WASHINGTON -- Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed during a speech Thursday night and lost consciousness, a Justice Department official said.
Mukasey was 15 to 20 minutes into his speech about the Bush administration's successes in combatting terrorism when he began slurring his words. He collapsed and lost consciousness, said O'Conner, the department's No. 3 official. It was unclear whether he regained consciousness.

Wow. That is not good news. Slurring could indicate a stroke.
Hope he comes out okay. :(

That's the first thing I thought of too. Sounds very serious.

I haven't looked. I'm sure the drums are warming up as we speak.

Here's an update from 11/21:
U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey is ``very active, very alert'' and eager to be released from a hospital today after a fainting spell that caused him to collapse while giving a speech last night in Washington, a spokeswoman said.
Mukasey, 67, spent the night at George Washington University Hospital and has a ``clean bill of health'' after a series of tests, Justice Department spokeswoman Gina Talamona told reporters. ``There's no indication that he suffered a stroke or any heart-related incident'' and could soon be released, she said. ``It really appears to be a fainting spell.''
He is ``really ready to leave'' the hospital, she said. ``Doctors have described him as fit.''
Mukasey is anxious to return to the Justice Department and complete his tour of duty as attorney general in the final weeks of the Bush administration, Talamona said. ``He is ready to sprint to finish the race,'' she said.
