Title: Happy Saturday!
Post by: Miss Mia on November 29, 2008, 09:26:49 AM
This is a weekend of the second job.  I got here a few minutes before 9, only to see that the agent on duty isn't coming in until 9:30.  Oh, and I get to leave at 3 instead of 5 today.  AND my check from working 2 weeks ago isn't here.  *grr*

I brought with me "My Years with General Motors" by Alfred P. Sloan.  He was in control of GM for many decades, and revolutionized many facets within the automobile industry.  Such as, the financial statement that all manufacturers require dealerships to do, he was the one that came up with it.  It's a very interesting book on things he did and his management style.  And since it's related to the car industry I'm completely fascinated by it.

Anyone else have big plans for today?  Shopping?  Putting away some more leftovers?

Leftover killing.  Had to get some Chinese food last night simply because I've been turkey'd out.

Orange Beef...yummy.  Also having it tonight, but as with most Chinese food places, the rice never lasts, so I'll make my own, and keep the extra rice to serve with fish or something tomorrow.

So how long should you keep turkey in the fridge before you freeze it?  I've always heard 2-3 days.

Assembling the first of the new dining room chair set today. After paying more for a set of freaking chairs than our first car cost us. Made in China. The last ones were made in the Phillipines by 3rd world workers who could at least be bothered to ASSEMBLE the overpriced crap they were foisting on the American consumer.

I think the family is going to be going to a Museum today but I'm not sure yet.  We are trying to iron out details for a weekend at a waterpark resort next week as well.  My wife is a grumpus right now. I may be a little bit as well. :-)

I should dust off some shooting irons and go to the range today.

4-5 days max depending on how you store it.

We invested in one of those vacuum sealers a few years back and the night we cook a turkey we bag and seal the bulk of it for the chest freezer and leave out a bit for sammiches and leftover dinners.

The frozen sealed stuff lasts a LONG time. I have pulled two year old packets out and defrosted them and they have been perfect.

The dining room furniture I want is from Haverty's and for a table chair & hutch it's $2000.  They're already put together, no assembly required.

I dodged a bullet by promising to refinish the dining room table this spring otherwise I would be swearing about assembling a new table as well. :-)

LOL!  I've just decided I don't like my table anymore.  It's nice, a glass 42" top with a metal base and two chairs.  But I'm just tired of it now and want something different. Plus the hutch would be nice to store my dishes in.  My kitchen is so small, that would free up a lot of space in there for food and stuff.  :)

Yeah, I have big plans.

It will involve changing the sheets in the morning.

But first, I have to spend the day at work, take her to dinner, then a movie...

I am having some accent walls painted on the first floor...I love the colors....My painter was here at 8:30am...Tonight, I will be putting up the christmas tree and decorating the house for the season.

Tomorrow, I will probably put the lights outside and clean the garage.....

This weekend is dedicated to the house so leaves the rest of the month open for parties and such....

I got a "honey, you don't have to work in the yard" yesterday....(checked to see if he had a temp :uhsure:) and so I went and got a pedicure, cruised through Dollar Tree and KMart....no lines! and we went to dinner. Doing stuff around here until later, then doing a bit of shopping...looking for decorations and finishing up secretary gifts...then going to dinner and watch the UT/KY ballgame.

I am actually cleaning  out my kitchen food cabinets.  :-) (Actually two deep drawers which I find are more useful for storage in a small kitchen than cupboard storage.) In the coming week I will be eating  up those things closing in on the use by date.

If I have time this evening I will be trying out my new Ped Egg which I finally found over here and bought because everyone was raving about it, if it doesn't work I expect  you all to have a whip round and refund me.  :rotf:

What are you giving to your secretary?  My boss is a cheap vindictive bitch and she didn't give a gift to our receptionists this year for administrative assistants day.  Apparently we all forgot that dumbass "Boss' Day" last year and that was her punishment.  The mean thing is that her withholding of gifts only effected the two sweet girls that work the front.

*BTW, I'm in an "I hate my idiot boss" phase right now.*

I have 2 secretaries, an office manager, and my immediate broker who used to be my secretary then office manager. They are all getting the same thing.....since it's easy and there are about 80 agents in my office - they will get alot. Plus we have money taken out of each commission check that at the end of the year is split between the 2 secretaries and the office manager.

I bought large gift bags, in them will go a tin of cocoa mix, a coffee mug that I'm going to put little candy canes and cinnamon sticks in, and I'm going to make bourbon pecan bread, spice tea mix, chocolate caramel lollipops, and a couple of other things....that I haven't decided exactly what. Maybe spiced pecans or Danish butter cookies or mini brownie cupcakes.

It should end up at most, $20 a bag. Found the bags and cocoa at Big Lots, the mugs were $1 at Dollar Tree.....I found 4 different colors of just a plain mug with snow flakes on it, so it isn't really Christmas-y. One of my secretaries is Jewish, so  her bag is blue and silver with an ice skate on it, and her mug is the same color of blue. Dollar Tree had Reynolds Clear Wrap....the self sticky stuff like Glad has...in green and blue(also other colors). I'm going to wrap the stuff that needs to be in green for everyone but Ana and I will do hers in blue.

I'm making cream cheese coffee cakes in the shape of candy canes and decorated, for close friends for Christmas morning. Found aluminum cookie sheets to put them on at Dollar Tree 2/$1 and will wrap them in the green cling wrap too. Plus they will be here for Christmas Eve dinner.

I'm working on the theory of "gifts from the heart" this year.

I love my Ped-Egg.  I even bought one for my husband.  You just have to be careful that you don't overdo it because that does hurt later on.  I have really yucky dried feet, too.

Great idea Deb. I love to get gifts that people have put thought into, they are so much more personal. :)

Wow, that's really great Deb!

I'm cheap.  The year I gave gifts to all the women (and it was only 5 gifts that I had to do) I spent $5 on the gift and another dollar or two for the bags/tissue paper.  I did a couple of little holiday scented candles and a candle plate that year.

The year before last we just did a white elephant gift exchange, and last year we didn't do anything (could have been b/c of that "Boss' Day" punishment LOL).

I enjoy making gifts for people, but I think I've already given everyone a hat/scarf set already in years past.  LOL

I've never had that problem Bijou. Oh but I would say to do it outside or over a trashcan.  Even though it says it'll hold all the "shavings" it does seem to still spew them out.

It's basically a cheese grater for your skin so you need to go in stages and evaluate.  It's possible to get a little raw if you go willy nilly.

I actually have 2 great bosses, my manager and the director of the department, both women.
I always get them the same gift.  This year I bought them digital picture frames, more than I originally planned to spend, but they are worth it and more.

I used to have severe callouses on my heels. So bad, that they'd crack and split open and bleed. I finally got tired of that crap and took my belt sander with 60 grit sandpaper and went to work. (It was caused from going barefoot a lot, even in the snow and -10° F temps and some sort of fungal infection.) After a treatment of Lamisil (oral) and wearing shoes, my feet got all better. (I'm glad Uncle Sam picked up the tab on the Lamisil Oral!!!)

Just got home from work.   I've had about enough of this place.  I'm not taking the HOBET aptitude test to get into the radiologic sciences program at this college.  After spring, I'm leaving Savannah for good and going elsewhere to get my degree.  Too many criminals here, and they get away with shit (like my stalker, for example) with the police watching and not doing anything.  Facebook doesn't give a shit either.  He actually contacted THEM, and they let him join my CR group without my explicit permission (I'm an Admin for the group and I pick and choose who gets to join).   I'm going to repeatedly remove the bastard until Facebook has no choice but actually do something about him.  :hammer:

I'm going to sit here with my peppermint Oreos, and a glass of milk, and try to relax, but it's very difficult to do so at the moment.

Initial thoughts -- Production quality: Mini-series(ish) with obvious "dramatic" closeups.  Reminds me of 'The Stand' miniseries that had Gary Sinise it in (which was on earlier today).

Rating so far: C+

My entire weekend has been the suckage...I won't bore with details. Just know this ranks in the top 3 for worst Thanksgiving ever and we never really officially had dinner.  :thatsright: So, I am on the campaign of everyone WILL have a Merry Christmas, damnit! I have a fire under the collective lazy asses who did nothing during the buildup to the non Thanksgiving, to get the house festive. Anyway, I'm also getting sick, again and this time it's moving to the chest which means working out will once again be thwarted for probably a week or so.  :banghead: Ugh...just a crappy end to the year I guess...I really had hoped for better. :p

Bingo. Right in my back yard (I live in the sticks where it's perfectly legal to bust a few caps).

One hundred rounds of .45 ACP, 10 rounds of 12 gauge, and 50 rounds of .22 LR later, I feel better now.

Honestly, it's not a party.  She's said some very hurtful things to me, and she's so drunk she doesn't remember that she's said it.  I don't usually spend time with her if she's drinking.  I left Thursday when she was getting tipsy.

OH...I am sorry...my dad was like that when he was younger....so I know how you feel...I try not to revisit those moments nowadays......but now he's become a happy drunk...at least in company.

What?!?  You have a stalker and he stalks you on Facebook?  That really, really sucks.  Are you able to keep yourself safe?

Right now, yes.  I keep my front door locked at all times, and my bedroom door locked also when I'm here.  I have friends living in nearby apartments also, so they keep an eye out if he starts wandering around, trying to identify my building given where I parked my car.

For the past couple of days, my Facebook activity has dropped to zero and according to my Yahoo e-mail (where FB message alerts go), he hasn't attempted to rejoin.  I'm crossing my fingers that there are no more attempts, after I sent a very stern response to his request.

Sorry for that jty.... Christmas will be better if only because everyone here will make it so. :)

I may call my dad and tell him to forget buying that tv for Christmas and send him the link to the gun I want.

They are always having gun shows in the Shreveport area (billboards everywhere), so I'm hoping he might be able to find one there for $500 or so.

There's a gun show at the fairgrounds at least once a month.  They're like traveling carnies... they always come back.

Oh, I will.

I would share a link to the specific gun with y'all, but the Smith & Wesson website isn't working for me right now.   :banghead:

Remind him that you'll be safer with it  :-)

Actually, can you even possess a firearm where you're at?  In many states, university grounds and dorms are firearm free zones.   :thatsright:
No, we can't.  :bird:

I might move off campus, given my situation.  Last I recall, there was a student who was actually challenging the college on this issue, and is still at it.  I know exactly who he is, because he makes himself a little too obvious in his black Audi TT with NRA stickers all over the place.  :lmao:

Is it a school thingy or a state thingy though?  A college lad driving a Audi TT... someone's spoiled  :uhsure:

It's a state thing.

He paid for that car himself... it was used when he got it.

PS: You basically just called a die-hard conservative a liberal with that "spoiled" remark... I will be informing him of that slur.  :p
