Thousands injured trying to open plastic packaging
Reported by: Joe Ducey
You try cutting, tearing and ripping.
Depending on which way you choose to try and open hard plastic packaging, the outcome can be painful.
“I've cut myself with a knife,†a consumer told ABC15. “Because I was trying to open it.â€
Plastic packaging, often called a “clamshellâ€, can turn dangerous.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, plastic packaging has caused more than 25,000 injuries since 2004.
The problem is not just the hard, clamshell like casing.
It is also what people are using to open up the packaging.
Scissors and knifes are the common implements people use.
--------------------------------------------
What you need to know about opening clamshell plastic packaging:
- Always clear the area of people
- Use heavy duty, utility scissors with blunt tips
- Wear protective gloves to protect both hands
- Always cut away from yourself
- Don’t use your legs to keep the product stable; you may end up inflicting serious injury to yourself.
- Check out these websites selling instruments designed to cut packaging and keep you safe: http://www.wrapragecure.com/product.html ; http://www.myopenx.com/home.htm

I agree, those clamshell packages are a PITA to open.
Anywho, but TiT shows up:

15. At our Town's first Get Ready (DHS) meeting.
We were discussing eartquake (since we are on SF Bay) preparedness in a program called GetReady94920. I had already relized it was a sham, but then the Homeland Security guy started talking about shutting off the gas in event of earthquake.
From a box, he produced this multi-piece tool in clamshell packaging. He told everyone to have one of those at the ready, just in case. I asked if it wouldn't be a good idea to put the damned thing in a bag. Ours is an older community and I, in my fifties, was one of the younger folks in the room.
He said oh, no, we certainly didn't want to loose any of the components (which were probably going to prove impossible for most of the old folks to assemble, anyway).
So I said, "Bam, earthquake! You have 10 seconds to get that thing open and in use before the house blows up".
You should have seen the guy.
Like a monkey screwing a footbal, he was all over that thing.
Hilarious.
Sure Tom, sure it happened just like that.

I use a sharp pair of scissors and trim around 3 sides and have no problem. My gripe is that they sometimes hide instructions under cardboard where you need to cut. Then there is that little problem about returning the item in it's original packing/contents if it doesn't work or is the wrong thing.

Yeah what ever TiTty boy

Yep, TiT is lying once again. I know you can use a simple crescent wrench to shut off the gas at the meter or even a pair of channel locks. I've done it while doing home repairs. I was curious about why someone should remove the wrench ahead of time from the clamshell. Hey TiT, what parts are there to lose?

You have to look at it from TiT's point of view. When you're stone drunk on MD 20/20 all the time, even unzipping your pants before pissing becomes a problem on the scale of a manned lunar landing.

Well, yeah, he typed a post, didn't he? :-)
Hi-5 for showing the real deal, though.

Another thing is this. If you only have ten seconds to do anything your probably not going to make it unless your name is James Bond. TiTs little try at a bouncy failed, much like his life in general does.
-
I've never come close to injuring myself opening a clamshell package, but, then, I am not ****ing retarded.

The operative word is bolded. I've come pretty close to injuring others while trying to open one of those packages, usually . . . well, always as the result of some smart-ass comment, but never myself.

I thought Titty boy was leaving the DUmp? another lie?

He's supposedly "leaving" Jan 20th.

Bwahahahaha! I am sure he will be writing tales of the heroic acts he performed.

I'm surprised the DUmmies haven't been blaming Bush for the clamshell packaging yet.

Damn... that one is probably his most incoherent post yet. I'd say he was deep into a box of wine when he hit "post".

I think it's supposed to be "poetry".
More proof that art should not be subsidized by the government.

Luckily, his house fell on his ex-girlfriend. He took her shoes, walked down this brick road, met a few friends (a scarecrow, tin man, and lion), and hooked up with his ex-girlfriend's sister. I heard the sister melted for him.

It is a bit of an aside, but this one shows the standard intellect of the DUmp:
