Post by: Uhhuh35 on November 16, 2008, 05:09:44 PM
In anticipation of the biggest shopping day of the year (although I don't know about this year):

Enjoy!  :-)

Thanks for the link.  I'll pass it on.  Me, I'd rather have a root canal than put myself through that torture.  I don't mind receiving the gifts from the days purchase, though.

I certainly don't mind getting the gifts, either.  Last year, my stepdad went out to a rural WalMart next to the UPS Store he and my mom owned.  Found 2 Garmin Street Pilot C330 gps systems for $125 each (compared to the average $300+ price that model went for at the time). My sister and I were the recipients.  ;)

But this time, I may brave the madness if I can get my hands on that tv ($599 is CHEAP for a Sony Bravia, as my dad has one of the larger versions...cost about $1800).

Is that Sony a 720P or 1080P ?? If it's a 720P, there's your answer. 1080P seems to be the new industry standard.

yes, it is.  Just from experience with the one my dad has, I like it. I'm not that picky with tv's in regards to the screen.  At this point, I just need a tv for my apartment that's affordable and can fit on my dresser.    I'm also looking at a smaller LG (720p also), but I'm not seeing too many good deals with that one, though it's on sale at Best Buy:

LG 26 @ Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8939679&type=product&id=1215217075182&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=8939679)

It has to do with resolution, not just the screen. I'd recommend that you save your money and buy a 1080P. They will be on sale shortly.

I need a 26 or 32 (anything larger will not fit on the dresser OR in my car if I have to move... ), but those seem to be in short supply for the 1080p.

I hope that something in the specs I need is available by my birthday.  I would bring down my tv from home, but it's a big old Philips attached to all sorts of Nielsen Ratings equipment, so I'd like to get something soon so I can get paid again by Nielsen for my time (for their College program).   :uhsure: :lmao:

For a TV that size, you don't really need 1080.  You'd need to be within 4 feet or so to tell the difference...

This is the first time I've noticed that you're a conservative Republican college student.  You're setting a wonderful example for other students and you have my thanks.  H5!

Awww, thanks y'all.  I'll go off-topic briefly to say thanks.  My group is still recovering from the loss, but we're not going anywhere anytime soon.  :cheersmate: It seems we've got a lot more support among faculty than we realized (several biology and health professions professors have, before the election, asked me for McCain/Palin signs and stickers, but I didn't have anymore. :(  )

Woody, I definitely don't sit within 4 feet of a tv. :mental:  I prefer sitting on a couch, not on the floor (if I wanted to be that close to the tv, that's where I'd have to sit ) when I watch my favorite shows.  As I've said before, I'm still doing my research on various 32 and 26 inch LCD's, so it could be well into the new year before I get one.
