Title: GENIUS, THY NAME IS OBAMA
Post by: TheSarge on November 20, 2008, 05:49:11 AM
With Time magazine comparing Obama to Jesus, I guess we should be relieved that, this week, liberals are only comparing him to Abraham Lincoln.

The one thing every liberal on TV seems to know about Lincoln is that he put rivals in his cabinet, as subtly indicated in the title to historian and plagiarist Doris Kearns Goodwin's book: "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln." Like Lincoln, Goodwin is always open to contributions from her rivals, although Lincoln was better at crediting their words.

And hasn't Obama talked to former rival Hillary about becoming his secretary of state? Hasn't he had a sit-down with Sen. John McCain? Did I imagine this, or is he even now brokering peace talks between Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck?

Ergo: Obama is a genius.

Indeed, historians have just named Obama the best president-elect ever.

I don't recall the media swooning when President George W. Bush reached out to rivals, such as Sen. Teddy Kennedy, who was asked to co-write Bush's education bill. In fact, the way I remember it, Bush is liberals' most hated president ever (only because they can't remember George Washington or they'd hate him, too).

And yet no modern president has ever done more to bridge partisan divides and show respect to his opponents than George W. Bush. I do not say this with admiration; it is simply a fact.

It probably isn't a good idea to compare Obama with Lincoln. The Great Emancipator thought the slaves would never be accepted in American society and thought it would be best for them to go back to Africa.

By the way, Time magazine, which has featured the Big Zero 17 times (out of 46 weekly issues) on its cover this year, had massive layoffs yesterday (Wednesday).

Really big layoffs, due to declining circulation, declining news-stand sales, and declining advertising revenues.

Once the greatest weekly newsmagazine in the world under Henry R. Luce, the magazine is a parody now, and a rather bad one at that.

Time forgot its roots that made it great.

It's very sad.

But it's their own fault, trying to be a Big Zero fan magazine in a market already grossly surfeited with other Big Zero fan magazines.  Consumers can buy only so many Big Zero fan magazines.

Better had it been, if Time had offered something unique, something unusual, something rare, to the reading public.....like being what it once was, Republican and conservative.

And the sad thing about it Frank is that they won't see the real reason for their decline staring at them in the mirror.

"TIME"...I don't even read'em at the doctor's office anymore.

If it's an issue before 1965, it's worth reading.

After 1965, when Hedley Donavin took it over and hippieized it, not.

Team of Rivals was really an excellent read, however using it as a basis to compare Obama to Lincoln is quite misplaced, the progression of their political careers (based on Obama's so far) has been quite different.  Lincoln did not win the 1860 nomination in a protracted knock-down, drag-out superfinanced power play, but as the 'least-unacceptable' alternative to deadlocked partisan factions in the party at the convention, once it became clear that none of the factions were going to let one of th other three get their man on the top of the ticket...and Lincoln was that man because he had "Taken one for the team" with great good grace and no recriminations in 1856.  His accession to the 1860 nomination had virtually NOTHING in common with the kind of big money, big machine politics that got Obama the nomination and election.

Oh my -- The liberals laughed for months at the photoshopped Bush version of this picture - I wonder what they think of their humor now ?

They need to go back to their roots and cover Bat Boy and the UFO stories that Obama voters actually care about.

Hasn't been the same since Ed Anger left.

Lincoln grew up poor , dirt farmer in rural Kentuckey, tought himself to read/write'

Obama brought up in Hawaii where he attended an exclusive Prepatiory School.

See they are the same!

Lincoln put himself thru Law education , self tought lawyer, served in the Milita during the Black Hwak War did extensive physical labor to make his way up in life. BOOTSTRAPPED it all the way.

Obama did drugs, never had a job where making his own way was ever an issue, never served a SECOND (EVEN IN JA PRO BONO) went to an Ivy League College on someone elses dime.

Yes indeed, JUST LIKE LINCOLN, can't you see the similarities?   :banghead:  :censored: :thatsright: :hammer:.

the "team of rivals" comparison to lincoln's cabinet is just ridiculous.  doris kearns goodwin should stick to baseball, which is something that she seems to know something about.  lincoln succeeded despite his cabinet, not because of it.
