The Obama administration has asked the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff to cut the Pentagon's budget request for the fiscal year 2010 by more than 10 percent -- about $55 billion -- a senior U.S. defense official tells FOX News.
Last year's defense budget was $512 billion. Service chiefs and planners will be spending the weekend "burning the midnight oil" looking at ways to cut the budget -- looking especially at weapons programs, the defense official said.
Some overall budget figures are expected to be announced Monday.
Obama met Friday at the White House with a small group of military advisers, including Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. James Cartwright, vice chairman, and Gen. Jim Jones, National Security Council chairman.

The joint chiefs should just look at the key weapons and aircraft systems that are built or housed in the states of the members of the Senate and House Defense Appropriations Committees and say "my bad, we really don't need this stuff":

Peter J. Visclosky (IN)
James P. Moran (VA)
Marcy Kaptur (OH)
Allen Boyd (FL)
Steven R. Rothman (NJ)
Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA)
Maurice D. Hinchey (NY)

Hey Mr. President, when you are at war it is not an optimal time to cut your defense budget. Just a thought there Mr. Changemaker.

are you suggesting they introduce Congress and 0bama to the law of unintended consequences?
cuts in Murtha's district should go over real well with the constituents, especially after he has the gitmo detainees moved there...

Considering the two front war we are fighting now...it's the absolute WRONG time to have headlines like this.
Especially in the weapon systems area.
Some of those "weapons systems" include things like MRAPS's...body armor and every single thing the Libs have spent the last 8 years raking the DoD and the former President over the coals about for allegedly not supplying enough of them to the troops.
The living soldiers that the Libtards claim they care so much about...won't survive on the battlefield if the tools they need to keep them alive are yanked right out from under them.
-
Another roll of the dice by 0bama... he's betting (soldier's) lives that they won't get killed in a way that could be linked to these cuts. I hope he wins that bet, but I fear he won't

$1.2 TRILLION including interest, for the No Job Pork Bill added to the national debt is swell, but cut the defense budget? As I wrote MONTHS ago, he's an empty suit. An empty suit with a socialist bent.

I think America's external enemies, especially the Islamofascists, will be making that introduction at times and places of their plotting and choice.
-
Yet he wants to increase the number of troops in Afghanistan. With a gutted military?
I guess if you deny there's an ongoing War on Terror, it doesn't matter as long as ACORN gets their four billion bonus.
Look how Imadeinnerjacket responded - they know the US is weak, Barack Hussein Obama is worse than Jimmuh Carter, the latter took longer than two weeks to screw up the US in foreign affairs.
-
Did anyone here actually expect anything else? If they did, I own this antique suspension bridge I'd be willing to let go,,,,cheap.

It would certainly suck to be him come the next go around at re election.

If that's the bridge of which I'm thinking, it's a fine one. Lived in the borough for which it's named, including the year of its 100th birtday. What a jewel.
And, no, I doubt anyone expected anything less of Obama. I pray he doesn't try to outdo Clinton, however, on how much the military was both jutted and demoralized. Seems, though, His Cozy-Up-To-Dictators-And-Terrorists is off to a good start, if that's his plan.

I may be wrong but, save for the looniest of the left as typified by DU, most Americans love the military. Now, those of us on the right howled that B Hussein O would gut the military, leave us unable to handle crises and entice our every enemy.
How is it that the center rights and moderates and even blue dog dems allowed themselves to be snookered?
Who amongst us did NOT see this coming?

couldn't give ya names, but there's about 60M of 'em

I can't help but think those people are naturally pro-military and voted with a sense of suspended disbelief.
"Nah! Obama wouldn't REALLY do that, would he?"
-
At least it's not the 25 pecent old "Butt-Plug Barney" wanted. Not YET, anyway. Where's that YouTube video of the Zerobama commercial telling us how he was going to gut the military? I swear to Christ, these people have learned NOTHING. First the "hollow force" under Carter, then Clinton, now the Big Zero. Even when you include BOTH Afghanistan and Iraq supplemental spending bills, we still spend less than 4 percent of GDP on defense. This is a historically low figure, but Zerobama is not going to be happy until the military is gutted to make way for his "national security force".
I guess I better cling to another gun...

It will get there though. And you can bet the "growing" of the forces that was started two years ago will halt to.
They won't take it all back in one big chunk. It'll be a death by a thousand small cuts.

I seriously worry about the Messiah cutting the Navy back. Once ships are laid up, it's hard to get them back out. Remember Carter's gutting, it was ugly.
