The CIA’s secret prisons are being shuttered. Harsh interrogation techniques are off-limits. And Guantanamo Bay will eventually go back to being a wind-swept naval base on the southeastern corner of Cuba.
But even while dismantling these programs, President Obama left intact an equally controversial counter-terrorism tool.
Under executive orders issued by Obama recently, the CIA still has authority to carry out what are known as renditions, secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States.
Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said that the rendition program might be poised to play an expanded role going forward because it was the main remaining mechanism — aside from Predator missile strikes — for taking suspected terrorists off the street.

Alas, redstate has underestimated the stupidity of our political counterparts. He writes:
And when I say “back†I mean that it’s going to become the damned default option for detainees. You howled when we tried to go with an unlawful detainee designation to handle these cases; you shrieked when we set up Gitmo; and you’d whine if we shot them out of hand. The only thing left is to hand these sons of bitches over to countries without our Bill of Rights and hope that this is enough.
You see, the libtards WILL insist on full Bill of Rights protections for any suspected terrorist captured by US forces.
Will it matter that they aren't US citizens or taken on US soil? No
Will it matter that they are, by definition, unlawful combatants? No
Will the legal process waive rules of discovery to protect sources and methods? No
Will they overlook speedy trial provisions while interrogations continue? No
Will they bypass Miranda provisions? No
Will the exclusionary rule be set aside because soldiers aren't cops? No
These idiots do not operate on any recognizeable plane of reality. All they know is hatred of us because they're supposed to be smarter than us; so whatever we want they oppose even if they have to lose all semblance of rationality to do it.
