Democratic leaders tell defiant Illinois governor they will not seat his selection of former state Attorney General Roland Burris, setting up a potential showdown.
<snip>
"It is truly regrettable that despite requests from all 50 Democratic Senators and public officials throughout Illinois, Gov. Blagojevich would take the imprudent step of appointing someone to the United States Senate who would serve under a shadow and be plagued by questions of impropriety," Senate Democrats said in a written statement.
Obama sided with the Senate leadership, saying in a written statement that the governor's decision was "disappointing" and that he should resign so a "lawful and appropriate process of succession" can take place.
"Roland Burris is a good man and a fine public servant, but the Senate Democrats made it clear weeks ago that they cannot accept an appointment made by a governor who is accused of selling this very Senate seat. I agree with their decision," the president-elect said.

And meanwhile, we haven't heard from Rahmbo in how many days, now?

Three weeks from being sworn in and the new administration is already giving everyone fits. :-)

I would love to see what legal means they use to stop a 100% legal appointment.

Yep, and they don't dare call for a special election and risk a white republican winning "The One's" seat.

The Ball is in Dingy Harry's court now. From what I've read & heard he is expecting an uphill battle for his own re-election 2010.

Blagojevich pick: Not seating me could appear racist
Nominee for Obama’s vacant seat would be only black member of Senate

Burris: 'I’m qualified' for Senate seat
Dec. 31: TODAY’s Meredith Vieira talks to former Illinois attorney general Roland Burris about being named as Barack Obama’s Senate replacement by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
If Senate Democrats refuse to seat Roland Burris as President-elect Barack Obama’s replacement in the U.S. Senate, some people could view it as racism, Burris said Wednesday.
“It could give the appearance to a lot of individuals — not only African-Americans,†Burris told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira Wednesday in an exclusive interview. “Is it racism that’s taking place? That’s the question that someone else could raise.â€

Bull :censored: , you just raised the issue of racism. You are doing the same damn thing that the Obama camp did, bringing up racism and then blaming others. :censored: ahole. Before this, I didn't have anything against Burris, and thought it was a smart move by Blago.

I have decided that I quite like this guy, what's not to like about someone called Roland who names his children Roland and Rolanda? :lmao:

A transmission from Bizarroland, where Blago’s only option to make sure Illinois has two Senators in January is to appoint someone himself rather than resign now and let the lieutenant governor make the appointment. I’m giving you four and a half minutes of lowlights, but if you can’t spare the time, skip ahead to 3:25 and watch Rep. Bobby Rush — a former Black Panther and the only person to defeat Barack Obama in an election — stoop to some of the most exquisite race-baiting you’ll ever see. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but the word lynch makes a cameo. Or rather, its first cameo; a second followed shortly thereafter.

You didn't see the race card coming? I was surprised Blago didn't just come out and say "and anyone who opposes this appointment is a racist."
I think it is delicious.
