Title: Happy Twosday Evening!
Post by: asdf2231 on November 25, 2008, 07:05:43 AM
This is madness.

It is 17 degrees with the wind chill this morning.  If ANYONE mentions global warming to me this winter I'm going to (To borrow a phrase from one of Dixie's relatives) punch them in the cooter bone.

I am actually going to endure Good Morning America to see Morning Angel in her segment today. God help me.

The wife is sleeping in and the little critters are finishing up breakfast and getting ready for school.

The Thanksgiving turkey is defrosting nicely in the fridge and I'm gonna go get the few remaining things from the grocery store today.

Ahh... And the dealership called last night and my wife's car just needed a computer setting adjusted to deal with the crappy gas that has come into being since she bought it. (Computer controlled throttle problem) At 200$ it is a pretty cheap disaster as far as these things go.

Dress warm chilluns.  It's COLD out there today! :)

Not as cold as it had been, much to the dismay of the children.  If it had been like last week, all the rai nwe got over the past 24 hours would have been snow, and they would still be in bed right now instead of at school.

Decluttering and kitchen cleaning is on the agenda today, and at some point I need to balance the checkbook and pay bills...yippee.

Still not sure if company is arriving tommorrow or Thursday.

I must be pmsing, because I'm in quite the bitchy mood for no reason. :maddernhell:

It's 17 degrees F out here in the Sandhills of Nebraska, but I haven't noticed any wind.

I'm taking the motor vehicle in to find out exactly what's wrong with it.

Then no plans, no work, until tomorrow (Wednesday), which should be a pretty full day.

Gustav, the ancient once-broken cat, finally showed up after another three and a half weeks of being absent.  He's protesting some, because after he came in to eat (last night) and having to spend all night inside the house, I won't let him out.

I'll let him out when it bleeds my heart, but I'm trying to "acclimatize" him into being an inside cat during the winter.  I'll probably let him out within the next few hours.  But I want him to get used to being inside.  During the spring, summer, and autumn, he's free to be out as much as he wishes, but damn it, during the winter I need him inside more often.

Actually, it's warmed up a bit...from 20 yesterday to 40 this morning.  But with that goodness comes the badness that is heavy rain and 35-50 mph winds.  Nothing like a brisk November Nor'easter to say, "Welcome to New England, asshole!"

Working inside this morning, thankfully.  Ladders don't like going up and down stairs for some reason.

It's gonna get to a nice 70 today.

I'm running the AR statements today a day early.  Blah.

Tonight I'm hitting up Albertson's to pick up a fruit tray for tomorrow and the ingredients to make Green Stuff for Thursday.

Also, I talked to my boss and got Dec 19th off of work so I can go visit my grandpa next month.  He got his FEMA trailer a week or so ago, and has already been asking when I was going to come visit.  It'll be nice to see him, but it's going to be overall kinda sad seeing all the damage from Ike.

I am finally getting to go to the endodontist tomorrow......Yea!!  I've been waiting to see her since last friday.  She has been booked up but she fit me in....at 7:45 in the morning, all the way in Frisco.  It's about 25 miles from my house and with the morning traffic I'll have to leave an hour before.  My husband offered to take me but he scheduled his car to get the oil changed and a few other things at the dealership  at 7:00 am that morning all the way in Plano (which is about the same distance as Frisco from where I live).  I think I'm going to take him up on it.  I have never been this excited to see an endodontist before (well I've only been to an endodontist one other time in my life).  After I switched antibiotics I could really feel the difference and my tooth and jaw feel so much better but I found out that if I needed a root canal that once I stop the antibiotics it will not only come back but come back worse and I don't want that to happen over Thanksgiving.

We are going to the in-laws for Thanksgiving (just outside of Tulsa around a town called Adair).  They invited my parents and my mom accepted which surprised the heck out of me.  It should be fun, especially if my tooth feels normal.

My daughter (the 15 year old) had to make a Latin food for one of her classes today.  They are suppose to do everything themselves and bring samples to school for the other kids to try.  So I decided I was going to let her do EVERYTHING (except shop for the ingredients).  She looked up recipes, picked the one she wanted.  She chose to make Brigadeiro.  Brigadeiro's are like a Brazilian version of a bon bon.  Here is a link to the recipe she used: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Brigadeiro/Detail.aspx

She rolled some of them in crushed up pecans, some in powdered sugar, some in sprinkles and some in Nestle's Quick (It looks all impressive but I told her not to tell them it is Nestles Quick  :p ).  I must say that they turned out great and were quite tasty.

Oh we have/had RATS in our attic.  We have a field behind us and for the past two years when it gets cold they have come into our attic.  I heard them scratching around in the walls for about two days before my husband went up there and put poison and traps.  The first day he did it he put a lot of poison up there and went back in the afternoon to see if any got caught in the traps.  There were none in the traps but ALL of the poison was gone.  That is when my husband said they had to be rats not mice.  I don't know why but the thought of mice in the attic seems so much better than rats.

For the next couple of days I heard the rat/rats run around and I was like DIE ALREADY YOU DIRTY MOTHER F*CKERS then I heard the trap go off in the gutter (my husband had put a couple in the gutters as well).  We got one.  I was so excited.  My husband said it was rather small for a rat but that it was a rat and not a mouse.  In the mean time my husband went hunting with some friends on saturday and I was scared of the rats.  Our dogs (especially Toby) were freaking out at this one rat in the wall.  He was on a chair in my room and just looking at this area on the wall.  It was fun for awhile watching the dogs going all crazy but then I was freaking out thinking "What if they chew though the sheet rock and then come and get me......" :o  I  took an ambien as was able to sleep through the night.

I didn't really hear anything the following day.  Then sometime during the early morning hours I heard the snap of the trap again in the gutter.  The ****er was flipping all around, he was fighting it but then it went quiet.  In the morning my husband went out there and got the dirty little vermin.  He saw two areas where they could have gotten into the attic and when he is sure that they are all dead he will close them up.  He has to leave them open because when they are dying the poison makes them extremely thirsty so they come out and look for water.   They have to be able to get out of the attic or else they will die in there and reek.  :puke:

What is "green stuff"?  Does it involve cool whip?

Of course it does!  It's cool whip, cottage cheese, can of crushed pineapple (drained), package of lime jello powder and mini marshmallows all mixed up together.  It's deliciously campy.  We just always called it "green stuff" and my mom made it every year for Thanksgiving.

I don't just "do" green bean casserole for Thanksgiving, I make it year round.  I fact I made it last week when I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes.  My kids really like it.

I wouldn't call "green stuff" and "green bean casserole" really all that "domestic".  I am doing laundry right now and that is very domestic.

When I was in high school and it was just me and my dad, I made it during the year one time and he was like "this isn't Thanksgiving."  LOL!  I love the stuff.  I make it for myself year round.

Mmm...green stuff :cheersmate:

I guess I'm getting better :p I alternate between feeling really crappy and really energetic...seems to depend on when I pop an advil.  :uhsure: I have some homework to do :thatsright: Oldest has a dental appt at 5 :thatsright: and I still got a crap load of stuff to do around the house. At least one of the great ladies I work out with let me borrow those flexible cakepan thingies so I can decide if I like it before I buy it...woot!

Other than that...it's cold..the usual :bird:

Oh and I'm pmsing too...other then my cold though and some assholish things said last night to me, I'm not feeling particularly bitchy at anyone so that's a nice change. I just like the holiday to be nice for the kids so tht keeps me focused on them.

I'm past the PMS stage of life....I'm sorry you all are in it this week....makes doing all the Turkey Day stuff with a smile a bit harder.....

I am doing a happy dance....I just got my hair cut off this morning.  :bouncy: got about 4 inches taken off.

Have to hit the store after while for the rest of the stuff I need to cook for Thursday. Figured I better eat first so that I buy what I'm supposed to....not everything in sight.

I used to make "green stuff" too. Instead of cottage cheese in it, it had crushed butter mints.....then put in cupcake pans and frozen. Served frozen....it was delicious.

Butter mints....that sounds so wrong.  But then I like Cool Whip so I apparently have no taste.

Take a picture of your hair cut and post it for us to see.

I thought that too about the butter mints....but it's not made as a jello salad.

1 large and 1 small can of crushed pineapple, don't drain.
1 large box of lime jello
1 box of butter mints (not the multicolored ones- get the real buttery ones)crush with a rolling pin
4 cups mini marshmallows.

Mix, cover, refrigerate for 2 hours.

Stir in a 12 oz container of Cool Whip.

Spoon into cupcake pan....I use cupcake liners.

Freeze overnight.

Serve frozen.......at Christmas time I put a dollop of whip cream of top with a candied red cherry.

It's a sweet dessert type thing. My kids loved them. they are also good for a bridal/baby shower.

Alright, I'm back home in Shreveport.  I had to make a run for it (thank God for Skylink) in Dallas, since the layover was so short.  I'm still out of breath.  :p   Beaux the Border Collie is all growed up, but still has that cute puppy face.  :-)

LSU flags and memorabilia all over this house.  My family's taking the Tigers' inability to perform a lot harder than I am.  :o

Guys, please keep my sister in your prayers.  While I was waiting for the Skylink train, my mom called.  My sis is showing signs of a miscarriage and has been hospitalized.   :(

She's just beyond 10 weeks.  I know its early, but after the first one, then the miracle that is Charlie (almost lost him too early on), and now this... it's even more painful. :(

She caught some sort of bug from another family member, which seems to be causing trouble for the baby.  We're hoping the doctors can do something like they did for Charlie.

I don't even remember. I wasn't at the hospital, so I never got all the details as to what they did, just that they saved Charlie.  I just know that my sis was already at the hospital for an ultrasound when the bleeding began and the doctors moved very quickly.

I just shoved a big semolina crust homemade Pizza into the oven. (Snausage, pepperoni, green peppers and tomatos)

I had fun with my missus earlier.  I sent her to the store and on the list I put "New England Half Rolled Upper Rib Roast (Deboned)" My daughter was in on the joke and stopped her from loading up the cart with one of everything that had part of the name in it. :-) She even encouraged Mom to find the butcher to ask about it.  :uhsure:

Kids are off school till Monday next.  We enjoyed a last day of kidless freedom here.  Went out and had a nice lunch together too.

I've been in a food coma since 11:30 this morning.  I ate at least one of everything, and then some.  (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/sick001.gif)

I was really hungry about 10:15 and noticed someone had brought in soup.  Hey, this is awesome!  Stuffing-flavored soup!  So I filled up a styrofoam cup and enjoyed myself.  I didn't realize that was the gravy I was drinking.

Hmmmmm...maybe now is a good time for finishing off my 70-proof Kahlua and milk.

And I will NOT keep my knees together OR keep my feet on the floor, thanks very much.  Yard is currently looking somewhat like Lake Winnipesaukee, and the retaining wall between the backyard and driveway looks (expectedly) like a waterfall.  Such is what happens when you've had sub-freezing temperatures for over a week and the first day you get ABOVE freezing, you get 3 inches of rain.

At least the culvert is in good shape.  Didn't get washed away like it did a couple of years ago.  That wasn't a fun day.

My mom and/or my grandmother always made a green concoction with carrots and celery in it. Topped with with a whipped cream, sour cream & lemon juice mixture concoction. Sounds nasty but was pretty good.
