LOS ANGELES, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Jett Travolta, the 16-year-old son of Hollywood film star John Travolta, died Friday in the Bahamas, Rand Memorial Hospital told TMZ.
The teen reportedly was vacationing with his parents -- Travolta and actress Kelly Preston -- when he died.
The circumstances of his death were not immediately made public, TMZ said.
Prayers for the family.

Isn't John the one who got busted on national TV for the things he was saying about his daughter?
True shame about his son. Having one now, thats not something I'd ever wish on anyone.

If we're thinking of the same incident, that was Alec Baldwin, charming shithead that he is.
Prayers headed to sky-six for Vinnie Babarino and his family. His son is home, safe in the arms of his Savior by now.

Ahhh yes! I got my celebrities totally mixed up. Here I was thinking Travolta is a scum bag when I actually like him.

Prayers for the family. :(
There had been several reports about Jett in the past couple of years. The reports were saying that he had autism and the Travolta's wouldn't get him special help because of their scientology beliefs. They kept him out of the spotlight because of this. Who knows.

Prayers for his family.

I jut read he was taking a bath and hit his head. His 1:1 aide was with him at the time. Police are investigating.
I heard the same thing about the autism, which breaks my heart.

Sad news for any family.

Reuters reports it as a seizure. Apparently the son had a history of seizures. Dunno if Scientology forbade the Use of ant seizure meds or not.

That's what I saw on Fox. :(
Scientology prohibits all psychiatric medications, and I'm pretty sure anti-seizure medications are included as well, from some older articles I see on the subject.

Years ago the family said he had Kawaski's disease but many believe he was autistic. Scientology forbids treatment for many things and I would hate to think that had anything to do with it.
Prayers for the family. I cannot imagine their pain right now.
-
Awful to lose a child of that age for any reason, deepest sympathy to the family.
-
What a terrible tragedy.... my condolences to the Travoltas.
-
How horrible....from everything I've ever heard about him...he and his family are quite close knit.
I cannot imagine that kind of pain.
Prayers for the family.

Both shocking and sad.

I heard the same thing about the autism, which breaks my heart.
Travolta has either pretended there is nothing wrong with Jett, 15, or claimed his condition is Kawasaki syndrome, a disease characterized by high fever, skin rash and swelling of the lymph nodes.
But parents of autistic children say that Travolta should join Sylvester Stallone, Doug Flutie, Jenny McCarthy and Toni Braxton, who all have autistic kids, in raising awareness and research funds to cure the disease.
One magazine editor who has interviewed Travolta more than once says that the star's son is disabled - and yet he continues to behave as if nothing is wrong.
"Travolta sits there in interviews talking about how Jett loves to read or play sports, but it is clear that the boy can barely do either," the editor said.
<snip>
According to the Church of Scientology, people with mental illnesses are "degraded" and capable of curing themselves by working harder on the church's teachings.

As the kid had VERY high fevers as a child, it is entirely possible that the brain was damaged by the fevers, leaving him with a "short" with resultant seizures. These things happen, as sad as it is.
-
Very sad to hear. But I'm wondering if maybe the whole thing with Jett being autistic, the "church" of Scientology forbidding any psychiatric medication, maybe Travolta will change his mind about his "religion". That's just what I think of it.
-
He has that damaged look didn't he? Sure seems to me that the feavers as a child could account for it all. We'll possibly know in a few days. May he rest in Jesus arms.

John Travolta's Son: Meds Ultimately Did Harm (http://www.tmz.com/2009/01/04/john-travoltas-son-meds-ultimately-did-harm/)
Posted Jan 4th 2009 12:29PM by TMZ Staff
TMZ has learned more about the medical condition of John Travolta's son, Jett, and the medication that ultimately didn't work.
We're now told the grand mal seizures Jett suffered were "frequent and extremely serious." Travolta's lawyers, Michael Ossi and Michael McDermott, tell us "each seizure was like a death," with Jett losing consciousness and convulsing.
We now know Jett was taking a drug called Depakote, a strong anti-seizure medication. There have been reports Travolta refused to give his son anti-seizure meds because of Scientology but those stories are not true.
Jett had been having seizures on an average of every four days, until he started taking Depakote. Ossi and McDermott say the drug initially worked, reducing the frequency to approximately once every three weeks.
Jett took Depakote for "several years," but it eventually lost its effectiveness, according to Ossi and McDermott. They say the Travoltas were concerned about possible physical damage. And, Jett went back to having around one seizure a week. So Travolta and Preston, after consulting neurosurgeons, stopped administering the drug. No one is suggesting withdrawal of the medicine in any way caused the fatal episode.

It doesn't surprise me that mom and dad did everything possible to help their son, even so far as going against the teachings of scientology. I would be more surprised if they didn't.
But this story highlights how parent's hands are tied when they are trying to decide (scientology aside)whether or not to medicate children. I don't know wtf is going on out there with all the neurological issues with children, but I sure wish to hell they would spend less money and time on AIDS research and focus on the things that are really important.... sorry, went off on a tangent, but just had to blow off some steam. :censored:

I was at the L. I. J. hospital for my last month of my hospital confinement (5.5 months total) for rehab.. In the brain injury unit. Frankly, as bad as I was, damned near everyone there was worse off. It was an eye opener and brain injury , from what I saw, was the most difficult to recover from. And as arbitrary as could be. Most were there when I arrived and still recovering when I left.
From what I have heard about Jett and his Father, seems to me that everything any rational parent could do was done, and more.

Ossi and McDermott: "Jett was not left alone. He had a nanny present at all times. The nanny was sleeping close to Jett's room. There was a baby monitor, a chime on the door so it was known when Jett was going in and out. He was completely supervised. The nanny found him.

That says to me he was autistic. A typical teenager with a seizure disorder does not need monitors, or bells on their door. An autistic child does.
That said, it does look like they sought medical intervention for his seizures, so I am sure that they got the best money could buy in private teachers for their son.
Tragic accident. The press should leave the family alone.
