Say HELLO to our new moderators!
As usual, we had a good response to our call for moderators, and it was extremely difficult to narrow the field down. We had to turn down a number of very qualified people. We hope that everyone who applied to serve as a moderator this turn will consider applying again next term.
A moderator switch is always a little chaotic, so I want to apologize in advance for any problems that may arise over the next few days. Thank you for your understanding.
Please take a moment to say hello to our new moderators, and to express your gratitude to our retiring moderators.

Fat Che, Ben Burch, Master Ben, whatever; he'll never get back on to Skins's island.
It was funny--in fact, hilarious--when Fat Che was exiled by my fellow alum Skins.
There followed a flurry of messages between Fat Che and Skins, in which Fat Che kept begging and pleading to be let back on.
Skins led Fat Che on, making Fat Che think Skins was reconsidering it.....if Fat Che would debase and humiliate himself just a little bit more.
And so it went, Fat Che groveling more and more, and my fellow alum leading him on, so Fat Che'd grovel still yet more.
Fat Che was blubbering like a fat little baby by the time Skins quit the game.

I've been following along pretty well, but here is what I'm wondering:
Are the 'primitives' and 'DUmmies' the same thing all being posters from DU (democratic underground)?
What is this reference to 'Skin's Island'? Is that another different forum, or just a nickname for DU?

Frank, can you please post your definitions threads for Kay?
And if we could sticky them that would be better, still.
If I can't find them, then our newer members certainly will have difficulty.
Kay -- "Primitives" are indeed "DUmmies." "Skin's Island" is indeed DU. The DUmp and DUmpster are DU.
Rather than get mad at them -- think of them as primates flinging poo -- we find them an endless source of amusement.
Frank keeps an eye on them because his interest is purely sociological/anthropological. Think of him as the Jane Goodall watching the primates' activities.

Just finished reading the whole thread linked above.
I highly recommend that to anyone else who might be new here.
Very enlightening and entertaining.
Franksolich uses words on cyber-paper like an artist uses paints on canvas.
For example:
"Bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive" is awesome, musically, lyrical;
it bubbles off as if a harp being played alongside a flowing brook.

Sorry about the confusion, madam.
"DUmmies" and "primitives" are the same things, the first term being much older than the second, and in much wider use.
There is a slight variation in definition, although it's fine to use either term interchangeably. Most think of them as "DUmmies" when they're being stupid or silly or retarded, and as "primitives" when they're being violent and barbaric.
One uses whichever term one feels most comfortable using.
"DUmmieland" and "Skins's island" are the same thing, again, the first term being much older than the second, and in much wider use.
There is a slight variation in definition, although it's fine to use either term interchangeably. Most think of it as "DUmmieland" when it resembles a bunch of DUmmies running amok in an amusement park, and as "Skins's island" when it resembles a distant isolated remote little island far removed from the real world, or the wider world.
One uses whichever term one feels most comfortable using.

I can't believe that Wickerman is quitting as a mod. He was a mod forever. He ruled the Gungeon with a iron fist.
