Deck the halls y'all!

Nice looking family you have there, asdf.
I never put a tree up because it clutters my already cozy apartment.
My sister said she set hers up today. I can't wait to see it.
-
Ho ho ho..... :-)
Great looking tree, stockings, family. You are a man most richly blessed.
-
I should be done by tomorrow so I'll post up my tree..... :-)
-
How come she is doing all the work? Your daughter did a good job taking the pictures.
I bet you were surprised when you woke up to find the tree was done. :lmao:
-
Got about 1/2 of out outside decorations fone yesterday, but haven't tackled the inside yet.
-
Not doing the tree thing this year, since I'll be at my father's for X-Mas.
-
Gotta get the decorations up today since I got some time, but I'll wait until Tuesday when I have another day off. Although I may get out the Nativity today... here's a pic of it.

Last time I decorated it was up until May. I have a little 2' tree and I crimped the ornament hangers on so they are permanent. I just take the tree out of its bag and stand it up. No need to decorate or take down. Instant Christmas.
I see this thread full of fun and life, and I realize there is no comparable thread on DU.
They are so full of hate and bigotry, can they even celebrate anything other than Big O's victory?
God Bless each and every one of you! You can live and love in spite of the shifting winds of politics.
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Can't say it any better. The happiness shows in those pics.
Guess we'll have to haul up our white artificial tree shortly. I always had a real tree, but got tired of cleaning up all the needles.

I'll post what I've done so far...still have to decide which tree topper to use, I may add some more balls... :-)

You need some clear glass balls and put them in the inside of the tree It reflects the lights of the tree and makes it really shine. It looks great.

Thanks...you can't really see most from the pic, but I do have pearl white, silver, black all around...With red accents. I didn't get any clear ones though..hmmmm...I'd think they'd just blend with the tree...but I'll buy a box and check them out. Thanks for the idea...
I have a silver angel tree top I may use...unless I see something nicer...

It's a very nice tree! One thing I have learned, if BEG says get clear balls, then you need to get clear balls. :-)

It makes it seem like you have twice as many lights. I always put them on first in the middle of the tree. Buy more than a box. You can get them really cheap at Hobby Lobby or Michael's.
The more balls the better it looks. (I'm serious here but I know someone is going to make a joke out of it. :p)

You are definitely right! The clear ones are great filler. Makes the tree look really sparkly!

Thanks BEG for the idea. I have a large white tree and sadly, too many Waterford and other crystal ornaments. Lately I've been getting more colorful ornaments, but might try some plain clear glass balls in the middle. Perhaps it will reflect enough light that the other ones will show up more.
I was shopping for a tree a couple years ago after Christmas and the large prelit green ones were already gone.

We just got a new tree last weekend. *We had* our old one we had since we moved into our other house and it was falling apart so we ditched it last year after christmas. This time we got a 9 ft pre-lit one (green). I love real Christmas trees but don't have the patience for continually vacuuming up the needles.
Edited: *I did it again. I left out two words in my sentence. Next I will start leaving out whole sentences and paragraphs.

*shrug* it's true ;)

I miss snow... :(
Ok, ok...I will get the clear balls!! :-) ...my tree is so full though...and it's pre-lit...I'm sure i'll find spaces for it them.
Last year I had a few people over to help me with the decor....it was much easier...drinking spiked apple cidar will mulling spices...christmas music...This year I did it all by myself. I"m not doing that again!

I use to think you were crazy, but since you have been hanging those clear balls, I can see yur .... nuts? :rotf:

Ours is never put away, but has snow on it. So does the cover. Problem is SR forgot to put the cover on it before it snowed. Oh, well, no big deal. :-)

Had to go looking for this thread so I could post a few pictures of our tree.
With flash (should I take down the pictures just for christmas?). No presents yet.
With out flash, it is blurry, I couldn't figure out the right setting. Ignore the tennis ball, the dogs were playing. :p

Misc pictures of ornaments. Do I have enough crap on our tree or what? I only put on about 1/2 of the Hallmark ornaments. I found out they changed the light bulbs on new lights, they don't work with my light up/moveable Hallmark ornaments. :censored:

Oh one more picture to show you my new mirror my husband bought me on my birthday. It is grainy as well because I had the settings screwed up. the plant on the left on the table was from my brothers funeral. :( BUT I haven't killed it yet which is good. :)

We bought a stupid 9 ft tall tree this year, HUGE mistake. That is the only place it would fit. Normally I have a sofa table on that wall under the pictures with a lamp and plant but I had to move it to make room for the tree. Don't ever buy a 9 ft tree, it is a bitch to decorate.
-
BEG your tree is beautiful!!

Thanks Dee!

Don't ever buy a 9 ft tree, it is a bitch to decorate.
It was hard filling up a 7' tree, I can't imagine a 9' one. I also put a star on top of mine, and that was a bitch to get straight, but luckily my uncle was over and able adjust it for me. I want to buy a pretty silver angel for next year....I'll waitfor the after christmas sales and hope there are some nice ones left at 50% off. :-)

My mom got a 9ft tree this year!! It was hard to make it look really "full" with the ornaments. But the results are fabulous! Taking it down, yeah not looking forward to that :) lol

Your ribbon looks much better than mine. I noticed after I downloaded the pictures that my ribbon isn't the same all over my tree, I'm going to have to fix that (I'm kind of OCD that way).
-

It took me three days to decorate (did it all by myself, except for putting the tree together, the ribbon and the star). I wonder how long it will take to take it all down? :(
-
The trees are all beautiful but I am really admiring some of the furniture and decorative stuff you all have. We have spent a small fortune in buying furniture and decorative little things and I can never get it to look nice. Love that mirror, BEG!
-
Beautiful trees.... we just picked up one today, so we're letting it "relax". It's not decorated, but it sure smells good.
-
I do miss the scent of a natural pine tree....
Maybe next year I'll do that...I'm kinda over the white tree...I think I was just missing snow... :uhsure:
-

Don't even think about how long to take down. Just enjoy it now. So far all I've done is put a big bow on this little penguin statue and put the Christmas doormat in the hall. We also sort of finished the outdoor lighting, but it's a pretty humble display.
I need to get the tree brought up from the basement. The darned thing is so heavy. I got it a couple years ago at 75% off. The thing is very full and a beautiful tree. I wouldn't have picked white, but it was what was left. My ex was so nutty he'd leave a REAL tree up til March or later. You can imagine what it looked like after that amount of time. :whatever: So one of the first things I did was get an artificial one. :-)
Your tree is so beautiful with an impressive ornament collection. I totally load my tree with ornaments, but it's only a 7 ft tree. There usually isn't a square inch that isn't covered with my ornament collections. It was one of my obsessions, but trying to refrain from too many more. There's simply no place to put them.
-
BEG, I love your tree...even moreso because I now that I know you collect Hallmark ornaments! I have some dating back to the late 70's(my mother has been collecting them for that long). I'll take a few pics of the tree..when I finish it. :thatsright:
All of the trees are really lovely. :-*
-
Everyone's trees look lovely.
Maybe I'll set up my little 4 ft one this year after all.

I HAVE to get mine up this weekend. We're still recovering from our Thanksgiving vacation.

Back when my kids were still cute. They have free reign to decorate the tree any way they want. I like mine really messy.

The kids are 9 and 10 now. The beagle lives on a farm now. He was the cutest little beagle too.

Deck the halls y'all!
I really dislike being a nitpicker, but the kitchen looks, uh, rather cluttered.
Out here, one cleans and scrubs the whole house first, including the out-of-the-way places, and then puts up the Christmas stuff.
It makes the whole bit easier.
Trust me.
I've lived it.
-
Frank you would have a stroke if you saw my house then. :-) I just move all of the clutter to the side to throw the Christmas tree up there.

That would be the breakfast bar post-dinner and pre-dishes. :-)
Of course what is NOT visible is my wife's Pile Of Organization consisting of the foot high drift of mail and papers waiting to be magically organized by the accounting and filing elves.
The two foot drift of Legos and assorted Bionicle parts belonging to the Mancub was bulldozed out of the way when the living room was prepped for treetime.

I have a 7 year old son and a 14 year old daughter Frank.
Better Homes And Gardens is a distant memory at this point.
I turned my wife loose on the paper drift that has been threatening to avalanch and kill me in the kitchen the last week.
I have high hopes that there will be countertop available by dinner. :)

I picked up extra tables so I can put more stuff under them and pretend it doesn't exist.
I have lots of boxes.

There are some great plastic boxes that have wheels on one end and slide under the bed.....you can fit at least 4 under a queen and they hold lots of unfiled stuff.....not that I would know ya understand.... :innocent:
you may need to buy the bed lifts in order to fit them under the bed....but they do make the bed a better height :uhsure:

Cincinnati had it's first little snow a few days ago. (took a quick pic out the back window) Of course, two days later it was 57 degrees and the snow was gone. Then we has a bit of an ice shower, then light snow then in the upper 40's with a warm springish breeze.
I'm predicting a white Christmas but then again this is Ohio, where we all say, "If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes... it will change"!!!

I messed with the settings on the camera...that finally was a setting that took out all flash, but didn't make it totally unrecognizable if I the camera was not completely still. I'll have to get the other half here to get some with the 'good' camera since he can probably get them even better then that. I wanted to pics you are talking about because I really wanted to the lights shimmering kidn of thing you know? I'm going to ask him to put a filter that makes the lights kind of twinkle too. I'll post the results we get.
As for the mantle--doh! That brass I don't notice those things unless I'm right up next to it or I take a picture of it. And it wasn't the week I wipe it down with the windex. I'd love to just take that down and open it, but I think it gets very cold if it's wide open like that.

Love your "tablescape" Deb... :-)

Deb. your tree is in the perfect spot. Your home and your decorations are beautiful.
Thanks. It is the perfect spot for the tree.....we just don't see it much in the living room. I don't have a spot for it in the family room/kitchen.
-
It all looks great. I love the wood beams in the ceiling.
Thanks. They are in the kitchen/family room, hallway and foyer too, only the ceiling is flat.
-
Love your "tablescape" Deb... :-)
Thanks! I was really pleased with the way it turned out. I found the placemats, the table runner and napkin rings at Big Lots around Thanksgiving. Gotta love Big Lots....I wouldn't have spent the money on the table runner in a dept store, I could justify the $10 at Big Lots though! :-) Found the napkins at Walmart.
I have found the easiest way to do flowers on the table is to just use glasses. I mix some very old "lemonade" glasses that were M's mother's, with some of my Waterford tumblers. Takes 2 Sam's bunches of flowers and 1 of baby's breath to do them, and I cut up a spray of silk holly from Dollar Tree. The little votive holders are from AC Moore for $1 each, and I've had them for a couple of years. (they are still available for the same price)
Next year, my only expense will be for the flowers.
I just love the Dollar Tree and Big Lots!! :-)
-
Deb your tree and decorations look great. You home is beautiful, I'm jealous. :p

Oh yeah, update on the light up/moveable hallmark ornaments (for those of you who collect Hallmark Ornaments). They have adapters for the old ornaments so they now work with the new style lights.
