The 15-year-old driver of a car that crashed into a Fontana home may have been the brother of a 9-year-old passenger in the back seat, authorities said today.
The two boys and an 11-year-old front-seat passenger, who was the driver's friend, died in the Wednesday night accident. All three boys were residents of Fontana, said Officer Joe Ramos of the California Highway Parol.
Fontana Police Department officials Luis Tejeda , left, and Efrain Gonzalez put up caution tape around a home damaged when it was rammed by a car driven by a 15-year-old boy. Officials said the driver was fleeing a California Highway Patrol officer at more than 90 mph when the boy lost control and crashed into the house, killing himself and two passengers, ages 9 and 11.

1. 90mph police chases. I have a problem with these.
The police endanger the public in these chases.
A friend on mine's father died when police chased a driver into wrong way traffic.

7. I don't pretend to have a clue about a solution.
But if the policy becomes "Police end a chase if it exceeds X mph or if it becomes dangerous" then wouldn't most criminals just go X mph or engage in dangerous driving in hopes of losing the police?
Honestly I don't think there IS a solution that doesn't involve risk to innocents, and that's sad.

9. I don't have the answer either.
But, several cars driving 90mph on public streets increases the risk over one car speeding

15. Just follow in a helicopter until the gas runs out?
I think way too many cops get hardons over this kind of shit. A stolen car is just a thing and not worth ANYONE'S LIFE.
Too bad nobody told the punk driver.

35. How do police know that it's just a matter of a stolen car?
How are they supposed to know that the person isn't fleeing because they are wanted for murder, or because they just robbed a convenience store, or because they have a kidnapped kid in the trunk?
It's easy to say after the fact that its not worth it for police to chase someone fleeing in a car, but it's another matter altogether to come up with an alternative policy.

39. So cops should just assume every car they chase is full of Baby Jesus killing monsters?
If they get a call for a shooter fleeing, OK by all means chase away. But to assume that everyone who flees is guilty of something that is worth putting innocent lives in danger is ****ing stupid.
:thatsright:

22. Cruisers have cameras. Get a pic of the car and its tags, and track it
down later. The cop saw them, and very few 15 yr olds look like adults, and no 11 and 9 year olds do. He knew they were children. He could have called it in, and left it to later. A kid running a red light is not worth a 90mph chase.

2. Where were the parents?
How is this kid driving a car at 15? Why are we blaming the police when clearly the legal guardian/parent is at fault here?

6. "Why do so many people want to blame the parents for the actions of their kids?"
because minor children ARE the responsibility of the parents, THAT'S why.
did i ever sneak out of the house? yes.
did i ever steal a car? NO.
somewhere along the line, the parents dropped the ball, BIG TIME.

Obviously, they all read the article... ::) ::)
The driver had been pulled over at 8:55 p.m. on Sierra Avenue near the 210 Freeway for running a red light, according to a CHP statement.
"The officer walked up to the car, and the driver's vehicle sped away," said CHP Officer Steven Cuevas. "A pursuit was initiated. It was under two minutes, then the driver lost control."

I like the headline from the nydailynews.com (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2009/01/29/2009-01-29_boy_15_kills_himself_and_passengers_11_a.html) better. It's more truthful.
"Boy, 15, kills himself and passengers, 11 and 9, after leading cops on high speed car chase in Ca."

Amazingly , none of the 5 people in the house were injured.
