American singer and actress Eartha Kitt has died at the age 81, a family friend has said.
Ms Kitt was said to have been suffering from cancer.
She was one of the few artists to be nominated in the Tony, Grammy and Emmy award categories and was a stalwart of the Manhattan cabaret scene.
She famously played Catwoman in the 1960s Batman television series and this century continued to perform regularly in theatre shows and concert halls.

The best Catwoman ever.
Distinctive style that will never be repeated.
R.I.P.

Hmm. I remember Julie Newmar only, and I was a pretty faithful viewer as a kid. POW! BIFF! OOOF! Holy Catcrap, Batman! It's Catwoman! Or whatever.

Well, you learn something new every day.
I must've fallen asleep during the Batgirl thing, too. Never saw an episode with her and that bullshit motorcycle in it either.
Jeezus. The crap that passed for entertainment 40 years ago.....
-
Wasn't she the one who gave Lyndon Johnson a lot of grief?
Yelled and screamed at him about the Vietnam War during a White House event?
I always thought that was kind of classless.

I always thought The Munsters was an awful ripoff of the Addams Family.

Except for extreme cases, I don't mix my evaluation of an entertainer's work with my evaluation of their political activities (hanoi jane and babs the nose being a few of those extreme cases).

What a shame. RIP
There is a funny clip of her singing maybe 5 or 10 years back and she says right before she sings one of her trademarks, "Santa Baby", she says she used to have fun with that song and then Madonna sang it. PLus she was in the shortie club so I gotta love the gal.

Yes, frank, she was. She made Lady Bird cry. Liberals can be so cruel to each other.
But, on the other hand, I loved Eartha Kitt as an entertainer. Her charms would escape you because 99% of it was her voice. She sounded like she was talking in three tones at once. About one three-note chord.
Eartha could say she had to go pee and it would sound important, exciting, and entertaining.
Like our next President, she was a mixed-race woman. Eartha was just as white as she was black. Like our next President, she always got credit for only her black side. Unlike our next President, she was beautiful human.

Who?

RIP. One of kind voice.

I might be wrong but I think Eartha was the Catwoman after Julie Newmar stopped doing it for some reason and then for only one or two episodes. As for Batgirl that was something done for the 3rd and last season of Batman. I got to meet Yvonne Craig two years ago and she still looks good for being in her 60s.

You are A-#1 correct. Julie Newmar, who is solely responsible for my veracious love of curvaceous women (from a very tender age):
Some vital statistics:
IQ: 135
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 145 pounds
Measurements: 38 (WoWZeR)-23 (I could fit my hands around that)-38 (WTF?)
Talent: still not enough known
Sex-appeal: unlimited!
I remember Ms. Newmar stopped being Catwoman due to some personal problems in her life. She had done 12 "Batman" episodes. Eartha did two, and Lee did the film.
I don't think Eartha was considered for the film due to the mixed-race romantic elements the script would have caused.
