ROCHELLE RILEY: Black History Month

I propose that, from this day forward, we stop telling the tale of two Americas and instead document and celebrate the full and storied, multicultural and multidimensional story that is America in all of its colors, geographies and passions, in all of its ups, downs and exhortations.

I propose that, for the first time in American history, this country has reached a point where we are can stop celebrating separately, stop learning separately, stop being American separately. We have reached a point where most Americans want to gain a larger understanding of the people they have not known, customs they have not known, traditions they have not known.

I propose that this month. 142 years after Congress passed the Reconstruction Acts of 1867 that allowed for the Southern states to be re-admitted to the Union, we adopt our own personal reconstruction goals to admit into our lives people who are different, people whose origins differ from ours, people who can teach us so much if we listen.

This is from the biggest racial bigot on the face of the planet. I'm shocked, I tell you. Shocked. I expect cats to play with dogs and normal people and moonbats to come together. Nah........strike that last part. :uhsure:

Let me repeat. She is the most racist piece of scum in the media. That says a lot.

She also said, "It is now time that American history be American history every day, that Americans be Americans all the time and that we stop learning and living and celebrating separately."

It's been long long overdue that American history be American history daily.

It's time we do away with "hyphenated" American tags, especially for and among those who've exploited that hyphenation to its utmost. And still do.

Even when said highest-profile exploiter really is fully bi-racial (though, white and black; or, if you read Riley's piece, black and white is how she ordered colors) and not really a true "African American" in the historical sense of the word.

I think Americans like the Tuskeegee Airmen still deserve their due because they fought so valiantly for a nation they knew had the power within itself to undo its injustices.

How long before LULAC, the United Negro College Fund and the NAACP, etc.  close up shop?

About 2:30 p.m. on the fourteenth of NEVER would be my guess.

You're absolutely right. Had the opportunity to meet one and chat briefly with him. Saw another in a restaurant in central N.C., identified by his ball cap and a tee-shirt and/or jacket -- and went over and shook his hand and thanked him for his valiant service.

These men were and are true American heroes. And should be remembered as such. Especially for what they went through to become the heroes they were or are.

IMHO the only thing that Black History Month does is to keep racism alive.

It doesn't really need any help with the Magic Half Negro in office and Shakedown Al Sharptooth and Je$$e Jacka$$son around.
