FEMA warns of "possible" catastrophic Midwest earthquake - WTF?
Advertisements [?]
http://news.aol.com/article/us-warns-of-possible-catast...
We've known about the New Madrid fault for years now. We know that it's possible there could be a catastrophic earthquake in the region.
WHY THE **** IS THIS BEING TREATED AS BREAKING NEWS? Heck, why is this even really a news item?
What's next? FEMA going to tell us that there's a possibility of Miami getting hit by a Cat 5 hurricane? That it's possible that a tsunami could devastate the East Coast? Hell, why don't they just hire Michael Bay to be their spokesman?

7. If scientists have reason to believe that a disastrous quake is imminent, that's one thing
Is there any reason to believe that a serious Midwest quake is likely within the next few months or years? If so, let's have it. Let's prepare people, or at least try to evacuate as much as possible.
Otherwise, this is nothing more than fear-mongering. Which this administration does oh so well.

24. It they knew the big one was coming - they wouldn't tell us directly
Just as, if they knew an extinction level meteor event was coming - they wouldn't say a word and they would trash anyone who said otherwise

5. But most people DON'T know about the old fault line that sits
miles below New Madrid. Most people think of earthquakes happening along obvious fault lines of tectonic plates, not in the middle of the country. Most people are aware of the danger on the west coast, not so much (or at all) around St Louis.
It's prudent for this to be announced, otherwise, people will say there was no warning. If the newsies decide to treat it like "breaking news," well, that's because we're in a 24/7 era of news shows.

13. Translation for the tin-foil hatters:
The pentagon will be testing it's new earthquaking machine the Freedom Shakerâ„¢ next month in the midwest. Any ground shaking will be attributed to the New Madrid Fault. That is all.

14. If the Yellow stone Super Volcano blows, it's all over now baby blue. After the sun is blocked out
for years and the earth is thrown into a massive ice age, later on maybe the fungi will grow?
NEWSFLASH!
Yellowstone Caldera could blow any time!

:rotf: OOOOPS! When I first read that, I read it as mid-"EAST", meaning way the hell over yonder. I was thinking, "Pull the troops out and pray for the BIG ONE."
You kindda have a tendency to do that at my age.... :rotf:
...and when old hard of hearing folks repeat gossip....it gets better and better... :rotf:

The Midwest did experience our first earthquake in quite a while this year.
I assume it's breaking news because the FEMA report was just released.

safe except for hurricanes and whacky stories about kids

The two of you could come up here, even though this state is as blue as one gets. We only get the occasional nor'easter, but we're due for a hurricane.
