Title: Perry County (AL) passes 'Barack Obama Day'
Post by: Chris on December 03, 2008, 09:31:29 PM
Save the date: Ala. county passes Obama holiday (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081203/ap_on_re_us/obama_holiday)
Quote
MARION, Ala. – In central Alabama's Perry County, government workers already get a day off for President's Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Veterans Day. In 2009, they'll get one more: "Barack Obama Day."

The Perry County Commission's three black members and one of its two white members voted for the Obama holiday.

Commissioner Brett Harrison said Wednesday he voted against the resolution because of the costs to the county, which has a $2.2 million annual payroll and is one of the poorest in the state. He said closing the courthouse would also idle some state employees.

"I'm a Democrat, but just in these financial times, it's not using the county's money wisely," Harrison told The Associated Press by phone Wednesday. "The recognition is certainly well-founded."

Oh this has the ability to be quite comedic in 4 years.  If Obama crash and burns, then I wonder how quickly they'll repeal this.

I don't see anyone celebrating Michael Dukakis Day, and the Big Zero is a lot closer to Dukakis than MLK in a lot of ways.  At least Jimmy Carter got a street named after him in Atlanta.

All I can ask is "Why" ?? Obama has done NOTHING to deserve a "day" in his honor. NOTHING!! He hasn't even taken office!! This is just F'n retarded. BTW, for those that might read this from other places on the net, Obama isn't but 5% black. Black folks have sure shown America exactly where they stand. Racism, anybody ??

Sponsoring commissioner Albert Turner Jr. said the holiday is meant to highlight the Democratic president-elect's victory as a way to give people faith that difficult goals can be achieved.
Perry County has 12,000 residents, most of them black. Voters there backed Obama by over 70 percent in a state that gave 60 percent of the overall vote to Republican John McCain based largely on strong support from white voters.

It just gives them another day to not work.  :fuelfire:

I saw the guy interviewed on Fox this morning, he said there is a provision in there that it can't be repealed.   :whatever:  Also he said the one guy who voted against it use to be a Republican and switched to Democrat to get elected and that was why he voted against it.  This Obama worship is really starting to scare the crap out of me.

Reading between the lines, I gather the county electorate is heavily Black, which pretty much explains the vote if so.  In that case, no matter how badly Obama does, there is zero chance of this getting undone later.

As a level headed person, I don't think I'd want to see a law passed that "can't be undone". That's just stupid. I'm glad that it's only in this one county.

The Obamasheep are in blind love with him...I have an "argument' with my moonbat coworker all the time about things like this...He's not even sworn in and they talk about how great he is.... :lmao:

This raises the bar on the Obama Delusion Syndrome.

I don't think that "Can't be undone" thing actually has any validity legally, newer statutes/ordinances/laws conflicting with older statutes/ordinances/laws from the same body always trump the older ones, it's a baisc conflict-or-laws principes.

This is the kind of garbage that is going to whip around to bite them in the ass. God has a way of doing these things. I fully expect in four years, 75% of those who voted Obama will deny ever doing so.

How come there is no Jimmy Carter Day? He ran on being as an outsider and promoting change like Barack Obama.

Has "Obama Day 2009" been cancelled yet?
