Title: Ball-Shrinkin Cold Sunday
Post by: NHSparky on December 21, 2008, 07:14:22 AM
To quote the comic.  Colder in some spots than others, I'm doing okay with a -11 wind chill.

It's the extra 12-18 inches of snow coming that I could stand to do without.  And the 40 mph winds.

Yep--time to make a pot of chili, beef stew, etc., and sit in front of the fireplace whilst watching football.  Scoobs--I might hit you up for that care package pretty quick.

It's 1 with a -21 wind chill, but no snow.  The wife suggested shopping later today since my year vacation started yesterday.  It's only supposed to get to 9 today.   :censored: shopping, I want to hibernate.

It's -26 with wind factored in, -4 straight temperature.

The wind-chill index during the night actually got up to -41.

It's supposed to be below zero all day today (but less wind), after which a very slow warming trend, into the positive single-digits on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and then beginning Fridays, high in the upper 30s.

What's unusual is that we haven't had any new snow for a few days, but it's so cold the snow won't bond, settle down.  And so the wind swirls it around, endlessly.  I suppose one could say it recycles the snow.

This creates near invisibility, all this swirling snow close to the ground.

One has to drive using the Braille system.

Fortunately, for someone who's been all over since last night, putting lots of miles on the motor vehicle, I've been the only "traffic" around.  It's a lot easier to drive under difficult conditions when one's the only automobile on the road.

Well, with a little luck it'll stop snowing tonight so I can get the driveway plowed out before morning, otherwise it'll be a VERY early day tomorrow with that AND the extra 45-60 minutes I'll have to plan to get to work on time.  Usually it takes about 45 minutes, when it snows, double that.

It's already coming down here, and quite heavy already.  I'm just not looking forward to the wind when it picks up.

Cold outside today, but no snow, and not as cold as the negatives you all have been getting.  Enough to be cold though.

Gotta make some fudge here in a bit, so Mr Flame can take some to work tomorrow, and we may hit the mall to finish up the last cou0ple things we need to get (mostly, the kids want to go shopping for us, so we need to drive them).  May wait til tomorrow evening to do the mall thing though.

It's 36 here right now.....20 degrees colder than yesterday at this time. Supposed to be 19 tonight....wind chill in the mountains -15 to -20 below. We're only supposed to be around -5 to -10. Hello? I live in the south!!!

Had incredibly heavy rain last night. We were driving home in it and were talking that if it had been snow...would have been crotch deep to a 14 foot Indian.... :o.

Have to go about 30 miles away to do an interior....going to do it today as it's an empty house with no heat, and rain/snow depending on temps is predicted for tomorrow.

Least it seems more like Christmas time with the colder weather.....and the sun is out!!!

According to The Weather Channel it's 6 here in St. Louis and
feels like -11. Wonderful.  :whatever: My weather station says 8 here
at the house.

It's supposed to be windy today but the sun is out and there
is no snow in the forecast.

It's alternating between about 25 to 30 below with the WC factor here.  Winds are gusting up to 35mph in places.

We got about 4 inches of snow last night but it is at least sunny right now, if cold enough to freeze the nards off a polar bear.

My wife and the kiddies are trying to get home from Green Bay right now and are encountering accident detours and big ass snow drifts.

The cold has finally arrived.  13° tonight and we're not going to get above freezing for a few days at least.

Got up this morning and took the dog for a one-mile walk.

I'm pretty sure we have 20 mph winds coming off the lake. When we got back in the car after the walk, the car's thermometer said 3 above.

It took about a half hour to thaw out my face.

The dog was unfazed.

Been in the teens to low 20s here today.  An additional 6"-8" of snow fell.  After I eat an early dinner, I'll go outside to dig the two cars out of the parking lot.  I'm supposed to go about an hour south of here tomorrow, to look at vacant lots for my job.  There'll be a fair amount of them that will be tough to get to, and my supervisor already told me that it could wait until the next week, after Christmas.  It's not supposed to get to 20 tomorrow . . .

We have no snow, but it is frigid today as well. Gusts are awful and in the teens without the windchill all day. We are supposed to have worse tomorrow with a whopping high of 9 degrees and below zero windchills and I have to take my daughter for her appt wiht the orthopedic specialist to look at her wrist(it was fractured). Thankfully, my mother graciously offered to watch both of my sons so they don't have to go out in it too. One has a pretty bad cough right now so I'm thankful he doesn't have to go out in it and perhaps get worse. I hated thinking of trudging him out in the cold, along with having him be around all the germies at the hospital while we were there. I'll have to bring my mum a treat home tomorrow for being so great!

On the plus side today, I have a new phone and provider to play with...Got a Voyager. Switched from a Treo--hate the treo :censored: This was necessitated not only by the fact my treo was crapping out and we already were ticked at the other provider for never getting the rebates to us we should have recieved for the contract, but also because the other half lost his phone yesterday. :thatsright: Decided it was time to finally switch providers. He got a Blackberry Storm. I hate it.  :p :-)

By far my biggest coup of the day was my beautiful artificial tree I just got at Target for 50 something. They had 75% off the display trees...just marked down today--not th eone in boxes, but the display trees. I got a 200 dollar tree for 50 bucks. WOOOOOTTTTTT. That's really all I wanted to get this year on sale and I finally got it!  :yahoo: Oh and it has a bit of the flocking on it too..perfect amount in my opinion. I'm ahappy camper. I have all I wanted this year. That was it, oddly enough!

Well, I gotta get cooking and make his coworkers the gift of cookies...I already made a batch last week and believe it or not, that's what they want. The 4 of them picked their favorite and I'm making a batch especially for each of them with nothing but their favorite.

Temperature is going to drop dramatically here.  When I left the clinic (I have an ear infection...  Yay for antibiotics!  :hammer: ),  it was 55, but felt colder because of wind gusts.  They're predicting 33 degrees (and possibly lower than that) tonight.

As for the doctor visit, I love getting my ear canals poked and prodded.  :whatever: I'm prone to infection, no matter what I do to stay healthy.  :(

Now, I'm going to rest for the evening, and TRY to find the right coaxial cable for the tv online.  Target and Best Buy are nightmares right now, so I'm not in the mood to brave retail stores and all the nutcases currently inhabiting them.

It's back in the single digits here now, going down to 5 tonight. It's
currently 9.  :-)

I just cleared a foot of drifted snow off my front porch.  The plow service has the driveway scraped down to concrete. :-)

I shoveled a path from the porch to the drive and I need to hit it tomorrow and clean up a bit with the Toro. (Some sizable drifts up against the garage doors where the plows fear to tread.)

Okay, why is it so hard to find one stinkin' cable for my tv? I have looked at the websites for Best Buy, Target, MicroCenter (there's a store in Atlanta), Wal-Mart, Circuit City, etc. Nobody has what I need.   :banghead:

I'm HOME!  I had lunch with my grandpa, his lady friend and one of her grandson's today.  Then I hit the road to head home.  And 6 hours (I had to stop at Petsmart and get cat food) later I'm HOME!

I'm uploading my pics to post some.  :)

What type of cable? Radioshack?

What type of cable? Radioshack?

75 ohm coaxial.

I'll just go to RadioShack and let the experts guide this blonde chick through the process.  :uhsure:   It's strange, I understand medical terminology and all that goes with it pretty well, but when it comes to things like an HDTV, my mind goes blank sometimes.   :lmao:  (I haven't had a new tv in over 10 years, so I just wonder if any changes have taken place, or if I can just use the same old cable from my old tv).

Edit: I edited my user title to reflect the truth about me. :p

I bought coax at the electronics department at Wal-Mart.  I needed some shorter pieces (6 feet) to attach to my modem.

I hate Wal-Mart these days.  And entering one on the 22nd-24th would be absolute suicide.   :o

I don't go out at night by myself in Savannah (at least where it involves getting out of my car), since I lack a decent small purse-sized weapon.  Southside is a high-crime area. :(

Blew out the driveway mid-afternoon yesterday, woke up at 3:30 this morning to repeat the process, and shovel off the front/back porches and dig a path for the oil company to fill up my tank today or tomorrow.

14 inches yesterday, on top of the 10 Friday/Saturday.  Pics when I get home during daylight.  (Not likely this week.)

Tell me what you want/need, and I'll send you a carepackage. Two feet of snow sucks.

Down here it's just cold as hell. We've avoided the snow thus far.
