i was disappointed with TNG. I watched it, but picard seemed like a social worker, while kirk shot first, and asked questions later.
-
I enjoyed it at the time, but it hasn't aged well. 90's-era TV special effects, cheezy sets and props, and really bad writing. Like Voyager, I preferred the later episodes after Denise Crosby left. The "strong woman" cliche got to be really grating and she wasn't a very good actor to begin with.
I'm glad the Tar Monster got her.

tar. what a way to die. :whatever:

What do you expect?
Picard was French.
it's a good thing that the enterprise didn't have backup lights.

Crosby actually got booted from the show for posing nude in Playboy.
A real disappointment there too.

TNG is on the Chicao WGN channel for the next two hours. :)

Yeah. That did wonders for her career.
Poor Bing.

Yeah, but their some of the lamer episodees. The whole "Death for walking on flowers!" thing always bugged me.

They're all reruns. :(
I admit, that was one of the stupider episodes.

There were a small number of really good episodes of TNG
When Picard lives and entire lifetime in a sort of dream was great. And the one where he meets up with a species that speaks completely through allegory was thought-provoking.
But the frequent fallback on "space/time continuum" up to and especially including the last episode was a constant cop-out. "Oh, the Enterprise exploded? That really didn't happen in this timeline!"
About 1/2 of the episodes were riffs on TOS.
But it was good fun. Not like that POS DS9.
-
Oh, hell. I forgot about DS9. I think I watched a handfull of episodes... it was so bad, I never watched it again. Ditto for Enterprise. If they had picked anyone other than Scott Bakula for a captain, I might have watched it.

I watched 1 episode of Enterprise -- there was so much wrong about that program that I couldn't even start a list.
And I will NOT be seeing the new ST:wittle kiddies movie.
-
The retarded flower episode is nearly over. Maybe they'll put on something worth watching next.
Oh jeez. Its the Ferengi. :whatever:

Worst. Episode. Ever.

I love TNG. *runs*
Of course I spent all of my college years watching it while enjoying adult beverages. :-)
Love, love, love the episode where Picard lives an enitre lifetime. The end with the flute playing is great.
I also loved the way they brought Tasha back with the whole Romulan/time rift thing.
Yes, there were some incredibly cheesy episodes but overall, there were plenty of good ones. I'm biased I guess.

'Encounter at Farpoint' was on last week. The Q episodes were my favorite, but this one reminded me of the final episode of Seinfeld where they are all put on trial.

I never cared for the Q episodes -- except for the one where they show the continuum as an old homestead and the universe as a pinball game.
But how Picard kept "outwitting" an omniscient creature and how Riker returned that omniscience when given it just didn't track.
He's omniscient! Negotiating with him is like waiting for Wowbagger.

I enjoyed Enterprise. I remember seeing a lot of people rant and rave about the "liberal messages" put into it, but I honestly think that was people looking for reasons not to like the show.
And I was not a fan of TOS, but I will watch the new movie. They got a pretty good cast for it, so I'm being optimistic.

Q wasn't omniscient. He was a trickster god. More or less a reflection of the entire 24th century unconscious mind and in many cases Picard's unconscious mind specifically.
Often times the unconscious mind represents itself to the conscious mind as being omniscient because it is a broader expression of the conscious mind and from the conscious mind's perspective it may as well be omniscient. And, in fact, it is usually the conscious mind that just assumes the unconscious or subconscious is omniscient.
Picard's disdain for Q in the Farpoint episode is echoed by Cartmen many years later in the Go God Go episode of South Park when his present/future self calls his pre-frozen past self and tries to convince his past self not to freeze himself in an attempt to not have to wait 3 months for the Nintendo Wii. The Future/Present Cartman with the broader perspective tries to warn the past Cartman that the plan will fail, Past Cartman doesn't believe him, not having lived the failure of the experience yet and hangs up on Future/Present Cartman to which the Future/Present Cartmen exclaims, "I hate that guy."
In an overly circuitous manner, Q always revealed something in his visits whether it was a lifeform being abused by the Farpoint people or the coming menace of the Borg. Probably my favorite Q episode is where he sends Picard back to before he got an artificial heart even though it was more or less a Wonderful Life redux. Picard's disdain for Q was his own disdain for himself.

Star Trek TNG and Voyager both had uber-liberal messages embedded.

It finally made me understand socialism in a way nothing else ever did:
Socialism=Applied Boredom

Ain't that the truth. Collectivism, the UFP, no money, the Prime Directive (which Kirk properly tossed aside as needed). It was a freaking commercial for the UN.
I think the Klingons should have won.

Deep Space Nine was my favorite of all the Trek series'. (Any doubters should check my screen name.) It was the one show that didn't have candy-assed commies looking disdainfully down their noses at the fruit of the sweat of a man's brow (money), and wasn't so up to it's eyeballs in bending over and grabbing the ankles for another "negotiation session" with the enemy.
And then of course, there was the Defiant, the perfect wet dream for a technophile such as myself...

What -- Sisko goes out, gets his ass kicked (again) and comes back and broods a lot.
And the Defiant got its ass handed to it more often than not.
The Defiant was added because of the ST formula of "a ship." But it didn't help the ratings and eventually DS9 was mercifully dropped.

I liked DS9 too. It had a good story although I felt the ending seemed abrupt. Babylon 5 did it better, IMO, but for Trek DS9 was pretty good. I liked Enterprise too, even the goofy time war arc.
Voyager, I watched for the cute blond chick and then for 7 of 9. It was almost predictable that at the end of every season they cut 10,000 light years off their 70,000 light year journey home. And as I recall, the pilot episode was pretty good.

The first time we heard Janeway speak. my wife cracked up -- she thought it was a parody.
And when Chakote mutinied against her, she should have spaced his ass, not just given him the booboo lip.

Mrs Columbo does have an annoying voice. I remember the first time I heard her say "peacan pie" I almost swore off the series, in fact I did until I caught that episode where that cute blond chick got possessed by some guy who had her wearing tight black leather pants and from there I pretty much just watched the the "boob-cam" as I came to call it when 7 of 9 came on the show.
If you can't do good stories, at least have hot chicks.
Oh yeah, really hated the love story between the half-vulcan chick and the bad boy from TNG but one of the best lines from Voyager: Get the cheese to sickbay.

The original Star Trek owned any of the later "Treks". They beat the shit out of the baddies, had sex, and killed more baddies.
