Actor MICKEY ROURKE sympathises with U.S. President GEORGE W. BUSH - insisting he doesn't know how any politician could have successfully navigated America after the 9/11 attacks on New York.
The Hollywood tough-guy spoke out about his political views in a candid interview with Britain's GQ magazine, and admits he doesn't understand why so many people blame Bush for a string of world issues - including Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism in the West.
And the actor, who claims he didn't follow last year's (08) historic U.S. election battle between Barack Obama and John McCain, urges the public to consider the tremendous pressure the controversial president was under following the terror attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001.
He tells the publication, "President Bush was in the wrong place at the wrong time, I don't know how anyone could have handled this situation. ---MORE--- (http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/79536/Rourke-Bush-was-in-the-wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time)

And just think of how ****ed we'd have been, lo these past 8 years, if we'd have compounded the problem by having the WRONG GUY (Teh Goracle) in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Spot on Mickey.
He strikes me as the type of guy who also doesn't give a rip about Hollywood (see his career) and I'm glad to see him stand up and speak so bluntly. Here's hoping more chime in.

I don't really care what any actor/singer/entertainer believes, regardless of if I agree with them or not.

I generally don't care either. But it's nice to see the ones who go against the Hollywood liberal mindset/bash Bush speak out. I'm more impressed by that than I am by the ones who parrot leftist talkings points because its the in thing to do. And that's generally most of them. Stick a microphone in front of most celebs and they spout off liberal talkings points and esp. since the election, they sound like Obamabots.

Of course, if Gore had been president, and he had retaliated, it would have been the RIGHT thing to do...but since Bush is a REthuglican.....
And Mickey, you look horrible. What happened to the sexy guy in 9 1/2 Weeks?

Give him a break. That was 25 years ago. :lmao:
'Barfly' is a weird movie.
-
Okay, 9 1/2 weeks and Barfly were out there, but you got to admit that he was damned good in Sin City and Year of the Dragon.

A mediocre boxing career.

Actually, I could not imagine Mickey and I agreeing on anything, yet here it is. His early movies were, indeed, strange. Angle Heart was pretty wierd, don't you think? Lisa Bonet looked excelent in it, tho...

Did that movie get her kicked off the Cosby Show?
-
I believe it did. But you sure could tell she wasn't a little girl anymore....

The Pope of Greenwich Village was EXCELLENT as was Year of the Dragon.
I agree with an earlier post regarding the opinions of "celebrities". I could care less.
I believe it was Billy Joel when asked about his opinion of the past election he said "Why would anyone care to hear my opinion" or something like that.
All that being said, YES, it is definitely refreshing to hear ANYONE defend Bush while abroad. Most of these idiots (Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Oliver Stone) bash their home country and Bush EVERY CHANCE THEY GET.
I'm surprised the magazine interviewer didn't try to goad Rourke into saying something negative about Bush. And I'm sure the guy was taken aback by Rourke pointing out how the UK sings Kumbaya with these Islamic nutjobs.

I like what he said, but he needs a haircut.
-
He's spot on. He did a great job in Sin City.
He also looks like shit. :-)
