President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation.
The exchange arose as top House and Senate Republicans expressed concern to the president about the amount of spending in the package. They also raised red flags about a refundable tax credit that returns money to those who don’t pay income taxes, the sources said.
The Republicans stressed that they want to include more middle class tax cuts in the package, citing their proposal to cut the two lowest tax rates — 15 percent and 10 percent — to ten percent and five percent, rather than issue the refundable credit Obama wants.
At another point in the meeting, sources said Obama told the group: “This is a grave situation facing the country.†White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama would hold another economic meeting in the White House Saturday for a "broader group."
After Friday's meeting, Democratic and Republican leaders publicly wrangled over the developing stimulus plan.
But perhaps taking a cue from Obama’s “I won†line when Democrats were asked if they were concerned about Republicans blocking the package, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had a swift one-word answer: “No.â€
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the bill was on track for passage by February 16, while Republicans continued to voice their opposition.
“We expressed our concerns about some of the spending that’s being proposed in the House bill,†House Minority Leader John Boehner said after meeting with Obama.
“How can you spend hundreds of millions of dollars on contraceptives?†Boehner asked. “How does that stimulate the economy?â€
Boehner said congressional Republicans are also concerned about the size of the package.
“Government can’t solve this problem,†he said.

Ah, that's how the Rookie is gonna build bi-partisan support. Yeah, he's such a uniter. :whatever:
Sore winner. :bird:
-
humility ain't his thing, obviously. and confidence is a good thing, until it becomes arrogance.
-
Hmmm. it seems the "uniter" is uniting his opposition. I'll bet even the RINOS will vote to block this package.
-
Keep it up Obama... Keep it up. Burn out any good will you may have in the first few months and we'll see how quickly you bomb in the 2012 election.

Posh!
McCain will be right there ensuring Obama's full legislative agenda passes in the name of bipartisanship.
It's really a shame Republicans never had a candidate in this last election.

There is a sore loser and sore winner and Obama is a sore winner.

Great if things turn out bad the Dems will take the blame? :rotf:

The acting president is yet to see his day.
I saw a black girl at Walmart checking out with nothing more than two photo albums of The Great Barry. I rushed over to her, batted my big blue eyes, and told her how much I appreciated her supporting my cousin. I had my half Mexican granddaughter with me at the time. I love to confuse.
-

the big danger is that the economy will turn around on it's own, and obama's (yet to be enacted) agenda will get credit for it. then, it would be tough for soon-to-be-president-elect Sarah Palin to knock him off.

I am amazed at the speed at which the Big Zero has made a disaster out of his administration. It only took a day to be in running for the worst administration of my life time. Jimmy Carter must be happy.

reality is indeed setting in, for both the obama camp, and the MSM.
running for president is very, VERY different than BEING president.

One day in and the Big Zero is making terrorists U.S. citizens.
It could get better, I guess, but I'm baseline budgeting. Based on the first three days, nothing but disaster for the remainder of the first term.

a statistician would say, "insufficient sample size". but who the hell listens to statisticians? :-)

Especially when there is not even a need for statisticians as 98% of all statistics are made up on the spot. :-)
But you know, other than the actual administration, we have the data of the lead up to the coronation.

Agreed. It's the only way I'm gonna make it through the next four years with my sanity intact.
Barkeep; line 'em up if you would please.

In all honesty on him, I'll say the railroading he's getting is bullshit. If the federal prosecuter had anything on him he'd be charged formally.
They don't and made a big stunt of it. After hearing he can't call witnesses and can't dispute the charges I cal BS on the impeachment and removal of him.

"I won"? Yessir, that's an a**backwards way of establishing bi-partisanship.
But, then, we all knew he was lying about being a "new politicain" and one seeking bipartisanship, given his hyper-partisan voting records in Illinois and the U.S. Senate.
Did we know he'd be such a sore winner, though?
A real piece of work he is.

Pretty much I think we knew what a small, petty person the Big Zero is as soon as he was whining about Maureen Dowd making fun of his ears.

There is a sore loser and sore winner and Obama is a sore winner.
Unfortunately, we're all losers as long as he's in the White House.

What an arrogant ****in' jerkoff! For all the hatred the libs had towards Bush.... he NEVER gave them a reason such as this to hate him. Obama is a pompous asshole and a worst than a sore winner at this point. If this is the "unity" and "bipartisanship" he's claiming to work on, then here's my part of "reaching out": Suck it, Mr. PeeResident and :bird:

Obama to GOP: 'I won'
Palin to Obama: I'll be back.

As Americans lose more jobs, inflation hits, double digit interest rates .... I wonder how long smarmy comments like that will resonate with people. Will they still be so stupid as to believe Obama is anything more than an empty suit? I guess time will tell.
The conservatives better kick it in the ass and soon, then need to give the RINOS the boot and take back the GOP or form a third party. I prefer the former option. They have an uphill battle so get moving.
rant off!

I couldn't agree more. My biggest fear is how our republican members of congress are going to handle things like this stimulus package etc. NOW is the time that we really need strong base leaders who can stick to the facts and dissent on policy and not get into the fray with him. His tactics are all about the fray. People WILL listen if they see and can TRUST the republican congress members do what needs to be done. There needs to be a CLEAR and CALM effort to us that they CAN be bipartisan but NOT allow him to bully his way around Capitol hill.
My fear isn't in not trusting Obama. My fear is that I don't trust the republicans to do what they need to do to save our country from the destructive force of the progressive movement going on within the democratic party.

The worse it gets...the more the snide comments...scare tactic rhetoric and attacks on conservative icons will increase.
He will have to keep the "base" whipped into a wild eyed frenzy to mask the fact that every left wing "idea" he's trying to implement on this country is failing and actually making things worse.

My fear exactly. And really, they have lost a lot a ton of credibility by casting even one vote for the bailout. They should have dug in and resisted. Now, they're trying to back peddle and introduce legislation to not release the 2nd half. Hey.... you guys messed up. You put your political careers in front of the country and a lot of you either lost your jobs or your credibility.
The other thing I'm sick of are the Bob Dole candidates they produce because they don't want to put a strong candidate against someone they perceive as unbeatable. That is nothing against old candidates, I LOVED Reagan....
rant off again!

I LOVED Reagan....
He's dead. I won! /Obama

It's okay. I know. It's best we see humor in these times otherwise some of us might go koo koo bananas.
By the way, speaking of, I haven't had a chance to watch any late night television since the Immaculate Inauguration. Has Conan, Jay, Letterman, et all made fun of Hussein in the least bit or have they just spent their monologues sucking up?
-

I can see him saying something that crass.
-
I can see him saying something that crass.
Well he's already gone after Ron and Nancy in the primaries.
I fully expect him to try and tear down Reagan and thus our beliefs in how this country should be run over the next four years.
If I let my imagination go free...I can see a lot of things he'd do to try and erase the memories of great conservative leaders from the minds of red state Americans.

That I couldn't say. I know that Leno showed the Jon Stewart clip on his show. But This girl has to get her beauty rest so she usually is peacefully sleeping by 10:30. :-)

AMEN!!! I totally agree with this and can't for the life of me understand why we have to go down in flames because some people are too f*cking ingorant to read a damn history book.

Palin to Obama: I'll be back.
Obama and the coaltion of Democrats, liberals and leftists who installed him in the White House: "Can't speak now. Must clean the mess out of our shorts and panties. This woman frightens us."
The advocacy/adversary media: "We'd better send another few thousand reporters to Alaska and dig more dirt on her. Or, we can just make it up."

Jay Leno said the other night that since GWB was no longer president, there would be no monolouge tonight. :-)

Now do you understand why we went out and stocked up on guns and ammo after you won the election?
