Title: FASTEST LIVING GUITAR PLAYER
Post by: RobJohnson on January 06, 2009, 04:34:04 AM
Quote
By judging one-second electronic clips of guitarists from around the world, the magazine recognized Carter as the fastest living player by being able to rip off 17 notes per second.

And I don't care who you are -- that's fast.

The fastest guitarist ever played 18 notes per second.

Carter felt the compulsion to play the guitar at a very early age but, because of a lack of parental support and an unstable home life, his opportunity didn't come knocking until some time later.

At 13, Carter was placed in an orphanage, and it would be there that he finally laid his hands on his first guitar -- not unlike the world's greatest jazz musician, Louis Armstrong, who learned to play the cornet in a home for boys.

Carter, who was too poor to afford lessons, learned to play by watching and listening to accomplished guitarists on TV, mimicking their hand and finger movements.

Notice he plays Ibanez guitars.  Ibanez guitars have the "Wizard" or "Wizard II" necks them, they are specifically designed to be played very, very fast.  They are very popular with the metal head set.  Also, the real speed demon guitar players like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani play Ibanez guitars.

I have one, but I only play one song with it... "Low" by Cracker.  And only because my Ibanez has a whammy bar.

I expect you to break his record by the end of the year.  :fuelfire:

To me, that kind of guitar playing sounds like crap.
I can't stand to listen to Satriani or Vai, or Malmsteen.  18 notes a second is just a lot of noise.

I much prefer the more carefully played, slower and expressive styles of Clapton, Gilmore, Ronson and Kossoff.

I agree with that.

The fast playing amazes me, yet it's not always a joy to my ears. Some of it is good, most of it is not.

Eric Mongrain also comes to mind.
