Title: Tuberville steps down at Auburn

Quote from:
AUBURN, Ala. - Tommy Tuberville stepped down Wednesday after 10 years as Auburn’s coach, a reign that included a perfect season and a string of overachieving teams but ended with the worst record of his tenure.

Jerk had no business ever leaving Ole Miss.  So he's no longer at Auburn?  Good.  Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.  Hope he gets run over by a bus.

Wow, here's an inspiring hire for Auburn!

Sources: Auburn to name Chizik as coach (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3767115)

Quote
Iowa State coach Gene Chizik has been hired as the next football coach of Auburn, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.

AuburnUndercover.com, the Birmingham News, Mobile Press-Register and Rivals.com reported Saturday that the former Auburn defensive coordinator will succeed Tommy Tuberville, who resigned following 10 seasons.

An Auburn spokesman said no announcement was scheduled for Saturday; an Iowa State spokesman said he couldn't confirm the reports.

Chizik is 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State after stints running the defenses at Auburn and Texas. He coached the nation's top scoring defense in 2004 in his third and final season with the Tigers. That defense allowed just 11 points a game and Auburn went undefeated.

Chizik has been a hell of a defensive coordinator at both Auburn and Texas, and rather unknown.  I just don't see this as a good hire for Auburn.

What a STUPID STUPID f'n move. We're the SEC, we don't scrounge around on the bottom for coaches. Hell, I'd have MUCH rather seen Gill Turner on the plains.

You mean Turner Gill? :-)

Iowa State is reportedly looking at Tuberville.  That's quite a trade.

Yeah, I've made that mistake quite a few times. Probably why I still make it.  :-)

BTW, ISU looking at Tubby? Do you have a link for that? Hell, AU would be beat by ISU in a few years.

BTW, THANKS AUBURN! Of the teams that poach talent from Mississippi, that's one school down. Only about 4 more to go.

No link, I was reading the comments on ESPN.com about the Chizik hiring.  There were a number of people who were suggesting that ISU look at Tubby.  I don't hang around the sports bulletin boards, but I assume the rumor mill is just as bad or worse than at political boards.

If Ole Miss and State would keep the HS talent in-state they'd have great teams every year.

BTW, State got Dan Mullen as coach, so now we'll see if he can recruit.

Charles Barkley doesn't like it, either. (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3770769)
