Title: Frozen Thursday
Post by: Chris_ on January 15, 2009, 07:08:58 AM
It's 15 degrees.  It's snowing.  The wind chill is down to below zero.

 :censored: winter.

That is all.

-10 and feels like -30 this morning.  It's supposed to be bright and sunny AND COLD today, and clear tonight which will make it colder.  :censored: Al Gore promised us global warming, well, I want it and I want it now.

Algore's in his mansion down the road from here...burning his carbon credits to keep warm.   :whatever:

We're still working on the VRWC weather control satellite...hoping to get it ready for the 3 feet of snow scheduled for DC next Tuesday.   :innocent:

0 this morning.  They revised tomorrow's forecast.  Instead of -5 Friday morning, they're callling for -12, which means my house will be at least -15.  Add the wind, and -35 wind chill is not out of the question.

And when it's that cold, kids, I don't care HOW good your humidifier works.  Right now the humidity in the house is in the single digits.

Cold as piss outside.  First thing in the morning, I get to have needles shoved into my gums.  This is turning out to be a wonderful day.  *sighs*

Cold Cold Cold outside.

School was cancelled.  :whatever:

Still have to take my daughter over to the High School to the attached library so she can finish an assignment.  Origianl plan, she was going to stay after exams, and just ride the bus home, but since school was cancelled.... :banghead:.

On a good note, Mr Flame built a wall last night.  Our basement is finally going to get finished.  Looks pretty darn cool, too!

I rather like this weather. Little to no breeze with the sun shining it's not cold at all. Must still have some yankee blood in my system  :-)

About the same here in Central IL... windchill of -30... yay! Makes me wanna go outside, get a tan, work out in the yard, and take the wife and kids to the park.  :whatever:

I'm hoping they'll close work today, but I highly doubt it.

IMO, wind chill really means nothing to me. OAT (Outside Air Temp) does. Wind chill only affects exposed parts of the body. In other words, dress for the weather.

30 to 40 below here today. Depends on how the wind is blowing.

I feel like Shackleford here in the mancave. :p

Kids are home.  I thought they canceled school on extremely cold days due to studant health concerns.  Turns out it's actually because at ridiculously low freeze your balls off temps the deisel fuel in the buses will gel. Live n' learn.

Me too, and I was bitching b/c it was mid-thirties when I was driving to school this morning.

I haven't been feeling well the last few days.  Today I feel much better, but I think tomorrow I'll be back up to 100%.  On top of that, there's been stupid drama at work and with school projects.  *sigh* /whining

I'm ready for the weekend.  :)

Home from work finally.  Took advantage of a lovely sale at the store I work at, and bought 5 2 L sodas for about 3.50.  I highly recommend the Pomegranate-flavored 7-Up.  It's limited-time, so get it while you can.  Normally, I HATE 7-Up, but the pomegranate makes it a tasty tart beverage.

My boss (the assistant customer service manager) pissed me off today. I'd specifically informed him that I could work Monday, since I had no class that day (MLK day).  He ended up forgetting to add that to the schedule, though he said he would let me work that day.  I about ripped into him, but a co-worker, as it turns out, wanted that day off, so we traded.  I'm still mad at the boss though, and he knows it.  :hammer: Some other drama occurred on one of my days off earlier this week.

Apparently, a TRANNY came into the store to shop, and one of the male co-workers made a sly comment to one of the other cashiers about the "freak-show" (his words, not mine).  Unfortunately, he wasn't sly enough, because another customer heard it, and let the "victim" know about it.  Management took the co-worker into the office, and he's now suspended for a week.

Then today, we had someone attempt to shoplift and got arrested.

This town is insane.   :mental:

And they canceled school for tomorrow...

The kids just about drove me up the wall today.  Luckily the older pre menstral one with boy issues is sleeping over at a friends house tonight so I won't have to listen to her sighing all day tomorrow. :P

it's just been a crappy day here.

They cancelled school here tomorrow, too.  I finally had to break out the long johns to go outside.  I'm glad I did.

Ham and split pea soup cooking for dinner.  Tomorrow is beef stew.

That last sounds good.  I may make ox tail soup tomorrow. I have some marrow bones kicking around the freezer as well... Hmmm.

Couple days back I helped a guy repair part of a redwood privacy fence. Was a lil chill in the air but overall not bad. He started razing me because I put on a pair of light gloves. I asked him if he has ever experienced frost bite before because I have and it ain't no bowl of Roses. I can walk/work outside in cold/cool temps without a cap or jacket but if my hands start to feel cold at all I whipout the gloves.

Something about a Dr. Telling a 14 yr old boy that if the feeling & color don't return to the fingers in about a week we may as well go ahead & amputate them cause they are dead & going to rot anyway. Kind gives ya an appreciation for your didgits.

I'm not sure if I'm doing this soup right.  Is it supposed to smell like ass?  It sure doesn't smell tasty.  I don't normally cook with split peas.  Here's my recipe:

1 pound, green split peas
1 1/2 cups/one can of vegetable or chicken broth
5 cups of water
one carrot and onion, diced and cooked

And I threw in a large slice of ham, cut up into cubes.

 I think it's the ham.  My recipe says to cook it for and hour and a half.  It's only been ten minutes.

It ain't done until it turn the color of baby shit green. Then add just a smidgen of corn starch for consistency and you should be good to go.  :evillaugh:

Something tells me those words are the true meaning of split pea soup....( :puke: )

Haven't heard if they are cancelling school here tomorrow...but this is usually a 4-day weekend.

But it's coooolllldddddddddd out there!

You must be SR's eeeevil twin. He does that too. It drives me crazy; I'm shivering and moaning about the cold and he moves from Florida and makes footprints (with his bare feet) in the snow when he runs out to get the paper. Good thing I have a short driveway--and that so far the snow hasn't been deep at all, almost non-existent.  :-)

Chill is to be -5 to -15 by morning.

All the schools around our county are closed except for ours......but "absences will be excused".
I'm thinking the only kids that will be in school tomorrow will be the kids whose parents work and they can't get babysitters.
I know if I was a kid in school and my mom would let me stay home, there's no way I'd be sticking my nose out from under the covers. :uhsure:

My soup was a little salty from the country ham.  Not enough to make it inedible, but it did add some flavor.  I don't normally add salt to my food; it was a nice change.

I forgot the ground beef for my chili.  I'll have to go back to the store tomorrow.
