Title: 9-Year-Old Boy Hero in Pit Bull Attack

Quote
January 5th, Bakersfield, CA - A 9-year-old Bakersfield boy is getting a lot of attention after saving a girl from a vicious pit bull.

Drew Heredia and his female friend were walking the girl's small dog when the pit bull attacked it. The girl tried to intervene but then the pit bull turned the attack on her.

Heredia didn't run away but instead he jumped on the pit bull and applied a choke hold that he learned at a local Brazilian jiu-jitsu studio.

Heredia held the dog in the chokehold until an animal control officer arrived.

The girl was taken to the hospital with numerous puncture wounds. She and her dog are expected to recover.

I just saw a chart (trying to find it) that shows dog bites from Pit Bulls last year (or the year before) being 4X the nearest dog -- 400 to 100.

It is the breed -- it can be overcome, but bot through just love and patience.  Bit Bull owners need professional dog trainers to keep them under control.

And, like it or not, getting a Pit Bull means you will lose in any and all dog bite cases, even if you are in the "right."

Why take the chance with your family and your wealth?

Exactly.   :(

My daughter had a pit, one that had been abused.  She basically rescued him from his first owner when he was about 4 months old.  She worked a lot with him, had a couple friends (but no professionals) helping her.  We thought it was going to work, especially after we had him neutered.

It didn't.

There were 2 different incidents where he snapped at my youngest, so we were very careful to always have a "boss" around when he was out, and never let him out with any grandkids.  But eventually he got in with our old, male Scottie and did his best to turn the old guy into hamburger.

We ended up having him put down.  It was terrible for everyone.

Don't get one.  Most especially, unless you are a pro, don't rescue one.  They'll break your heart.

I would wonder if I have met your ex, except that I know Mr Smith's ex has to be a different person. (same personality, I think.)   :-)

I would haphazardly guess, that the majority of purchasers of Pit Bulls... are not concerned with asset protection.
