Obama will act quickly on climate change: adviser
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama will act against climate change early in his presidency, an environment adviser said on Wednesday amid doubts that a U.S. carbon-capping program will be in place before 2010.
"The president-elect will move quickly on climate change," Jason Grumet, the Obama campaign's lead energy and environment adviser, told a conference on carbon trading.
Grumet, who has been mentioned as a possible choice for the new U.S. administration's energy secretary, told the group of business and policy-making specialists: "My suggestion to all of you is to enjoy the holiday season ... and rest up because I think it's going to be a very, very busy 2009."
He offered no specifics and answered no questions. He noted that the United States has "operated absent a federal climate policy, a federal climate program with mandatory elements, for many, many years now."
The United States is alone among major industrialized nations in rejecting the carbon-capping Kyoto Protocol, whose first phase runs out in 2012.
One deadline for crafting a follow-up international agreement is December 2009, when 190 nations plan to agree on a new climate deal in Copenhagen. But a U.S. senator and a climate change expert both expressed doubts there would be a U.S. cap-and-trade plan in place by then.

I miss "Global Warming".

I'm guessing this will fall into that "actions people aren't going to take well" box, when the repercussions of it become plain.

All part of the master plan to make the nationalization of 401Ks look like a good thing.
Freedom to make choices which one may profit from are a very bad thing to have in a public dependent, government controlled state.

In this case the ones who had to shut down all production to make sure the air was sort of clear enough to have the Olympics.

Assuming (and I don't) that humans are responsible for ALL the annual increase in atmospheric CO2, that would be THREE parts per million. The USA is down to generating less than hale the human caused CO2, China is not the top at over 50%.
So, if we reduce out CO2 PRODUCTION 40% OVER THE NEXT 20 YEARS , that's less than 1 ppm per year. Or, something on the order of total 10 ppm by 2028. Or, no change in reality. That is, IF tghe current increase rate really is human related, and that remains not proved.
lower solar activity has resulted in lower temp.s here on the ground. What a shock, turn the thermostat down, the home cools off! SHOCKING :thatsright:.
Nothing we do will alter the 3,000,000 year old ice age we've been all these millenia.

Liberals need to stop exhaling to save the planet. :fuelfire: :-)
I guess he'll start by bankrupting the entire coal industry first, then move on to eeeeevil oil companies. If he could figger a way to bankrupt the sun he'd probably do that too. Instead he'll probably demand a solar tax.

Oh, and WATER VAPOR accounts for 90% of the greenhouse effect. Is THAT a polutant too? And as the earth's surface is 70% water, how will the senile 5 deal with water vapor?
What shall we do, what shall we do?! :sarcasm:

I'm not so sure, a lot of the impact has to have already been discounted by any trader who isn't a complete idiot; bringing us closer to Kyoto was in the cards even with McCain (another reason Conservatives were underwhelmed by him).

I think there might be some smaller investors that haven't realized how damaging Der Fuhrer's policies will be to the economy.
