NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta will likely be nominated the nation's new Surgeon General in the Obama administration.

Gupta has been offered but apparently not accepted the position, which would be prestigious as the nation's top health educator. But it would also be a substantial step down from the money he makes as a practicing neurosurgeon in Atlanta and as a journalist for CNN and CBS.

Gupta's possible nomination as surgeon general had been bubbling under the radar since Obama's early November election, and upon learning about it he told top executives from CBS and CNN. There were no conflict of interest rules, CNN said Tuesday.

Flashback: Gupta Raises McCain's 'Substance Abuse,' Scolds Reagan on AIDS

CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, whom President-elect Barack Obama has reportedly asked to take an administration post as Surgeon General and top health policy adviser, last year thought it noteworthy that the release of John McCain's medical records ignored the Senator's “mental health,” any “mention of post-traumatic stress disorder” or of “substance abuse.” Back in 2004, upon Ronald Reagan's passing, Gupta took to CNN to give legitimacy to claims of how throughout his presidency “many would accuse President Reagan of ignoring AIDS.” Gupta falsely charged that “the first time President Reagan would utter the word AIDS in public would be well into his second term, six years after the virus was discovered.”

Another politician thinly disguised as a doctor and even more thinly disguised as a journalist.  :whatever:

This is the only really good thing I can say about the guy:

Quote
On the positive side, virtually everyone loves Sanjay Gupta. Dr. Stud. Come on folks .. this guy is covering the war against Islamic terrorism in Iraq for CNN when suddenly he dons the scrubs and is performing surgery on an injured soldier?

The rest of the MSM raked him over the coals for that...something about "losing his objectivity".

Perhaps he takes his Hippocratic Oath more seriously than the medical practitioners who routinely perform abortions. Okay, so Gupta gets a thumbs up for practicing medicine, especially on a wounded Soldier.

The cynic in me is asking a few questions, however. Did Gupta go to "cover the war against Islamic terrorism" or did he go to press the flesh and find himself in a photo op situation? Or did he go specifically to practice medicine?

Gupta is a medical doctor, a neurosurgeon. But along with the scrubs he fancies himself as a "journalist" who "reports" medical information to his doting audience. I suppose there is room for that sort of thing in this world. But he's lost any sense of objectivity when he spouts off his opinion on social issues and the policies by policy-makers directed toward those issues. He certainly didn't lose objectivity when he treated a wounded Soldier - that's just more moonbat-speak.

But I somehow have a problem with a professional who gets too involved in other professionals - sorta like a tire store that does a helluva job selling tires, mounting and balancing them; but utterly fails when it's time to do shocks, struts, brakes, and front end linkage.

Gupta hasn't accepted His Holiness' offer and the corresponding salary reduction yet. Maybe he'll find his practice and his doting audience just too big to suddenly become yet another official Obama-worshiper.

My guess is that he won't pass the media scrutiny into his background to reach an actual appointment.

Didn't he "rise to fame" after his appearance on Survivor?

Is he qualified to be the Surgeon General? Obama should pick someone with a background in the public health field, not just a doctor/journalist.

After all, Obama chose highly experienced and qualified people to head up the State Department and the CIA. Oh, wait a minute....

Supposedly, Michael Moore is dead set against Gupta.  Something about a feud that developed when Moore was shooting "Sicko."  That right there raises Gupta in my book.  It's in this link:

Well, even DUers bash the hell out of each other. Michael Moron is in bed with Conyers who is every bit the SiCKO bastard that Moron is.

According to the article, Gupta is against the Canadian brokedick health care system. I'll believe that when Gupta actually says it AFTER The Exalted One appoints Gupta as Chief Cutter and he's confirmed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanjay_Gupta   Looks like he became famous after being imbedded with the troops in Iraq.
