Title: Obama mother-in-law to join family in White House
Post by: Wretched Excess on January 09, 2009, 05:45:21 PM
I read immediately after the election that MIL would be in the white house permanently
to take care of the girls.  ok, without being accused of attacking innocent family members,
can you imagine the hoots and howls coming from the dems and the MSM is laura bush had
done this?

Obama mother-in-law to join family in White House

WASHINGTON (AP) — Get ready for the in-law in chief.

Transition officials said Friday that President-elect Barack Obama's mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, is moving into the White House to join Michelle Obama and their two children.

It's not clear whether the move will be permanent.

Katie McCormick Lelyveld, the press secretary for Michelle Obama, said Robinson would decide in coming months whether she wants to stay in Washington.

Robinson retired from her job as a bank executive secretary to help with her granddaughters during the campaign.

Oh my.

Actually, relatives living in the White House don't have a happy history.

being ashamed of her country, I assume.  you would be surprised how much time that takes if you really want to do it right.

I guess.

I remember the DUmmies were all up in arms when Sarah Palin was campaigning. "But whose watching the children? Why is she such a bad mother?" They cared about the kids only when they weren't accusing them of being white trash.

I'm guessing they won't have a problem with Michelle being absent from her kids' lives. It's okay if you're a Democratic family.

WASHINGTON – Get ready for the in-law in chief. President-elect Barack Obama's mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, is moving into the White House at least temporarily to join Michelle Obama and the two children, transition officials said Friday. That's good news not just for late-night comics, but for 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha. During the campaign, Robinson retired from her job as a bank executive secretary to help care for her granddaughters.

"Mrs. Robinson will be coming with the family to help the girls get acclimated, and she will determine in the coming months whether or not she wants to stay in D.C. permanently," said Katie McCormick Lelyveld, spokeswoman for Michelle Obama.

Barack Obama has called her one of the unsung heroes of his campaign, and spoke of holding her hand on election night.

But when asked by "60 Minutes" if Robinson would move in, he quipped: "Well, I don't tell my mother-in-law what to do. But I'm not stupid. That's why I got elected president, man."

There are a couple examples from one of the articles.

Quote
Harry S. Truman's mother-in-law, Madge Gates Wallace, lived there, too, and was critical of her son-in-law.

"She never liked him. She always felt that Bess had married below her station," said Myra Gutin, a first lady historian and professor at Ryder University in New Jersey.

"For his part, he was gracious. Whatever Mother Wallace wanted, she pretty much got."

Mamie Eisenhower's mother also had extended stays, but like her daughter she tended to sleep until noon, said Maria Downs of the White House Historical Association.

Even the presidents' mothers can be tough. Lillian Carter stayed in the White House and got on well with her son Jimmy, but Gutin said that when he first told her, "Mom, I'm going to run for president," she replied, "President of what?"

Jimmy should have listened to his mama.  :lmao:

There was Sam Houston Johnson, the younger brother of Lyndon.

He was quite the drinker, a real souser.

And one of Richard Nixon's younger brothers, who apparently made Howard Hughes look at least semi-sane.

All of the worthless, and much-divorced, children of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt sought refuge there, although Franklin's domineering mother preferred to stay at Hyde Park in New York, thus alleviating any pressure on Eleanor.

Isn't that the way the socialist have engineered it? Grandma gets a gummint check to raise the grandkids while mom and dad enjoy the good life sans responsibilities.

Don't forget the king of all White House embarrassments, Billy Carter.

...that's because dims prefer to have their children programmed raised by a village.....that is, the ones they don't kill before they're born.
