Gotta go out to pick up my daughter from school (She can leave early if she has a ride, due to exams), and then tonight I take her to dance and stay for a parent meeting.

Currently 11 with -8 windchill, and gusts up to 38 mph.

Long johns for the rest of the week. Yay.
-
Frank...I talked to my son last night and he said they didn't have any snow, and it was about 40....just far enough away from you that they aren't getting the same weather as you, I guess. You and the kitter-cats just need to stay inside until this gets over with.
Sun is out here.....looks lovely out :-)....and warming up!!! We're up to 26.
Doing reports and have to show houses this evening....brrrrrrrrrrr.
-

Yeah, I looked at the whole-state weather map of Nebraska.
Down there, it's practically Miami Beach.
Admittedly, though, there's been times the situation's been reversed.
-
Here in Minne-so-cold (where International Falls got down to -42 yesterday) we call this "definite sweater weather."
-
It's a GIRL! My sis is going to have a little GIRL!. They went to the doctor very early this morning for the ultrasound to find out. I'll have a little niece (hopefully a redhead) to spoil now with cute baby dresses and such. :hyper: :-)
The sun may be out, but that's not enough to keep this town warm. It's not really bad temperature-wise, IMO, but when you still have a lingering cold/sinus infection, its not a good thing. :( I woke up this morning and my phone rang, when I tried to answer it, guess what? My voice is almost all gone. I was able to speak long enough to my mom who called to tell me the news. Time for Robitussin.

31 degrees when I got up this morning with one of the heaviest frosts so far this winter. (Eastern coastal area of NC). Currently at 11:34am, the thermometer has yet to reach 40 degrees. Supposed to be down in the teens tomorrow night. That is freaking cold for our area!
-
We're going to hit a toasty high of 44° today. And I won't be doing much, so I might wander outside for a bit.

I used to have a dairy farm in Little Fork......50 miles from frost bite falls...brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

Well, Charlie (the nephew) already knows who his favorite football team is...we got him early with that LSU babystroller and all of the LSU baby clothes and such. :evillaugh: If we get there early enough, there won't be any tomboy phase. :p (then again, both my sis and I were semi-tomboys... played sports, but still liked to dress up).
-
that LSU babystroller

-
:rotf: :innocent:
That was a present courtesy of me. :uhsure: That thing is extremely sturdy, despite its low price. When a friend has her baby, I'll suck it up and buy the UGA stroller for her as a late baby shower gift (I couldn't go, but I told her I was still working on the present). :p

A WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 12 PM CST FRIDAY.
AN ARCTIC HIGH WILL PUSH INTO THE DAKOTAS TONIGHT...SENDING VERY COLD AIR SOUTH INTO THE GREAT LAKES. THIS COLD AIR WILL REMAIN IN PLACE FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. AIR TEMPERATURES EXPECTED TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT ARE THE COLDEST OBSERVED OVER SOUTHERN WISCONSIN IN 13 YEARS.
LOW TEMPERATURES TONIGHT ARE EXPECTED TO DROP INTO THE LOW 20S BELOW ZERO OVER MUCH OF SOUTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN... AROUND 18 BELOW OVER SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN...AND AROUND 13 BELOW NEAR THE LAKE. GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS BETWEEN 10 TO 20 MPH WILL PRODUCE DANGEROUS WIND CHILL VALUES OF 35 TO 45 BELOW.
HIGH TEMPERATURES ON THURSDAY WILL STRUGGLE TO EVEN REACH 5 BELOW... DESPITE SUNSHINE. CONTINUED GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILL VALUES AROUND 30 BELOW THROUGHOUT MUCH OF THE DAY.
HIGH PRESSURE WILL SINK SOUTH INTO MISSOURI FOR THURSDAY NIGHT. CLEAR SKIES AND LIGHTER WINDS WILL ALLOW TEMPERATURES TO PLUMMET INTO THE 20S BELOW MOST PLACES...EXCEPT TEENS BELOW NEAR THE LAKE. SOME LOCATIONS IN THE WISCONSIN RIVER VALLEY MAY REACH 30 BELOW. WIND CHILLS WILL AGAIN RANGE FROM 35 BELOW TO 45 BELOW.
AIR TEMPERATURES WILL FINALLY RISE ABOVE ZERO LATE FRIDAY MORNING AS WARMER AIR SURGES NORTH...ENDING THE DANGEROUS COLD WAVE.
A WIND CHILL WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR TEMPERATURES AND WIND WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES OF 35 DEGREES BELOW ZERO OR COLDER FOR 3 HOURS OR LONGER.
THESE CONDITIONS WILL RESULT IN FROSTBITE...AND COULD LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH...IF PROPER PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...WEAR SEVERAL LAYERS OF CLOTHING AND COVER ALL EXPOSED SKIN. FROSTBITE CAN OCCUR IN AS LITTLE AS 10 MINUTES. IF CLOTHES BECOME WET... THEY SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE CHANGED FOR DRY ONES.
Oh Frabjuous Day!
SERIOUSLY dangerous weather. Gorram global warming. :-)
-
Today wouldn't be so bad if not for the wind. I just shoveled the 5 inches of snow we got from the driveway, and except for that wind ripping, it's not so bad. Tomorrow is gonna be a bitch though, it's supposed to be a high of ... heh, 1 degree!
-
Not a good day in the office. They just let 10 people go. Looks like I'm safe for now. More later.
-
Weather paterns are returning to what I remember from the '50's and '60's. There was a swell BLIZZARD when I was in the field in March 1967 at Ft. Dix. We were in squad tents with diesel barrel heaters. I awoke to find that the top of the heater and the exhaust pipe was RED hot . My canteen was hanging less than 2 feet from the red hot pipe. I thought "Oh, well, hot water ...I'll manage." The canteen was 20% water, 80% ice. Back then, they were aluminum, and after only a half hour sitting on the heater, the water was completely melted, but still quite cold....
The mess truck showed up for an 0600 breakfast at 1200, the 1200 mid day truck showed up as 1800, and evening truck never showed at all. Drifts were up to 6" ft and more, training came to a halt and we were in "survival" mode, hypothermia was not a "household word" then, and we were simply told to try and stay warm, and not freeze to death. It sure screwed up our scheduled trips to the range, which had to be made up later.
You know, I think I like Global Warming better....much better.

I hope you can get a permanent stay of execution. :p

Found out my friend's daughter...the engineer for SeaRay is safe.....at least for now. But my friend said that UT announced today they are laying off 700...(she's a graphic designer for the dept of Sociology).
ImagePoint ...a company that makes the big signs for car dealerships, MickeyD's arches, and lots of other signs for companies...shut their doors permanently on Monday. No notice, warning, nada... Their headquarters are here, and their factory had been consolidated from here to Florence KY.
-
Bredesen says the State will be laying off 2,000 people. Maybe if that jackass hadn't wasted all of our money on his $12 million Governor's mansion and his
free babysitting service Pre-K program, we might still have some of the $500 million surplus we had in 2006.

We are going to have temps tomorrow of -10 and I have no idea of the wind chill but I'm betting -20 to -30 isn't impossible
-
OH-ficial.
They canceled school for tomorrow. Wind chill values are expected to be in the 30-40 below range. 17 below right now and it's just starting.
Time to haul in the brass monkeys.
-
Holy crap. Do you have block heaters for your cars?
Projected low here is 17°. At least I don't have to be anywhere tomorrow. :whatever:

I have a (albeit unheated) 2 car attached garage. Which I am sitting in right now wearing a coat and thin gloves with a space heater running next to me. Being a smoker in the 21st century sucks. :(
It doesn't get below freezing in here usually. Usually.
-
I have some nice space heaters. They do a good job of heating up an enclosed area, and they're pretty cheap to buy.
-
Shit. They've revised Thursday's forecast to 0°. Friday's low is 11°.
-
Beef soup and cous cous for dinner :p
-
I've read all the whining and moaning, but y'all have missed the important news. It suppose to be only 30 at MY house tomorrow. That's like having tuna fish sandwich day in Heaven. It ain't suppose to happen.

Um, the Governor was mis-quoted. I have inside info, but can't say more. The money spent on the mansion was primarily from donations, not tax dollars. The pre-K funds come from the lottery, but yes, they would be much better spent on college students, and not those on the margin. Our biggest problem is they {state congress critters) project the income to go up every year, so they spend in anticipation of that. Since the state income is mostly sales tax driven, we went in the tank this year. They spent it before they had it. Yeah, imagine that...from a dim state government since the 1800's. :whatever:
-
Um, the Governor was mis-quoted. I have inside info, but can't say more.
Well, wherever you're getting your information from, its still better than what the Tennessean is reporting. As much as I dislike government spending and taxation, 2,000 people hitting the unemployment lines overnight would be disastrous for our state.

We have had 180 people. That's VERY large for this business. Our average tenure is 17 years. The industry average tenure is 3 years. They've fired a people in the past, but have never had a real lay-off for lack of business. Only one of the 10 let go was a recent hire. 3 of them had 10+ years.
It was kind of like driving down the highway doing the speed limit when you see a police officer. You slow down and watch the rearview mirror even though you've done nothing wrong. Everybody's nervous wondering who's next. The real puzzle is that we're slammed right now. Several large projects are due to be completed in the next month and then we will have a slow-down if nothing new comes up. Why they chose to do this now is a real mystery. :mental:

You got that right. I doubt the legislature would let that happen anyway. There are other options in the works, but none of them are good ones.

I think that's in some management manual somewhere...."If you're going down in flames, take as many people as you can with you."
Out of 170 remaining employees, exactly zero have any formal management training. The company is 45+ years old, and we've survived because we're good at what we do, but we couldn't manage (internally) our way through wet toilet paper.

That's a shame. My mom's husband took a company on the verge of bankruptcy to ringing the bell on Wall Street with an IPO in five years. But they offer a good product, and the man knows his business.

WHERE'S MY GLOBAL WARMING? IT'S FREEZING HERE.
-
WHERE'S MY GLOBAL WARMING? IT'S FREEZING HERE.
It's 31 and falling here. It will probably be zero outside house of lug-nut in the morning. This is very unusual for us. On the bright side, it's going to be the kind of freeze that kills bugs...ticks, skeeters, chiggers, etc. so maybe this Spring it won't be as bad as usual.
-
Guess I'll turn in for the night. Not that I have any plans for tomorrow. I might crank out some beef or split pea soup, given the weather.
-
Dang. :(
They've announced a "State of the Firm Address" company-wide meeting for tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will have some idea of what is going on, though it probably won't be good news.
