This completely reveals that The BarackStar! ran on a web of lies. He ran on one thing, and one thing only;
that his "judgment" was somehow superior to that of hillary (and mccain) because he opposed the war. first
of all, opposing the war when you are a state senator from urban chicago is a no-brainer . . .
but now, he appoints the exact same chick that he crucified on the primary trail to the top foreign policy post
in the nation?
it is an admission of incompetence, and an admission that he stole the primary from her.
"The Change We Believe In" is really "The Change We Are Deceived In".
If I was a hillaryite, I would be disgusted.

I give 30% odds -- on the one hand, if she is SoS, she can't run in 2012. OTOH, as SoS it would mean the fuhrer is ceding all foreign policy to the clintons, with no accountability back to him and the reichstag.
-
I wonder why she is doing this to be honest, what`s in it for her.
If she can be forced out then she is an average citizen again (I know, mean no political office).
-
well, ignoring FD's intermittent insanity :-), I would offer up that this isn't the point.
the POINT is that The BarackStar! is admittting that he isn't qualified to hold the
office that our shameless democracy has elected him to.
-
I think it's Hil-Air-E-Us! I was wondering what "hope" and "change we can believe in" meant and obviously it means recycling the Clinton administration and hoping nobody notices.

The Messiah is obviously not making the world in his own image.
perhaps that is because he doesn't HAVE an image. HE WAS A STATE SENATOR FOUR YEARS AGO!!

It should be interesting.
Carter was the most inept, just plain hammer headed person to be President in almost a century, followed by Bubba who lost Congress in two years but lucked out with the tech bubble.
O is both of them rolled up in a thinly veiled gangsta and fanatical idealog.
Not sure whether to be content to sit back and wait or to be scared shitless.

the danger is that the economy will spring back during his term in office, and that he will get credit for it.
THEN, we are in for true socialism

Oh, I don't think it will. Actually, I suspect the economy will be what he runs on for his second term - that he needs another term to finish what he has started. And then there is the issue of fuel cost --I can guarantee that there will be a sticker just like the one printed for GWB that reads "Average cost of gasoline when Obama took office - $1.XX" - when Obama "fixes" the economy, this figure is going to skyrocket. When he proceeds to fine energy sources he dislikes, it will climb even higher.
Then he will blame the Clinton's and the other Clinton administration retreads for it.

^spot on. Scary isn't it?
We ain't seen nothing yet.

I'm more bothered about the fact that she is not experienced enough for this seat...Her husband sucked at foreign affairs and he will her top advisor.
His cabinet room is starting to resemble Romper Room. A bunch of newbies running the greatest country in the world....We're on the decline if we don't elect conservatives back in 4 years.
-
clinton administration retreads. it's amazing; "hope and change" has become a "do-over" for a bunch of people that worked for a guy that never won a majority of the popular vote.
good luck with that, barry.

I disagree with a woman being Secretary of State and here's why...... Condi Rice hasn't accomplished all that much in her tenure. After some reflection, I think it's because she's a woman. Many countries look down on women, especially Muslim countries.

True, but she's an expert in Russia, not the Middle East.
And as far as what THEY think--who gives a rat's ass? Personally, I'll take a woman like Maggie Thatcher or Condi Rice every day and twice on Sunday before I even THINK about putting a ***** like Warren Christopher in the position again.

yeah, but condi has a couple of billion megatons of fireworks behind her. I think she has been effective, though. well, I think she has been an effective advocate of the bush foreign policy. how effective she has been behind the scenes is another story; we will have to wait for the tell-all books before we know that.

Hillary may not be the SOS, it might violate the Constitution.
Even if the vetting problems involving former president Bill Clinton's finances can be resolved, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton may face another roadblock on her way to the secretary of state's chair.
It's called the Constitution of the United States, specifically, Article One, Section Six, also known as the emoluments clause. ("Emoluments" means things like salaries.) It says that no member of Congress, during the term for which he was elected, shall be named to any office "the emoluments whereof shall have been increased during his term." This applies, we're advised, whether the member actually voted on the raises or not.
In Clinton's case, during her current term in the Senate, which began in January 2007, cabinet salaries were increased from $186,600 to $191,300. This situation has arisen before, most famously in the case called "The Saxbe Fix," but it involves a controversial, somewhat tortured reading of the Sacred Document.
That "fix" came in 1973, when President Nixon nominated Ohio Sen. William Saxbe (R) to be attorney general after the famed "Saturday Night Massacre" during the Watergate scandal. Saxbe was in the Senate in 1969 when the AG's pay was raised.

A lot is being made of her eminent qualification for the position, but I am not so sure. She undoubtedly is mentally tough enough for it, and nobody deserves her abusive leadership style than State, but he actual knowledge and experience in real foreign affairs (as opposed just attending banquets in her honor) is pretty abysmal.

I could never tell if Warren Christopher had just eaten an unripe persimmon or had just farted.
You can throw Golda Meir in that bunch, too. Truly powerful women who know how to get shit done. We shouldn't forget that Condi is in a lame duck administration and has been for about a year now. George sure knows how to take it easy down the stretch.....

I wasn't dealing with the actual issue of her qualifications; I was simply pointing out that this is a staggering indictment of Obama's entire campaign platform.
and after he walks away from troop withdrawal in iraq, he officially becomes an empty suit. his entire campaign is a sham and a fraud.

WE, I understand your point thoroughly and don't disagree.
However, this is something that the spin doctors can and will address with just a few softball questions from Chris Matthews and Katie Couric during intimate and exclusive interviews with The Exalted One after he throws Hillary under the bus.
Take two-three minutes tops.

Actually I wasn't commenting on your points, I was just throwing in my own two cents worth on all the pundits jisming all over themselves about what a fantastic choice she'd be. I agree with your points above. I find her to be a 'fantastic choice' only by comparison to the brain-fried weirdos and ass-kisser functionaries he might have picked, or might still pick if he does not meet some terms about direct access to him, bypassing gatekeepers like Rahm or any members of the National Security Council/National Command Authority first, which she is rumored to have has laid down.
-
Nah, he's picking so many Clinton retreads because he KNOWS he doesn't have the experience, and has to rely on the Clintonistas to pull his ass out of the fire if he even wants a remote chance at reelection in 2012. This also removes Hillary from the presidential equation in 2012 as well.
A shrewd move, but one that could backfire on the Clintons, Obama, and the Dems in general quite badly if anything goes wrong and it isn't handled well. The firefight between the White House and Foggy Bottom will look like the First Battle of Bull Run, with BOTH sides playing the Union. And, like the battle, the genteel Washington society which went to witness the carnage will be RUNNING from the battle, horrified by what they have just witnessed.
Bottom line--it's a battle neither Obama nor Clinton can win, but that's not going to stop them from trying.

ok, so we all agree that he has officially abandoned everything that he spent two years running on . . . and this is the guy who's campaign slogan was "change we believe in" . . . and no one but me thinks this would be funny if it wasn't so tragic?

Yes on the first one. As for the second, I can't speak for the rest, but in the long tradition of gallows humor, I can find it funny and tragic at the same time.

I discover today that not only are Obama & Cheney related, but BOTH of them are related to Bush...

I was about to post the same story from the Volokh Conspiracy (http://volokh.com/archives/archive_2008_11_23-2008_11_29.shtml#1227548910). That's what I get for working during the day with no internets access.

Ordinarily I'd disagree that a woman can't do an important job, but think you're on to something with this comment. Condi is, in my humble opinion, a much more accomplished person than Hillary and had more credentials for the position. Hillary visited all the countries that the loyalists talk about, but as a first lady. That has nothing to do with being SOS.
The Muslim countries will treat her as they do all women. It's a scary time for the US.

It is not without precedent,Clinton did the same in 1992.
Worst economy in 50 years,he had an economic plan that all the economists said would work and so on.
He got elected and they immedietly forgot all that and started formulating a new deal style program which eliminated the middle class tax cut and proposed a minor "stimulus" package which was a jobs bill.
That got rejected by a dem Congress and Lloyd Benson was never heard from again at Treasury as they had made it his horse to ride.
Everything that is past comes around again.
