Ditto. No gift exchange this year between me and Mrs. E. We spent a pile of money getting this house outfitted. That's enough.

Well, aside from the Toshiba flatscreen:

$125 in Best Buy gift cards
beautiful necklace with a glass pendant (I'll post a pic, it's hard to describe)
alligator ornament with Santa hat
Marley and Me book
Jade elephant pendant necklace (to represent my status as a CR chairwoman  :-)  )
5 scratch-off lottery tickets (all duds  :( )
candy

best present was to spend time with my grandparents, aunts and uncles, and a cousin.  :)

We pretty much agreed no gifts too btween the other half and I, but my mother got me a few really unique necklaces which she knows is my thing and the kids got me a medicine ball and a yoga mat...yes, I asked for those if possible. We had to get new phones recently so that was sorta the 'big' gift even though it was necessary. Oh and I got another tree with flocking on a great sale last week and that's really all I wanted. OH and my mother also got me frosty the snowman pjs(I fit in a medium--in fact they were baggy--woot!!)..yes, I asked for them..she always buys me a pair too so when I saw them I told her that I see the ones I wanted...Hey, it's an old family thing..don't laugh.  :-)

Oh the family got a wii too so that was another of the biggies. I've already kicked everyone's butt in boxing.  :uhsure:

Like ACC, I think what I enjoyed most was the hour long talk with one of my brothers. Really miss him and always waiting for the 'the call' because of his medical conditions.  :(

:lmao:
They were in my stocking (which was a surprise in itself.  I didn't think I'd get a stocking this year.  Didn't get one last year.  :( )  Everyone here got them.  A couple folks won about $5 each.  All others were duds.

Me too. I will be celebrating late this year as I'm visiting family on Sunday and I'll get gifts then. But I did have a couple of gifts from friends (chocolates and books) and a new computer from me to me - but I needed that tp use for work as well as pleasure.  :-) I'm not spending lots this year because I'm having the garden relandscaped but one cool gift I found for my brother was a complete set of plants for a vegetable garden (http://www.rocketgardens.co.uk/showdetails.asp?id=361)

Warhammer 40K Model

Nintendo Wii Speak, and a card to download some new games with.

A gift certificate for dinner at Red Lobster

And my mother-in-law got me whats probably the weirdest Christmas Gifts ever.  An umbrella that fits in the glove box, a flash light that can stand on a tripod, a 4 DVD set of Deer Hunting shows, and other various little things.  First Christmas she's sent me any presents, so I'm guessing giving her a "legitimate" Grandchild was enough to get her over me being an Atheist and the worst mistake of her daughters life.

I just finished getting the 13" TV/DVD combo hooked up in the Mancub Cave.

I had to go to 6 different stores to find one.  Everybody has shifted over to flat screens it seems.

At the very end of the TV aisle in Shopko was a dusty forlorn looking Television floor model that still looked like a TV. :-)

We still have a 13" Korean TV in the basement that runs (Albeit like crap) and that thing is 20 years old.  I think I may have purchased the last Television in my lifetime that looked like the "Traditional" TV's I grew up with.

We've got a 13" Japanese one thats about that old.  Still works pretty well.  Thats your problem, you bought Korean.

We had a DVD player that was Korean in Japan.  About 3 months before we moved, it started to go on the fritz.  It got to the point that I was frustrated with it, and hit it, and it started working.  So I told my wife (whose Korean) later on when it was doing it again, that because it's Korean technology that you had to hit it to make it work.  She got this pissed off look on her face, and I told her to try it.  So she did, and it started to work.  She didn't say a word.   :-)

You mean the ones that look like a piece of furniture?

My neighbors had an old Zenith console... I'm not sure, but I think they still have it.  I hope they've upgraded since 1977.  I have a friend who does electronics repair... you'll still see people pulling up to the store with four of their friends to offload some old console set to have it repaired.  I wouldn't mind retrofitting one of those with an HDTV setup.  It would be cool.

I went to dinner with my dad yesterday.  He gave me a check for $150.  He also bought me a Wii a few weeks ago.  Then we did a little shopping,  mostly looking and no buying.  But we found this great dining table with 4 chairs on sale, and he was going to buy it, but they were out of stock.  They only had the floor model left and the leg on the table was broken.  Oh well, I just thought that it was nice that he would have bought it if they had had it in stock.

Anywho, then supper of seafood gumbo at my mom's.  Delicious!  And my mom bought me the Wii Fit a few weeks ago, so I wasn't expecting anything, BUT she got me this really nice 10 cup rice cooker!  And she also got me The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

My mom, her boyfriend and I watched A Christmas Story.  Jim had never seen that movie before.  So when a funny part was coming up, both my mom and I would say "Oh this is a good part Jim."  LOL!

Today, I went to my SIL's sister's house.  From my brother & SIL I got a gift card for Target.  From one nephew I got bag clips and the other gave me this bracelet that's too small to fit on my wrist.  LOL!  They loved the stuff I got for them.  The sister's two girls got a Wii and we all played that.  Ate some queso and chips, chili and ham sandwiches.

It was a good Christmas.  :)

Oh, I dunno, I got the usual standard stuff.

Including yet another annual subscription to the Reader's Digest, from a nephew and his wife.  It's not really my thing, but they've always heard me complain about the Reader's Digest creating new ailments, new diseases, that never before existed in all the history of mankind, and so it's probably a gag gift.

The neighbor brought over 7 20-pound bags of cat-litter.

A padded jacket from a certain woman, which fits but is useless, because I don't wear heavy clothing.  I thanked her anyway, profusely.

Lots of homemade cookies, from various people.

A $70 gift certificate to be applied against the purchase of a revolver, from the old guy across the river here.

A round roast of beef, circa 8 pounds, for the cats, from a little old lady in town.

Four pairs of gloves, ranging from expensive leather to a $1.19 pair, from the ancient elderly gentleman who used to mow the lawn here, and his wife, but alas useless because I don't do gloves.  I thanked them anyway, profusely.

A gift certificate for $25 from the local bar-diner, from the town inebriate who now mows the lawn here; I was touched, because apparently the business doesn't do gift certificates, and so the owner of the place hand-wrote it for me, on the back of a page from a calendar.

Photographs of the infant daughters of the nephews and nieces-in-law.

The oldest nephew got me a new tower and hard-drive, which I've already talked about, but as he's far away and to come here means a considerable detour, we'll see when that gets here.  The conditions of weather and the roads puts a damper on travel here.

The soil scientist who's still analyzing the William Rivers Pitt gave me a china commemorative plate of Clare Booth Luce.

There's other stuff, but as I immediately put them away and send off a "thank you" note, I forget after a few days.

Yeah, this was 9-12 count/lb too!  Big suckers.  The heads were still on, but at that price I'll deal with shrimp heads.  She said they also had great prices on beef, chicken and poultry.  And the upside, is that they had all the signs written in English too.  I go to a Fiesta sometimes, but they don't always have it written out in English and I don't know much Spanish.

I'm definitely going to check out that Asian market for meat in the future.

The "World Market" down the street has great deals like that.  Those shrimp heads are sharp -- watch out!

That mercado always smells like pissy hay.  I have no idea why.  I still haven't gotten around to making malanga chips like I used to  I don't do a whole lot of cooking anymore.  I did replace the light bulbs in my kitchen today.  I can see now!  It's like having a new kitchen.

I got a 16GB iPhone (White).  I didn't want one but got one anyway from my husband.  I am officially glad I have one.  I have been playing with it all day.

I got new door knobs for my whole house.  I didn't actually get the knobs yet, they are ordered.  We have the lever type and they are a POS.  Half of them hang a few degrees lower than they should (think of the big hand of a clock, it should be at a quarter after but it is at about 20-25 after).  My husband has tried to fix several of them before but they don't "fix".  For the record, that is 35 knobs.   :uhsure:

I also got a new set of flatware from my parents (for me and my husband), my husband and I picked them out a couple of months ago (we have had our oig. flatware since we got married 22 years ago  :o ), some PJ's and a few other things from them as well.  Oh...I got a Lucky zip up sweatshirt from my Mom too.  I got a very sentimental framed picture from my brother.  It has a picture of me when I was 4 days old, both of my brothers are sitting in the chair together holding me, in the lower left hand corner there is another picture of my Mom, my Dad, me (i'm about 4) and my brothers sitting on a couch.  The background of the two pictures has some sort of scrapbook type background.  It is really nice and I loved it.  I really miss my other brother though and everywhere I turned I was reminded of him.   :(

My brother was really thoughtful this christmas.  He collects old cameras and he gave my son several of his with old books about photography (my son is really into photography).  My son was thrilled.  He gave my husband a reprinted "Original" 1953 Chevy Truck manual (he is rebuilding a '53 Chevy truck).  He gave him something else but I can't remember what it was.  He gave my oldest daughter a set of really nice paintbrushes (she is really into art) and some anime thing that I don't know what it was but she knew exactly what is was and was so excited (which meant he paid attention to what she likes).  He gave my youngest the whole set of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom and a sock money.  He normally doesn't "think" this much when he gives gifts.  It was very thoughtful and everyone loved their presents.

Oh Dear God.

I think the four of us killed close to 3 & 1/2 pounds of prime rib.

I forgot that it was like protein crack to my wife, lol!!

The platter was at her end of the table and she kept nibbling at it and begging me to put away the left overs.  :lmao:

Dutch apple pie just hit the oven for laters.

We reorganized the DVD's today to make room for the incoming and get them back in alphabetical order so the Type-A's in the house don't lose their minds. :)  It turns out I have enough zombie flicks to constitute a "Zombie Section" in my wife's organizational universe. Pulled out about 15 or 18 to donate to the library.

She was losing her mind because I had sequals organized with originals regardless of actual title.  And the box sets!  Oh Lord lets not go there!! :-)

I joke.  Things look great.

Unfortunatly we need to buy a new entertainment center to accomodate the new TV and it is going to require new DVD storage racks.  So we get to do this all again sometime soon.

I'm getting to that point.  After most of my DVDs were stolen, I haven't bought any replacements.  I just use Redbox and NetFlix.  If I realy like it, I'll burn it to my computer.

Books are entirely different subject.

I have some sort of phobia, I never set foot in a library.  I don't know what it is but when I want a book I never think of going and just checking it out of the library.  I normally just give away a book after I've read it to friends or my Mom.  Only rarely do I ask for them back.

Yep.  That's who I sort of feel like right now. :p

But Scrooge did give me Dec 30 through Jan 2 off to go back to Atlanta, so I'll suffer these next few days to get my reward.  :cheersmate:

I should have made it clear I was being sarcastic when I mentioned that I would "suffer."   :p   It's not a big deal to me.  I've worked 8 days in a row once.

8 days was ridiculous, but I also got paid well.  But these days, given my health, I can't work like that anymore.  I have to have my off days spread out.

Nice house!!!

Santa brought me a phone dock/charging station, a new jacket, some stuff from Trader Joe's...and my secret Santa from work brought me a tie with my picture all over it....

Went out to lunch, and then did a little gambling, followed up by watching a couple of movies.

Frank, it sounds like you had a good Christmas.

You can always keep the heavy jacket and gloves in the trunk of the automobile, in case you have to walk in the cold.

Hey everyone...sounds like you all had a good Christmas!  I didn't touch the computer or watch TV all day...just hung out with my family.  Had a great day!

Had a good day, gift-wise, as well.  Mr Flame bought me a necklace (unusual for him!) that I love, and he also got me a food processor, which I've been saying I wanted.  He loaded my stocking with chocolates and cappacinos, too.  Kids got me a sound machine/alarm clock, some Bath and Body work lotions and some socks and gloves (that I had requested).

Kids got a Guitar Hero game...we all played from 10 yesterday morning til almost 6 last night, rotating and taking turns and breaks at various times.  Its fun though.

The money from grandma and grandpa was a big hit...$100 in samller donominations, individually placed in small gift bags, which were then placed in a big one.  Was a riot watching them open it all.

Anyway, all in all it was a great day!

I got a new black down filled coat from Bass Proshop as well as a Black fleece shirt or jacket and hunting socks(?) .Got a DVD of I,Robot and a Gift Card from the boss and I got a cup that heats up when you plug it into the lighter in the car. I also got a box ofcandy from one of the companies that we do security for which was nice seeing as how Warren Buffett owns both companies. Not to bad of a Christmas this year.

Santa brought me jack and shit yesterday, and he left jack in the sleigh.  I spent the day alone... my family is hither and yon, and I was kinda unhappy about being by myself.  I don't need anything (okay, I wouldn't mind getting a BMW for Christmas) but it would have been nice to have somebody around.  Yakking on the phone isn't the same, so I left it turned off and didn't pick it up.  At least I have my CC friends.  :-*

I got into a fight with my brother right before christmas dinner.  He is the type that always criticizes me...I just wasn't going to take it on Christmas Day when I spent the entire morning preparing a nice dinner for everyone.
Well, he didn't speak to anyone at the dinner table nor did he speak the rest of the day.  BTW, he's nearly 40, not a teenager.
No "thank you", not even a "dinner sucked" when he left.

Christmas alone would have been better than my Christmas.

I've seen those... they're extra-wide, flat saucepans?  I use my regular cast-iron pan.  I still cook everything seperately.  I did the chorizo and the shrimp because they cook in the same amount of time.  Did the rice and dumped everything into that pot after it was done.

I used some saffron Goya rice I picked up in the Mexican section at WalMart.  It was pretty good.  The seasoning packet came with dehydrated green peppers.  Better than my usual white rice.

There was some travel show to Puerto Rico or somewhere similar that had footage of a street vendor using an enormous paella pan over an open fire.  He used pork, whole crawfish, shrimp and beef along with the rice.  It looked really good and probably tasted better than mine.  But I do love my chorizo.  You can't beat it.

The hypoallergenic cats are pretty cool.

The breed has good temperment.

It's actually remarkably easy to do.  Unless you get an absolute bonehead of a dog, which has been known to happen.

If I can survive having a puppy (well, ok, it ain't over yet), anybody can.

Belle is a 9-month old golden retriever. She is house-trained. Never once pooped in the house. But I have to say that house-training is the least of the work that goes into having a puppy. Trying to control the dog from chewing your house to shreds is where the real work comes in.

Well I could but even if I adopt you, it's my mom whose heart you'd have to win over.  She told me "I'm going to give Rob a check",  I said "that's great because he's saving up for a TV for his room".   The next day she called ... she got the TV.  Needless to say that more than made up for the Cheerleading shirt.

My kids are spoiled but it's the grands, the aunts, the uncles and the grown step-siblings that do the spoiling.

:lmao:  I've only got one suitor at this time (been dating him for just over 8 months) and the scary part is that he recently brought up the "M" word in a conversation with me on a date.  I'm 24 years old, and I'm nowhere near ready for that step just yet.

Another cousin and her husband were Katrina evacuees who resettled in Shreveport and built a new home.  They went back to NO recently, and they saw what you saw, and took pictures of their old house.  The water had gone all the way up to the ceiling.   :(

my bar tender at the airport has just NOW gotten back into her house.  she said that the feds should have stayed out of it;  it just delayed her insurance company paying for her damages.

Yeah, he does.  And that, um, excites him.  :uhsure:   :o He's a little too much like my sister's husband, in that he would like enough kids to form a baseball team.  Uh, no. 2 would be good enough for me, thank you.  Sometimes, dating older guys who are a little too eager to have kids is a little irritating (he thinks he's getting old...  I need an outsider to tell "D" ,a 29 year old, to chill out and that he has plenty of time :p :lmao: )

Just NOW?  That's the federal government, for ya.  :hammer:  I agree with her.

:lmao:  I've only got one suitor at this time (been dating him for just over 8 months) and the scary part is that he recently brought up the "M" word in a conversation with me on a date.  I'm 24 years old, and I'm nowhere near ready for that step just yet.

I was 26 when my first one was born. At the time I thought I was too young.

Now, I'm glad that they are grown and I'm not that old....but I still wish I had waited to get married (I was 24) and done more things - travel and career - first. But back then, all my friends were already married, and I thought I needed to be too.

I was lucky my second was a boy....I don't think I would have been willing to be pregnant another time.

My mom had me at 29, and I always thought that was a good age to start (though she had my sis at 26).

3 sets of pajamas/nighties
a bunch of cookware for the kitchen (I just need one of those KitchenAid mixers now  :uhsure: )
this funny little monkey lamp (looks like a butler holding a light in each hand...my sister will HATE it, so its perfect.  :evillaugh: She hates monkeys, for some reason we never could figure out.  :lmao: )
Reed defuser (I can't have candles in my apartment, so this is the next best thing)
a cute little wooden beaded bracelet and earrings
more clothes
fuzzy fleece blanket (curled up in that last night...) with a matching fleece sheep stuffed animal
$100 cash

Oh, and my new check card is finally here...  :-)

You should look into the Scentsy thingy.  My boss gave us all one a couple of years ago, and I love it. Scentsy (http://www.scentsy.net/)

Oh, that looks nice.  I'll look into those.  :)   I hate not being able to use candles.  All I use are the Glade plug-in warmers (ocean scent) and they don't last long, nor is the scent strong enough. :(

Sounds like everyone had a great holiday!! We're actually doing our Christmas this weekend when the kiddo returns. I did get my big gift from hubby though. He told me I would need it upon kiddo's return. I got worried until I opened it and discovered it was a really nice video camera! Whoo hoo! Now I have to figure out how to use it. We'll open the rest this weekend and pig out on ham. Yum!

Trust me, the apartment complex I live in doesn't exactly smell good. :(  I've been in several (not just mine, but those of friends as well, and they all have this terrible, musky odor.  They were built a long time ago, and were only remodeled about 4 years ago.
