all events of which they disapprove can be directly linked to Nazi Germany. Look up the term "short-sighted" and no doubt one of the links would be to sites like the DUmp.
While it might occur to them that their own comrades who lowered the lending standards and then mandated that risky loans be made could have been a factor, they can't permit themselves to either believe or admit it. To try and explain to them that it was the major factor in all this is more than their feeble little pinheads can handle. Their only recourse is to conjure up some grand conspiracy theory where their good intentions, which are above reproach, could never be to blame, so it had to be undermined for some nefarious purpose.

The GOP can barely win 1/3 of the seats in Congress and this person thinks they have the power to stage an economic meltdown??
-
Rutherford B. Hayes, you BASTARD!!!!!!! And, as a life-long capitalist, I'm upset that I never got the memo.
-
Well the jig is up guys. They figured out our neferious plot. I guess we'll have to stay after school and put the economy back to the way it was.

Not me. I believe everything flows from the bottom up. That's why anytime I've been searching for a job I've visited Dork, the homeless wino first. He's so close to the bottom he's got to be making good things happen. :mental:

Doesn't appear they are taking much ownership for spending $50 million dollars and over a year pounding home the message about how we are in the worst economy ever, which was actually in fair shape when they started and still is a hellofa long way from 'Worst' despite their success in crushing consumer and market confidence.

Yes, the Republicans engineered a financial crisis that pretty much guaranteed they'd lose the election and lose billions upon billions in corporate dollars (which they supposedly care more about then the "little guy"). Of course no one has yet figured out HOW this keeps them rich and in power (since government will now be effectively telling them what they can earn) but that's just a minor detail. Why let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory. :mental:

I hate to agree with the primitive, but I think the economic mess was actively sought by the left. Ever since the slight recession that put another unqualified man, billy jeff, into the presidency the left has worked to make the public feel that these were the worst of times. for six ling years we heard how it was the worst economy since the depression. Trouble is their plans went just a little too far. chucky schummer leaking about a bank going under. Dingy harry leaking about a major insurance company. non-stop msm coverage all just went farther than they thought. Now what they have on their hands is a true crisis in in the faith of the American people. Yes, things are going to get worse than they ever thought. It is not going to be like the early 90s when it bounced back. This will be long and the plans the donks have are only going to make it longer and harder (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/04/cbo-obama-stimulus-harmful-over-long-haul/).
So yes, I think the left worked very hard for over seven years to make a crisis of the economy. The problem is that it went a little too far. They have ineffectual congressional leadership and a complete and utter empty suit in the WH. The plan succeeded so spectacularly that the democrats are going to get all the credit for what it will bring including massive shifts in the public perception of liberalism, socialism, and the misery those ideologies bring with them.
