I come off On Call today! Yay! Made it through the week without getting pulled out in the wee hours.
Everybody slept in today. I think my wife is still crashed as a matter of fact. Kids got cereal today rather than the big holiday breakfasts the last two days provided.
We stayed up and watched the first 3 episodes of Dexter last night after the kidlings crashed. Great series, if a lot disturbing. Today we are going into my wife's company to eat at the caffeteria there because the chef asked her to bring us all in for lunch today.
And of course post holiday cleanup. :)

It's 40+ degrees in the Sandhills of Nebraska this morning.
Talk about tropical weather.
I'm hoping the cats George and Gustav make their way home, but given the cat-killing weather of the past three weeks, I doubt it. It would be nice if they did, but it's probably hoping against hope.
The other cats listened to me, and stayed indoors.....and survived. Many of them are outdoors right now, because while it's not going to be great weather, the lows will be only in the 'teens, no wind, and so if they don't come back by evening, it's not like they're in any great peril, as opposed to unrelenting -20s temperatures and 40-55 mph winds and lots and lots of snow.
Working on the Top 10 DUmmies of 2008 right now.

Finally crawled out from under the covers about an hour ago.
After this past week, came home yesterday from the home of a friend's daughter....full of tummy and exhausted from all the cooking, cleaning and decorating of the past week.
Was asleep by 5....woke up for a few hours of House reruns....and back to sleep. It was wonderful!!!
Have a couple of reports to get done today, it's raining.... again.....and I'm doing nothing else!!! :bouncy: :bouncy:

Slept in today after waking before 7 the previous morning. It felt great. Of course, I still have a lot of post-Christmas clean up to do, so that's not gonna be fun.
Gotta work today, and show up on time if I want my double time pay for yesterday (yes, I had to work on Christmas, and it was BUSY!).
-
I'm at work. *sigh* I'm already ready to go home. And since we're only getting paid 4 hours holiday pay for being closed on Christmas Eve, I actually have to work late today, Monday & Tuesday to make up 4 hours (our pay week is from Wednesday to Tuesday). :(
The upside is it's statement day, and I get to use my big fat red "CASH/COD ONLY" on a couple of accounts that I'm cutting off. That always makes me happy, the big fat red stamps. LOL! :-)

We had the Seven Fishes tm Dinner here for my family onChristmas Eve. Santa didn't finish up at our house until 3 a.m. Christmas morning. I was up for 23 hours. My wife worked Christmas Even night, so I got the girls dolled up in their Christmas dresses and schlepped them off to 8 a.m. Christmas Mass. The adventure is getting a 4 and 6 year old past the Christmas toys to church! We met mom for Mass, came home and relaxed. I cooked a Christmas ham for my wife's family, and then I collapsed. Today, I'm lounging. Maybe outside later for a cigar with my fireplace and new Sirius boombox. That's it. :-)
-
I also slept in. Luckily SR and I both have the day off from work. I haven't quite finished the post-Christmas cleanup. The dogs have been fed and are happy. Blue was disturbed as "his" coffee table is still full of paper and bags, so he wouldn't come out of the bedroom to eat. He stood by a little stool thing and wanted to eat his breakfast in the bedroom. It was easiser to carry the food in there than clean off that table. :-)
They aren't spoiled too much. LOL.

I just got steamrolled by the female contingent here and we went out and purchased Rock Band for the 360. Grump.

My friend's love Rock Band. They play every Saturday, I don't play I'm just a groupie. LOL

I am off work today! Watching a House marathon and updating itunes. And loving the peace and quiet. lol I hope everyone had a great Christmas!! :)

Boxing Day (26th December) is a holiday here. I have been reorganising the spare bedroom and storing things in the loft, some laundry and of course eating Christmas type fare (leftover Christmas pudding, mince pies etc).

Home from work. I got a big fat paycheck today and deposited it. My check-card dispute case is being officially withdrawn, now that the merchant gave me my money back. :yahoo: I still gave them a bad rating when they sent me an e-mail requesting customer feedback on their service. :hammer: I'm still a bit irritated that it happened to begin with.
I can't wait for Dec 30th. That will be my second Christmas, with my mom, stepdad, sis and nephew.
Right now, I'm shopping around on Best Buy.com.... any dvd suggestions would be much appreciated (aside from Disturbia, that's already in my "cart." :-) )

White Noise 2.
I got it on a whim and the acting and story are about a million times better than I expected.

Wow, we ventured out to Walmart this afternoon for some odd and ends. The place was a madhouse and busier than at any time before Christmas. They had a huge area corralled off for returns, but there were only a couple of people in line.
Oops, I forgot. They already had some Valentines candy out along with the Little Debbie Valentine snack cakes. :hammer:

Having a depression problem this afternoon.....too bad I can't double up on the "happy" pills. (I asked the pharmacist if I could and got a definite NO!")
Still have to get 2 reports done and all I've done all afternoon is eat Christmas leftovers and play Treasure Island Solitaire.
Our "runnin' buddies" called and asked us to go out for drinks and I said no. M was like ....uh...ok.
Was in a horrendous car accident 43 yrs ago today. My mom was killed. I still miss her...... :(

I am sorry you are feeling down. I hope we can cheer you up a bit.
We may be board friends, but we are friends.

No one knows exactly why St Stephen's day became Boxing Day. It has something to do with giving gifts to employees and the poor (as per Good King Wenceslas) but the origins are shrouded in mystery.
-
I thought it had to do with giving gifts rather than giving them on Christmas Day itself.....so as not to take away the "true" meaning of Christmas.

I thought it was a way for people to give away to the needy the crap they got from families. I always imagine a lot of servants getting Christmas sweaters and ugly ties for Boxing Day.

As I understood it, it was the day that the nobility gave the leftovers from the Christmas feasting to the commoners.
The foods were placed in baskets and later boxes and given out.
Seriously.

I'll bet it has something to do with boxes. I used to know the answer, but I forgot. I've slept since then.
Got back from my two-mile walky. I feel good. I think I'm going to bump it up to two and a half tomorrow. It's 60° and humid outside... it feels like a steam bath. Tomorrow will be nearly 70°. Blech.

I did get some good news today. After January 1st, I will be spending two days a week working with the regular IT group (as opposed to the helpdesk/call center). Sweet.

That's great Chris!

It's only little stuff that the regular group doesn't have time for... replacing power supplies, repairing this and that. I'm wondering if it's a plot to see how well I get along with the rest of their group. It's a little carbon copy of the guys I worked with at Ford and we always got along. Other than the rabid (ie. liberal) political BS and my dislike for 'bring your crotch monster to work day'. This company is about 1/5 the size of the FMCC branch I worked in. I think they also want someone who has actually handled customer issues and not just internal support.
I'm a little worried about when they will post the network admin job. I need to get my CCNA before then. I don't want to come up short.

Any chance you get to do work with them only helps you out.

Last year's Bring Your Child To Work Day was a mess. It happened while we were consolidating buildings. We had movers, construction, infrastructure/wiring going on. It was a mess, and we were expected to handle business as usual.
When I originally started, we were in four buildings. They sold them all, and leased two of them for their own use. We had to have new offices built and new wiring (electrical & data) to accomodate the new sardine cans. My stepfather's company is in one of the other buildings and I have friends who work in the fourth one.

I loved "Take Your Daughter to Work" day. One year my best friend came with me to my mom's work. Her dad worked at Lockheed and her mom was a stay-at-home so she couldn't do either of those. LOL. It was fun, and we were the only kids there and everyone was nice and my mom made sure we didn't bother anyone.
