GORE HEARING ON WARMING MAY BE PUT ON ICE
Mon Jan 26 2009 17:59:26 ET
Al Gore is scheduled before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday morning to once again testify on the 'urgent need' to combat global warming.
But Mother Nature seems ready to freeze the proceedings.
A 'Winter Storm Watch' has been posted for the nation's capitol and there is a potential for significant snow... sleet... or ice accumulations.
"I can't imagine the Democrats would want to showcase Mr. Gore and his new findings on global warming as a winter storm rages outside," a Republican lawmaker emailed the DRUDGE REPORT. "And if the ice really piles up, it will not be safe to travel."
A spokesman for Sen. John Kerry, who chairs the committee, was not immediately available to comment on contingency plans.
Global warming advocates have suggested this year's wild winter spells are proof of climate change.
Developing...
Give the poor dumb bastard credit for one thing--he really, REALLY tries.

Considering the snow that is falling here in D.C. right now....I doubt anyone is concerned with Global 'warming" in the District at this moment.
-
Used to be cold weather followed a Gore visit, now it precedes him..... :rotf:

It won't stop the global warming nuts from continuing their campaign, however. No amount of evidence against their argument will because to them everything proves global warming. Really hot temperatures prove global warming, but so to really low temperatures. Very little snow proves global warming, but so does a lot of snow. Increased strength and frequency of hurricanes proves global warming, but so does decreased strength and frequency. The evidence is made to fit the theory (conjecture, more like it), making it unfalsifiable and thus invalid science.

That's why they keep trying to change the term to "climate change", so it fits any circumstances.

Oh my.
One's been waiting a very long time for the nocturnally foul one to show up, to explain all of this. But as evidence mounts that "climate change" is a fraud, the nocturnally foul one stays away, perhaps out of shame or embarrassment or humiliation.
One wishes the nocturnally foul one could understand that just because he's wrong, doesn't mean we don't like him.

Divine intervention.

Unfortunately, the wackos have a blank check for the next two years at least. The one bright spot is that the more insane they get trying to "Help the Chilllllldren," the sooner they will bring on their own demise, but it's going to be a terrible trip getting to the turnaround point.

I really love the fact that congress seems to be putting glowbull warming above all else when Americans are freezing and the economy is in the tank. Almost every idea to slow the mythical beast of OwlGore will put dampers on any economic recovery.

I read that earlier. A 90 some year old WWII veteran, and money was sitting in front of him with the power bill, from the CITY OWNED power company. :censored:

I read something interesting last night (don't remember where, hell, it could be a thread here) about "cognitive dissonance". Basically, when a religion has a deeply held belief in a prophecy that states impending doom, and the prophecy fails to prove true, the adherents, rather than reject the religion, state that they counteracted the doom through their actions, and use that to recruit others into the fold.
Anyone else see some similarities?

If he were to hold a conference in Miami, it would probably get snowed out, in July. He is not the total tool Carter is, but he is working his way closer all the time.

Thanks to ManBearPig coming to town it's snowed enought that Reagan National is shut down andschools are closing faster than Circuit City right now.
But on the bright side, we've been released to go home at 1300. :cheersmate:

It stetches all the way from SW of here, so we're on 'Key and essential only' today (which, currently, I'm not); fortunately the precip here is mostly half-melted and refrozen-on-the-way-down snow, which is very dense but doesn't stick to the power lines and trees the way freezing rain does, so no power problems so far. Northern Arkansas is catching Hell though.

The corollary to the idea being floated here, which is the idea that a spate of unusually cold weather disproves global warming, is the idea that a spate of unusually warm weather proves global warming. Neither view is scientific. Global warming is an increase in average surface temperatures. Global warming does not preclude the possibility of unusually cold weather.
I don't duck debates here. I just don't follow all the threads. If ever you feel that I'm conspicuously missing from a debate here feel free to message me at the NU.

And yet the temps have been consistently cooling. How does that fit into your junk science theory?

Well, determining what the temperature has been doing largely depends on the time frame one looks at. For roughly the past 10 years temperature measurements show that Earth has been cooling but the amount cooling is small enough to be within the margin of error. Moreover, 10 year temperature trends are not necessarily indicative of what the long term temperature trend is. Generally, scientists look at a 30 year period to establish a climate baseline.

And yet Algore is going around the world screaming that what we've seen over the last ten years is proof...PROOF that the earth is about to die because of what we've done to it.

I'll take your word for it that Al Gore is doing what you say he's doing but I don't really follow his work on climate change and global warming.

Of course you don't--because most of it is so hypocritical and conflicted that you'd need an expert from LOST, the X-Files, and TWIN PEAKS to help you sort that crap out.

Well, you know, one can be both hypocritical and correct at the same time. Don't you agree?

Sadly, Gore does not fall into this "hypocritcal AND correct" category. The first, he fits quite nicely. The second, he couldn't be more out of it if he tried.

Oh great! The "scientisits" can't predict the weather tomorrow, but they can for the next 30 years. Boy, I know I'm convinced!
I don't understand how you people think global warming is such a bad thing. For cryin' out loud, during the day of T Rex the climate supported dinos the size of 3 city busses. The climate was basically the temp of the Amazon jungle EVERYWHERE, including both arctic poles! Yet you seem to think a few degrees will be the end of the world.
Your logic escapes me!

Weather and climate are not the same thing. Weather is far more unpredictable than climate.

The problem is not climate change per se. The problem is rapid climate change. Ecosystems, many of which sustain our current way of life, are adapted to current climate conditions. If climate changes too rapidly ecosystems may not have enough time to adapt to new conditions and may fail.
Consider...

Yep, that makes a whole lot of sense, don't it. Considering one half of a degree in the last 30 years, and absolutely no change or cooler in the last 10!
