Title: ‘Jimmy Carter’ tag has Obama wincing

LESS than two weeks into his administration, President Barack Obama is being portrayed by opponents as a new Jimmy Carter - weak at home and naive abroad - in an attempt to dim his post-election glow and ensure that he serves only one term.

The charge has stung because it was made privately by Hillary Clinton supporters during a hard-fought primary campaign and plays to fears about Obama’s inexperience.

He is engaged in early trials of strength with Republicans in Washington and critics of the United States around the world – not least Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president. Obama faces battles to talk Wall Street into giving up its addiction to large bonuses and US banks to start lending again.

“Barack Obama thinks he can charm his adversaries into changing their ways but his personality can’t change the dynamics,” said Tom Edmonds, a Republican consultant.

Carter was an incompetent boob that fit the stealth candidate the dems needed in 1976 post Watergate.
Still have to say though he at least did serve as a Governor and in the Navy so in many ways he was more experienced then O is,being an opportunistic hack from a corrupt party machine.

It doesn`t bode well for the country.

If he screws up bad enough congress will revert back to the GOP in 2010 with Steele at the helm.

That bodes slightly better.

I thought in 1980 that no democrat from the south would ever be elected President again.
I also thought Clinton would give us hyper-inflation.

So I am not good at predictions here.

But things are rough out there, and I so hope I am wrong about Obama too.   My boy will be entering the workforce in 18 months.    I would not wish what we had to go through during the Carter years on him.

I might make him more appreciative of how bad things can be.  I'm not sure what my reservist son is going to do do when he gets back from Iraq later this year.  So I know what you mean.

Sounds like the UK Times is about six months behind everyone else.

The deal is, most of the people that were his adherents are as fickle as the wind.  He went up in a big way, like Carter did,  He will fall down in a big way, like Carter did.

I don't know who he or she is, but somewhere out there there is a republican who will harvest the whirlwind of 0bama the same way Reagan did in 1980.  I sort of like a  ticket of Linda from HI and Sarah.
