Title: Whatcha doing tonight?
Post by: asdf2231 on November 13, 2008, 06:34:10 PM
I am waiting for the dinner guests to arrive and tweaking food prep details.  i don't think our house has been this clean since before I went south for Gustav in August.  :p

Angus sirloin burgers, WI Brats in beer and some Nathans franks for the little beelers.  Various salads and some mac and cheese. Couple kinds o' veggies.  We are trying to keep it as relaxed and casual for these folks as possible.

What's up wit youse tonight?

Not doing much right now.  Picked up some new glasses today and went out for lunch.  Spent the rest of the day being as un-productive as possible.

Working, working, and working.  And hoping the Pats win, if only because I've got both Cassel and Moss starting in my FF league tonight.

Grabbing a smoke after dinner.  Kids are merrily tearing the place apart. Life is good. :)

Intermittently working....doing what I didn't get done today....cause I was helping a friend. Which is sometimes the more important thing to do.

I'm participating in a discussion group.  I say it's bedtime for all little girls who must get up early and be driven 50 miles to school in the morning.  Some disagree.

How did your dentist appointment go today?

I'm sitting here debating on if I am going to dilate my eye.  It is really strange, as it starts to wear off I can "feel" the difference and it seems like half my vision in my right eye is clear while the other half is still blurry.  Like split down the middle of my eye (when I have my left eye closed).  I want to have my regular vision back so bad and I know that if I wake up tomorrow and I don't dilate it tonight that my vision will be even better.  I know I HAVE to dilate it, doctors orders but damn I don't want to.

How did your dentist appointment go today?

It went well.  I like my new dentist.  He is an old guy (older than me!).  He has a great sense of humor, as does his assistant.  We laughed the whole time.

The doctor said he thinks he can save my two lower bicuspids, which is great news.  Lower dentures are the pits and they are twice as easy to live with if they have an anchor tooth or two to which they can be attached.  He said I will be miles ahead if I can keep my bicuspids a year or two.  I agree, according to my research.

All the preliminaries where done.  Impressions were made.  Cost was discussed ($2300 after insurance).

I haven't shopped around, so I don't know if I am getting the best "deal".  All I know is I was extremely comfortable with these folks.  That's got to be worth something.

What does the dilating do?

It keeps my iris from sticking to the lens.  The whole thing can actually stick to the lens (because of the inflammation) if you don't dilate it, then you are screwed.

I'd say go with who you are comfortable with, that way you are sure to go back if you have any trouble.  If you can't stand the dentist you might not go back if you have a complaint and that can turn into a bigger mess down the road.

ewww ick, ick.   :-)

I had eyedrops, but they were antibacterial to keep any infections from happening.  I understand your frustration about not being able to see.  I'm still having problems adjusting to my own situation.  I'm making an effort to keep my person-to-person collisions down; corners and elevators can be an issue, though.  I almost walked right into some guy carrying his Big Gulp and bucket of KFC.  It was embarassing.

But my mouth isn't nearly as serious as your eyes.  What's going on?  What is the plan?

The dilation drops bother me because they make my eye blurry but the more important reason I hate them is my eye looks fake because all you can see is one HUGE pupil and I am, as you know, very vain.  It is very obvious when you look at me because my other eye is normal.  The pred forte (steroid drops) in my eye every HOUR are the most annoying though.  Lately I have been slacking off on the every hour thing.  I hope I'm not going to be sorry....

I have no idea how much they cost.  A guy I work with lost a couple teeth after falling at work and had them replaced with implants.

Well your mouth does affect your health so it is important.

Well I am sick of putting drops in my eyes every hour and dilating my eye twice a day.  I am down to 10mg of prednisone and feeling MUCH better.  Peeing all the time because my body is probably getting rid of water retention from the prednisone.  Gained about 5 lbs, probably all water.  I must of peed it all out today, I think I will go weigh myself and see.

My rheumatologist called the other day with my results from my blood work.  Everything looked fine, my SED rate was even 13 (that is really good for those of you who don't know what a SED rate is, it measures inflammation in your body).  My next appointment with my Opthamologist is tuesday.  Hoping he wont see any cells floating around inside my eye and I can begin my two month (possibly longer) taper of the pred forte drops.

Googled the cost:

Quote
Basic dental implant pricing and fees range from $1,250 to $3,000 per tooth. However, if a patient requires additional things such as bone regeneration and sinus elevation, dental implants can increase from $15,000 to $30,000.

I laid in bed for almost two weeks straight because I couldn't be in the light (my bedroom is very dark), couldn't be on the computer or watch TV (did listen to it though, with the doors to my armour closed because of the light).  I took a shower in the dark and dried my hair as well in the dark.

I can always beat everyone with their sob story, don't even try.

I had a very bad dentist who messed up a 3 tooth bridge. I ended up getting implants for those 3 teeth. Between the specialist who inserted the post thingies and the dentist who fashioned the teeth, it was almost $10k, and insurance generally doesn't cover implants. At least mine didn't. I'm glad that's over.

I was very busy today at work.  I hit up the grocery store for some supplies.  I found out my Kroger was out of the frozen crawfish tails.  :(  I asked the guy at the seafood counter and he said someone else just asked about them a few days ago, so they'll probably order it again soon.

Anywho, so for dinner I made a butter cream sauce with shrimp (since no crawfish), rice, crescent rolls and for dessert (but I'm thinking really for breakfast) cinnamon rolls.  :)

Today was basically greyt. I had a product show at Busch Stadium today. I was able to go on a behind the scenes tour and sat in the Cards dugout.

On my way home I stopped at a local shopping center. I didn't realize they were having a little special event. My doc never has flu shots, so I always have to pay for them somewhere. I missed my appointment with the visiting nurses at my office.

I was overjoyed!! I saved $25. There were representatives from Missouri Baptist Hospital there. They were giving FREE flu shots. The nurse had her master's (was on her badge) and was GOOD. This was the easiest one I've ever had. How could it get better---a flu shot that didn't hurt and FREE.  :-)

Then there were tables with excellent little snacks, again free, and Whole Foods reps were there handing out those reusable bags with $25 worth of coupons in there.

It was a nice ending to the day. Well, not quite the end. SR and I went to Whole Foods and got his favorite salmon and spinach patties. We used one of the coupons, $5 off $25, very quickly. It doesn't take long to spend $25 at Whole Foods.

Oh honey do I????  I like this crawfish butter cream sauce, but it's rich.  I also have a recipe for crawfish pie.  I like crawfish etouffee, but I use a mix for that, not from scratch.  Crawfish stuffed chicken.  Mmmmmm, crawfish is good eating (don't let WE tell you otherwise).  :)

I've posted the butter cream sauce (oh and it's definitely not diet food) and crawfish pie in the recipe forum.

Be sure to try their JoJo's, if they have them.  They're the equivalent of Peppermint Oreos, and OH-SO-TASTY.  I have demanded that my mother send me at least 4 boxes for Christmas.  :p

My evening? Got off work, took a Messiah-supporting co-worker home from work (he made my car smell like cigarettes... :bawl: but I do it because I'm working on converting him  :evillaugh: ...No, he's really just a good friend, and he needed a ride).  Now, I'm relaxing.

Wow, you did have a good day, and might not have a sore arm tomorrow!

I have to go to Vegas this weekend to visit an eldery snow bird neighbor that slipped and fell on an ice cube at a resturant and broke her hip....she was not in the greatest health to start with, and this might be her last winter here in Nevada (they live in Utah) She is a very dear lady, and this has been very sad. She loves to play Bingo and is laying in a Vegas hospital instead.

While I am in Vegas I will either stop at Trader Joe's or visit a Whole Foods (would be my first time....I am a whole foods virgin) On top of that fact that at Trader Joes I like seeing all the hippie chicks that carry wallets and don't wear bras! It's like DU live!!!

I know a little about flu shots, more then I want to know...hosted two clinics in October, they went so well, we did it again on Tuesday of this week....alot of OLD crabby people!!!  They would show up two hours early for their appointment and then complain they have been there waiting for an hour!!!

OLD BASTARDS  :lmao:

Work brought in some people from a local pharmacy to give anyone that wanted one a free flu shot (well, the company had to pay).  I was an idiot that got it done on my right arm, I'm right handed, so I was suffering the next day.  *mental note:  next year do left arm*

I feel like an utter tool.

We borrowed a vacuum from someone because my Oreck was on the fritz and when I plugged in the spare one it didn't work.  I futzed with it and tried it in two different outlets and it was still dead. Later tonight I glance over at the phone base and none of the lights are on. Turns out during cleaning the little circut breaker on one of the outlets got the "Test" button pushed. So the vacuum was fine... I just tested it on two dead outlets.  :thatsright:

Dinner went well.  I hope the guy takes the job.

I go to Publix becuase it's the only place where people are nice to me.

I work hard in trying to make up for the fact that my Publix has blindly hired quite a few rude younger folks (younger than me, anyway) who are constantly receiving pay deductions due to their inability to deal with customers in a polite fashion (just found out a most infamous co-worker has lost over $1.00 per hour in the past year due to poor customer service skills.  She's constantly on her cellphone while on the clock, and the CS managers like to turn the other cheek, rather than do the right thing and terminate her.  ).  Others are not quite as rude, but I have had so many customers pull me aside and inform me of the rude and/or lazy baggers/cashiers they have encountered while shopping (I work for one department in the back of the store right now, but I also still work up front as well...helps to get more hours that way, plus its cross-training) that I'm trying to figure out the best way to approach management with these problems.  This week alone, I've had at least 5 complaints... apparently, I'm the type of person customers feel they can talk to without being judged, and that makes me feel somewhat better.

I'm always doing MY job, plus helping others with THEIR jobs, when they feel like not doing their duties (especially with bringing carts back into the store, now THAT is a story for another day.  :banghead: )

Sounds like you are doing a great job for them!

Keep up the good work. :cheersmate:

Putting the finishing touches on a 20-hour shift. Overall, not a bad day's work. 2 bad guys in jail, one on the run, and one to write a warrant for. Four search warrants executed in 3 different cities with 12 stolen motorcycles recovered. Now it's off to bed. Mrs. Tantal's working today and I'm on Kid Patrol. Gotta be up in 2 and a half hours to get them off to school.

Salmon and spinach patties...yum!!!

Well, it's no longer last night...we ate on the run since my oldest had basketball practice. That's all

Wow, that is a long day!

I hope you get some rest and thanks for helping keep our streets safe.

Omaha Steaks makes some awesome "gourmet" hot dogs.  I have no idea where they get them, but they are good.

I used Omaha Steaks for Christmas last year.  Sent my Dad a package that included filet mignon as well as other goodies and sent packages to a few other people.  They have not stopped calling me.  They are driving me nuts.   I have told them several times to take me off their list yet they still call....some times a couple times a day.  Now I just answer the phone and hang up with out saying hello.

(Eventhough I'm a day late), The wife and I picked up our pre-order of WoW, Wrath of the Lich King. (online game)
Spent most of the early evening nuking the house with ammonia and steam cleaning the carpets. We had to because ALL of the kittens we were fostering died from what they think was Parvo.
Finally, after about a hour of up loading and house cleaning in between, we were able to play the game. Hellava lot of fun! Blizzard, the maker of the game, really knows their chit, and everything loaded just fine. No bugs or problems. This is really rare if you consider the complexity of the game.

Can't wait till tonight. Gonna go make me a Death Knight.  :hyper:

Oh honey do I????  I like this crawfish butter cream sauce, but it's rich.  I also have a recipe for crawfish pie.  I like crawfish etouffee, but I use a mix for that, not from scratch.  Crawfish stuffed chicken.  Mmmmmm, crawfish is good eating (don't let WE tell you otherwise).  :)

I've posted the butter cream sauce (oh and it's definitely not diet food) and crawfish pie in the recipe forum.

Crawfish Pie (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,8788.0/highlight,crawfish.html)

Thanks so much. I'm going to try that pie this weekend. I've got everything but the pie crust and celery, so will stop at the store on the way home from work. I've got one of those frozen packages, not sure if it's quite a pound. If not, guess I'll augment the crawfish with some shrimp.

Question, the recipe calls for canned tomatoes. I presume you don't use the juice, just remove the tomatoes and dump the joice?

No, use the tomatoes and a little juice.  Watch the cayenne, you can accidentally make it a little too spicy.  The crawfish I buy is frozen and it's usually a pound of it.  And the refrigerated pie crusts make it so easy to do.

Sometimes you need to turn the heat up a little after you add the flour/water mix for it to thicken up.  It's a pretty fast recipe to make, it's just when you're waiting for the filling to cool that makes it take forever.

Thanks, I'm going to make it tomorrow. My sis and BIL and son are coming over for dinner. My sis is a pain sometimes and doesn't like anything new, so I might make 2 pies. 1 with the crayfish and 1 with shrimp. I know she'll eat the shrimp, but I want to taste that crayfish pie.

Will do. Drat, hadn't read the recipe carefully enough. Need to run out tomorrow and get another pack of pie crust for the 2 pies.

I usually just make a crumb crust myself, but that obviously wouldn't be right for this pie.

Do you have any tips for removing the one pie crust from the dish to use on the top? Is it best to do it while still frozen, then let it thaw, or when it's  warmer and almost thawed?

If you're using the Pillsbury refrigerated crusts, just follow what it says on the box.  I think you just let them get to room temperature, then unroll it and place the one on top.  I just serve everything still in the pie pan.

Made 2 pies, one with the crayfish and 1 with shrimp. I used less cayenne pepper in the shrimp pie. (my sis won't eat crayfish and doesn't like anything spicy). They both were so good and got rave reviews.

Many thanks
