To hear the city's spin, Seattle's road crews are making "great progress" in clearing the ice-caked streets.
But it turns out "plowed streets" in Seattle actually means "snow-packed," as in there's snow and ice left on major arterials by design.
"If we were using salt, you'd see patches of bare road because salt is very effective," Wiggins said. "We decided not to utilize salt because it's not a healthy addition to Puget Sound."
Liberalism, thy name is Stupidity (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008551284_snowcleanup23m.html).
So, let's put the environment ahead of human safety. How is salt bad for Puget Sound? Adding more salt to seawater isn't going to affect it that much. Frelling idiots.

Shhhhhh...you're confusing them.

Does the road go close to the Puget Sound? Because it seems to me that oil, antifreeze, gas, and transmission fluid would make a bigger impact (when the cars go skidding into it) on the Sound than salt.

That made me laugh. The image of numerous cars sliding off the road, one after the other, just like lemmings off a cliff. :rotf:

Having grown up in that area, and DRIVEN those streets in snowstorms, I don't know how anything is going to move ANYWHERE in that city. The East/West running streets coming up from the waterfront are on hills to impress San Fransiscans. With stop lights at the top of them (or in the middle of them). How the HELL do these retards expect vehicles to stop at stoplights where the road bed is caked in ice, and the vehicles start sliding back toward Elliott Bay the moment they shut down any momentum?
When I worked as a Shipwright for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, the EPA told us that the sawdust had to be swept up and removed from the drydocks before they could be flooded, because they considered it hazardous material.

It gets even better. When at Bangor, we had to segregate kimwipes we put "Spray N Wipe" on because it was an alkalai.

Road Salt and your table salt differing only in cleanliness. The Road salt comes from the same mines, it is simply not cleaned of other minerals.
So the salt that melts back into the water is the very same that precipitated out of the water a few tens of millions of years ago. This, of course, would be an ecological disaster :banghead: :thatsright: :koolaid:
-
166 MILLION TONS of salt per cubic mile of seawater. And these clowns are worried about HOW MUCH salt? Hell, even the average FRESH water contains something on the order of 20,000 tons of salt per cubic mile.

Heard on the Radio that the Cops are responding to accidents ON FOOT in especially slippery areas.
BTW, if you mix SAND into the snow, as it falls, you can get a controlable surface at the rubber/road interface. If there's nothing, and only a little sand on top, it gets very bad very fast. Can you say HIGHER AUTO INSURANCE PREMIUMS?

Somewhere, Darwin is laughing.
-
That plan must've been written by a city employee who gets snow days. I bow to his genius!

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!! didn't have to do that there. I remember the Kitsap area and they used a mixture of salt and sand.............way too much sand that became a problem after everything melted.
Yeah Sparky, the next thing your gonna tell us is a couple mickey mikes won't hurt ya. :-)

Cue the videos of cars slowly sliding and bouncing around like pinballs, with Blue Danube playing in the background...

Coincidentally , a youtube search for "icy roads" produced this as the first result. KING5 is a Seattle station. :rotf: :rotf:

Why, NOTHING has a higher co-efficient of friction than fresh snow on top of ice! :evillaugh: :fuelfire:

I wonder what the libtards would say where even in the most "progressive" of enclaves on the NH Seacoast (Portsmouth, Dover) they regularly "pre-treat" the streets with a salt/sand mix before the snow has even fallen in significant amounts.
-
Knowing the City of Seattle and King County's penchant for making draconian cuts in funding to essential services, spend that tax money on things that gives the progressive elitists stiffies, and then decry the shortfall of money to essential services as justification for a special levy/bond issue ballot, whaddaya wanna bet me that this whole mess is because the gub'mint didn't buy road salt stocks for this winter - gambling on the moderating marine climate in the Puget Sound basin to cover their butts until they could hit the taxpayers with another "emergency bond"?

Hey, I'm a member of the 2-Rem club. Ain't no thang.

"NO SALT" in DUmmieland.......it'll rust their old Volvo's and BMW homes on wheels. ...and you know we don't want to see the DUmmies homeless.
-
I am just amazed that they think salt will polute the ocean more than the cumbustion products of all those cars.
Liberals amaze me.

A couple comments from some folks living there.
There are 20 plows in Seattle, which uses no salt and has run out of sand at least once. Streets all over the city are closed because of ice on the roads. Most businesses have been closed 4 of the last 5 business days We have close to 10 inches of snow, with more on the way, in a city that has no means to deal with it, other than to pack it down and pray people don't crash. Driving on some raods is like driving along railroad tracks with the same type of bone-shaking bumping from the ice.
There has been no trash pickup, kids have missed 3 days of school, and the Greyhound buses stopped running, leaving people stranded for 4 days-living in homeless shelters. Then there's all the work missed all over the place. The city buses are running at less than 50% capacity, only stopping on flat roads or major transit centers.

Normal life has pretty much ground to a stop. Did you see that Seattle has special snowplows with a "softer" blade that doesn't harm the roads as much -- but also doesn't scrape down to the pavement, leaving a slick of ice on every plowed street. Insane. At least they are willing to salt the freeways.
-
Those sharper plows mean much needed re-paving work in the spring. Those anti-worker nazis don't want the common man to have jobs!!!!1111oneoneeleven.

Town Roads are smelly but at least there are no vampires. (http://www.mysuncoast.com/Global/story.asp?S=9542221&nav=menu577_2_1)
ANKENY, IOWA - An Iowa town smells like garlic this winter. They are using garlic salt on the roads due to a shortage of regular salt.
The garlic salt has now been mixed in with the city's supply of road salt. The city had to do it after they realized they were about to have a shortage of salt.
Luckily, a spice company came to the rescue. They had about nine tons of outdated garlic salt, so they donated it. The garlic will also melt ice, just like rock salt.
It's better than Seattle's choice. :hammer:
-
Just think! This is the very same logic that NObama's two latest "appointments" use! We're in for a FUN ride indeed!
-
My wife is a transit driver...said the routes were not that bad.........just the morons driving on them.

This is absolutely fantastic!
The libtard citizens voted the libtard politicians into office so they deserve to suffer and burn because of their asinine libtard thought process. Of course using a minuscule amount of "connect the dots" logic is beyond the intellectual horsepower of the clueless libtards so they will never "get it"!
Libtards causing their own pain, misfortunes, and angst is truly a wonderful thing to witness.

So the town smells like Gilroy. No biggie.

Then we should ban oil, antifreeze, gas and transmission fluid from the roads.
