I'm moving your thread to the Automotive forum. :-)
Congrats. I like BMWs. Much more than M-Bs, anyway. I have my eye on a 3-series that I may pick up after Christmas if I have the cash.

Tex...it's a BMW. :-)
But it is missing one thing SLW adores...the heated steering wheel. :-)
The worst thing I've heard about BMWs is the mandatory 60k timing-chain replacement (ditto for Porsche). It is "recommended" to drain and remove the radiator, water pump and alternator before removing the timing chain cover. I remember my brother also complaining about some sort of suspension component.
It's still a station wagon.
Perhaps if you're looking for a new mode of transportation I could interest you in this:

SLW and I closed the deal on the replacement for our current 5 Series Wagon.
We got a 2007 3 Series Wagon.

The old wagon had over 120K miles...new one, 12,100. :-)
With our trade-in, it set us back a little under 25K. The car will be BMW Certified which means the warranty is good out till 2013.
And yeah...it's loaded.

I think she'll get over it.
The Germans state that it's not a "wagon", but a "touring" car or the "sportswagon". Oops, they did say wagon, didn't they? :-)
It's just hard to haul the pooches in a sedan. The 3 greys won't be happy with the smaller wagon, but it beats sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck. (actually I wondered what we'd do if we needed a tow with the hounds in the car). It would be hard to put the 2 of us and the 3 dogs in the other seat in the tow truck.
Your parents had a '71 Tornio?
Once you go German, you'll never go back. :-)
They are awfully nice cars.
But I've always been a Benz fan more so than a BMW fan.
Hey if it has seats that heat your bum, what more do you need? When I got my pilot I was in heaven that I had a butt warmer!
Congrats on the new vehicle! Lovely one indeed, you wealthy repuke! :cheersmate:
Butt warmers are a good thingy! :-)

My new car has both butt warmers and butt coolers. I HATE the butt cooler. It makes you feel like you are peeing your pants when you turn it on.

SR's uncle on Staten Island was talking about cars with butt coolers. Is it a Mercedes? It was the first time I had heard of AC'd seats.

The car is gorgeous, SR and SLW! Don't listen to TRG... :mental: Some station wagons are very attractive, if they are BMW's (or the Dodge Magnum, which is being discontinued... my sister's pissed about that news. :( She wants one so badly... but for now, she drives a lovely 97 Cadillac that keeps my nephew nice and safe. ). Never was fond of the Mercedes wagons, but that BMW wagon of yours...very nice! :-)

:-) You're right. Don't you work for a VW dealership?
I grew up with Chevies and Fords. My dad would never understand my attachment to BMW''s.

Yeah but its a station wagon that handles like a corvette. Thanks, you're right that it handles well. It really has acceleration. We just picked it up this evening. The best is the handling. It's smaller than the old 5 series wagon and much sportier. I was really pleased how they had detailed it as it didn't look as good when we first looked at it. It's been used as a loaner since Sept 07, so the interior had some scuffs. They made it look like new. For the big discount on it, it was worth getting the loaner vs a new one.
My congratulations to SR and SLW on the new ride! (right country wrong brand though, lol)

I'm so thrilled to have this, as the old one really had me worried when I was driving it. The engine light went on again this morning and the engine was really rough.

Now that made me laugh.
My Mercedes has heated seats and I absolutely love them. Its great for cruising top down when its cold out. Sometimes I have the heated seats on at the same time as the AC though. It feels great on my back, lol.

When I went to college my parents told me I could go to the college I really wanted to go to or I could have any car I wanted. I picked the college and my parents allowed me to drive their 1976 Chevy station wagon that looked just like that picture. Only mine was white. It got about 10 miles to the gallon but I honestly believe you would be better off to drive one of those in war than to drive a humvee. That thing was a tank! I bet somewhere out there someone is still driving that thing.
I'm very upset. The dealer had the car detailed so beautifully and it was just gleaming---that is, til I had to go to work today and get it out in the spitting rain/sleet this morning and the downpour this afternoon.
They said the temps would raise this afternoon and there would be no trouble with the rain. When I got home let the dogs out. They all promptly came back into the house. Poor Blue did the splits. I thought he wouldn't be able to get up. He did the splits 2 times on his way back to the house (he never got off the patio) and started it again on the little stoop. I had to grab him by the collar and get him in to avoid split #3.
Nice! So who's the first one to get a speeding ticket in the new car? :-)
Nice looking car. I thought you got a car to haul the dogs around in though. You get rid of the Grey hounds and get some Chihuahua's :evillaugh:It has two features that we'll never use. One is a ski bag. The other is a sort of barrier that pulls up and attaches to keep the dogs in the back. The :-) problem is there's no way that 3 greyhounds could fit into the little area back there. They barely fit when you put the back seats down. I've got a comforter and big blanket for the back, so they don't scratch up the back of the seats. The 5 series had a sort of carpeting on the back, so when the seats were down, it was continuous with the rear carpeted area. The backs of these seats are hard, so it's going to take lots of cushioning for the little princesses and prince.

We got a "new" BMW yesterday! (thought I'd piggy back onto this thread) It's an old one (a 92), but the price was right, and Mr Flame's free one fro ma couple years ago is starting to get extremely tired. The old on will now be parked in the garage, and it is the "project" for Mr Flame and my 13 yr old, to tear dow nthe engine and rebuild it, and fix everything up...then, when he turns 16, he can have the car.
The new one is a standard, so I get the joy of treaching my daughter to drive a stick, and hopefully she will end up with that car, once we can afford to get another car for dad.
What model is the "new" one? Smart move. Getting a new one is so expensive, hate absorbing that depreciation. A neighbor got a '99 wagon like my old one for really cheap. It had been in a flood, but he thought it was a good car. He got it a couple years ago and it's still running well.
I used to have a BMW M3 with a stick. I really enjoyed driving it. The stick is really fun to drive, except in rush hour traffic. :-) My dad always had the manual transmission, so I learned on the stick. It was years before I ever started using an automatic.
It's a 381 IS, 2 door, red. In great shape. Only "problem" is with the clear coat on the bumper, and there is a noise Mr Flame needs to track down. HE works with the person we bought it from, and she bought it new, so we know the history, which is nice.My 90 M3 had that clear coat and was red. Also had problems with the clear coat on the bumpers. I ended up peeling most of it off and the other cracking stuff sort of wore off. The problem was it was a duller, lighter red than the sides and top, where the clear coat didn't flake off.
Driving a stick is getting to be a lost art anymore. I can't tell you how many people I've run across who have no clue how to drive one. Should be a requirement of driver's ed, IMHO.

That is absolutely stunning SR! I am already planning on my next car and Im torn between a BMW or Mercedes sedan. A 5 series would be awesome but an E or S class Mercedes would be NICE too.
