President-elect Barack Obama's top choice to lead the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, according to several media reports, citing unnamed Democratic officials.
Obama also selected billionaire Chicago businesswoman Penny Pritzker as commerce secretary, CNN reported on Wednesday night.
Gov. Napolitano, whose handling of immigration issues brought her praise from fellow governors, was an early supporter and campaigner for Obama's presidential campaign and was reported to be on a short list of people to fill cabinet posts in the new administration.
Napolitano, 50, was re-elected to a second four-year term in 2006 as governor of Arizona, the home state of Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee in the race against Obama.
The governor's spokeswoman, Jeanine L'Ecuyer, would not comment on the reports.
"She's not looking for another job, and the president-elect will announce his Cabinet selection when he's ready to do that," L'Ecuyer, said.
Democratic officials said Napolitano has not been officially offered the job but is likely to be named and to accept, pending vetting.

I'm assuming the appointment of the billionaire to Commerce doesn't meet the primitives' approval either.

When border security in our state was a big issue (still is, but not talked about so hotly anymore), the governor kept saying, "It's a federal issue! Not a state issue! I'm not going to do anything for that reason."
Now she'll have to make a decision. It will probably be a bad decision for our country but I'm glad that she will be forced to take a stand on something finally instead of deflecting the tough issue to save face.
And on a side note, when Napolitano leaves, Jan Brewer, a decent Republican, gets to step in as the governor for two years, giving Republicans full control in Arizona.

I think that is pretty much a given under Obama, the name of the Cabinet member he uses as an instrument to accomplish it is pretty incidental.

I guess that I pretty much agree.....however the HS job deals with a hell of a lot of more critical issues than illegals.......I shudder to think of this clown being in charge of the security of the nation.....exactly what background does she bring to the table other than ideology?
