In the past several weeks, at least seven Florida teachers have been convicted or pleaded guilty or no contest to sex crimes involving students. They are among a rising number of teachers accused of sexual misconduct. What's behind a disturbing trend? A12

Jennifer Tarkenton Nero
This former teacher, 35, at Greenwood Lakes Middle School in Lake Mary was charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery. She was found in a car last year with a 14-year-old student. She pleaded no contest to a reduced charge Oct.1 and was sentenced to five years' probation.

Fred Standifer Jr.
A former girls-basketball coach at Lake Region High in Polk County, Standifer, 49, was found guilty of two counts of child abuse on Nov.7 and sentenced to 10years' probation. He had been accused of demanding, in a locked room, that one student pull down her shorts and have sex with him, according to arrest records. Another girl told investigators he repeatedly grabbed her buttocks.

Brian Michael Lane
Lane, 30, a former preschool teacher in Pasco County, was sentenced to 20years in prison Nov.6. He had been accused of fondling a 4-year-old boy during nap time and also performing a sex act on a 10-year-old boy, a sheriff's official said.

Damn those draconian morality laws!  It's nobody's business what two consenting sexually active people over the age of puberty do.  Damn them!  

We need a Freedom Of Sex Act!
