The Israelis stood up and did something--and did it without sinking the ship.
Israel stops Iranian aid ship heading to Gaza

TEHRAN, Iran – The Israeli navy has intercepted an Iranian ship loaded with medicine, food and clothing destined for Gaza and forced the vessel to head toward an Egyptian port, Iran's state television reported Wednesday.
Separately, Iran's top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a religious opinion, or fatwa, declaring the purchase of any Israeli goods or trade with Israeli companies to be forbidden.
Ahmad Navabi, head of the humanitarian aid group sponsoring the ship, said in comments aired on television Wednesday that the Israel navy approached the cargo ship, Shahed, just 20 miles (30 kilometers) off the coast of Gaza at dawn Wednesday, and ordered it to turn back.
"An Israeli warship approached our cargo ship and warned us not to approach Gaza. We could see the lights at Gaza coast. We were forced to change route toward an Egyptian port," Navabi said.
The ship was carrying 2,000 tons of medicine, food and clothing to Palestinians living in Gaza.
The Israelis didn't board the ship, so I wonder how many tons of ammo and weapons it was carrying . . . Probably a substantial amount.

One way to find out ... and give their gunners some practice.
Win-Win.

It's always "medicine, food and clothing" isn't it? Can't they come up with a more creative cover story? :whatever:

Not that I'd trust the Iranians any farther than I could throw them, but I'm sure there are numerous entirely legitimate charitable relief efforts going on in the Islamic world. But, even if it was straight up which is an unknown, the problem is that even if the relief supplies got into the Gaza strip, the gangsters would just commandeer them anyway. The Israelis certainly would have been within bounds to board and inspect, it ought to be impossible (for a sane person) to quibble with what they did here.

I have no dout the whole thing was a ploy. They had to have known the Israeli navy would intercept the ship. I bet they're pissed off Israel didn't fire on the ship. They wanted something to cry about. And the UN will eat it up.

Give Saddam credit--the "Baby Milk Factory" bit was at least original, if not pathetically laughable...

I agree that shooting at the ship would have given all the Jew Haters a reason to cry on the TV News. Might as well Stop that before they start it.

I'm surprised Iran didn't plant explosives and scuttle the ship in front of the Israeli navy. They way they could have blamed Israel for sinking a peaceful ship.
