Title: 01-30 Friday
Post by: franksolich on January 30, 2009, 06:33:31 AM
It's supposed to snow in the Sandhills of Nebraska today, high expected to be circa 38 degrees, small wind.

I'm going nuts.

How's the voice, Frank?  Has it returned?

And I second the vacation idea...I know its your busy time of year, but you should take a weekend and head south!

As for me, still snow/ice on the ground, but no snow in the forecast.  High in the 30s today.  Supposed to hit the mid 40s on Sunday, though, before the next storm comes through.

Taking my daughter to the eye Dr after school today...that's about the only "exciting" thing I have going on.

You know, sir, I was born and raised in Nebraska.

And then I've spent two-thirds of my adult life in Nebraska.

So I've seen a lot of Nebraska weather.

It's been colder before, and we've had more snow before, but this winter surely has to rate as the worst one in my own lifetime.

Ever since December 3rd, we've had unrelenting frigid temperatures or snow.

Sometimes both.

With no break, no interruption.  This must be like upstate New York.

During winters in Nebraska, it's more usual to have "breaks"--a week, ten days, two weeks--in between snow, during which time the wind and higher temperatures erode  the snow.  It's been weeks since I've last seen the William Rivers Pitt, which is usually a prominent landmark.

And generally any given winter, a week, ten days, no more than two weeks, of frigid temperatures.

Well, the frigid temperatures appear to be behind us now, but we did have five weeks--five weeks--of them.

Come spring, with all this snow melts, Nebraska's likely to float out to the ocean.

Maybe the freeloading bum the wily primitive, instead of building his ark in the mountains and woods of Tennessee, intending to float it out to sea, should have built his ark out here.

38?  Gawd I wish.

12's today, probably working tomorrow.  Very nice of the bosses to not give me a day (Saturday, at that) to get my house straightened up and last-minute business taken care of before leaving for Iowa on Sunday.

Up earlier this morning in order to prepare for a job interview. It's not much of a job, however, it's something. It's sunny outside and supposed to get up to 62°. I'm glad I'm away from the frozen tundra land of MN.

Good luck today, sir, and a caveat on the interview for something that's "not much of a job."

It doesn't happen all the time, but there's been times when I've gone in for something "not much of a job," but then within days or weeks, maybe a month, it turned out being something much more, and much more remunerated, than first impressions had led me to believe.

Yea!  Friday!

It's supposed to be up to 62 today, I'm wearing flip flops.   :-)

I'm in charge of bringing dip to the festivities on Sunday, and I left my grocery list at home.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Frank. It's a help desk job for some DSL provider, or so I'm lead to believe. Not sure if the pay is worth the drive up to Durant and then OK state taxes withheld, in addition. I'm not sure what OK state income taxes are.

It 30 here with a chill of 23, but at least the sun is out right now, with possible flurries at some point.

The weather persons are already forecasting snow Monday and Tuesday.....rain turning to snow with "significant accumulation".....last time we had one of those was in '93 ...with about 20 INCHES of snow, trees down everywhere, no power at my house for 5 days and the kids were out of school for 2 weeks!! (due to basically no snowplows and all the hills...all snow and ice on the roads must be gone throughout the entire county before kids go back to school)

Supposed to be working...but I don't wanna. My closing from last Monday still hasn't happened due to the incompetency of the lender..... :censored: :censored: :censored:....I'm starting to wonder if it's really going to happen. It's not my buyer, but my listing. I've had dealings with this lender before....don't trust 'em at all!!!

Good luck on your interview, Thor....maybe this will be the start of something new!!!

What's everyone up to?  I'm antsy to get my drink on, I'm not gonna lie :)  lol

I'm torn between doing "work" for the rest of the afternoon, studying, or just proceeding with my Anthony Bourdain watching before moving into the golf tourney.  Decisions decisions.  lol

I hope everyone's having a fab Friday!

Indeed, I looked up the herb dip recipe I'm using, so now I got my grocery list prepared for after work.

I'm making queso, herb dip and a ranch/bacon/cheese dip.  Yum!

Speaking of exciting things to do on a Friday, I shall be starting my weekend off with a biggie. I'm about to head out to Kohl's to return/exchange not one, but two pairs of pants!!

 :cheersmate:

Then it's off to the K-roger for milk, meat, beer and likewise thirilling objects to fill the bare shelves of the fridge and kitchen in general.

wOOt!!

Alas, it all ends back home where the laundry needs attention and I shall cook dinner and start drinking whiskey. Gotta get good and loopy and work the courage up to pester and objectify the ladies of the CC here in the lounge later tonight.

 :uhsure:

My wife just called me from work almost in tears.  She is having Executive level stress, sturm and drang heaped on her.

We are going out for dinner tonight at a local restaurant we both love.  Sounds like she could use it. :(

Okay, today was lazy day.  Picked up paycheck and W2 form, deposited the former and am working on e-filing with the latter.  Picked up a package with home-made soup in it (a request for my mom's fantastic vegetable beef soup...amazing the. type of shipping boxes for frozen things that businesses can come up with.  The soup was still frozen solid, even after its journey.

Right now, I'm having Tabasco snowball wars on Facebook, if anyone is interested in joining. :p

Today was good & bad. I got the job in Oklahoma IF I want it. (It's 20 miles away, all highway) I aced their "tech support" test  ::) The bad part is that I can't find my passport or SSAN Card. My birth Cert is somewhere up in MN. So, without those two, I can't be "employed"  :argh: I have a duplicate birth cert & SSAN Card on the way. A new passport will cost me $100+ and I don't have that to spare right now, besides, my birth cert and SSAN Card will arrive long before the new passport.

Congrats on the job! H5 dude. (if you want it)

It's been years and years since I lived in Oklahoma but I don't recall needing a passport to get in and out. Is there a land rush redo I don't know about??

Five of my co-workers were laid off this week. My workload doubled overnight. And then I was told I had to take a mandatory 10-day furlough, split up.

So if I was laid off, I would have been screwed. I'm still working and I'm screwed.

Yeah, it's been kind of a craptacular week.

Congrats on the job, Thor. :)  I'm being put back on the project I was doing before I had my hours changed.  I got an email from the dept manager asking me to read up on an ASA 5510 Intrusion Prevention System.  Whee!  Other than that, today was more of the same.

I'm off tomorrow, and I have beer.  Life is okay (until the beer runs out).

My birth Cert is up in MN someplace. I have ordered a new copy of both, but that'll take a couple of weeks.  :( My SSAN Card and Passport would work as showing that i'm legal for employment. Ohhh, and the OK job wants a copy of my high school diploma :???: That was 33 years ago and a dozen moves since. I have NO clue where that may be. I haven't seen that in as many years.

State of TN required my HS diploma in order for me to get licensed in real estate...I thought I would never find it. Finally found it stashed in a box in the attic. They wouldn't accept my college diploma  :thatsright:.....I knew where it was!

You might be able to call your old high school and ask them if they can provide something for you.

According to the HR guy, I should be able to go to the high school and get a copy or something. I will have to call them on Monday. Fortunately, I'm once again in the same town as my high school. So, that's no big deal. The other thing about my birth cert is that I was adopted by my step-dad. I could go and get my ORIGINAL birth Cert, but it doesn't have my same last name. I do have access to the adoption papers. But...... I answered the job application wrong as far as any other last names. Nothing ever happened to me under my original birth name, so I never even use that.

My step-mother adopted me when I was almost 15 after she married my dad (and was put in charge of my trust fund  :( ). What I didn't know, is that it created an entirely new birth certificate. Found out when I called the state for a copy of it to register to vote.

When I went home for Christmas break that year, I found my original. I've used it ever since.....it is who I really am.  :censored: One of these days, I swear I'm going to pay a lawyer to switch it back to my original.
