McCain defends Palin in post-election TV interview
By Steve Gorman

[excerpt]

Former U.S. presidential candidate John McCain on Tuesday shrugged off criticism leveled at his running mate, Sarah Palin, saying he expects her "to play a big role in the future of this country."

The Republican senator from Arizona rallied to the defense of his vice presidential pick in an appearance on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," his first television interview since losing his White House bid to Democrat Barack Obama a week earlier.

Asked by Leno about commentary from pundits across the political spectrum who judged the Alaska governor to be a drag on the Republican ticket, McCain, 72, denied she had hurt his campaign.

"I'm so proud of her and very grateful that she agreed to run with me. She inspired people. She still does," McCain said. "I couldn't be happier with Sarah Palin, and she's gone back to be a great governor, and I think she will play a big role in the future of this country."

Palin, virtually unknown outside her home state before McCain tapped her as his running mate in late August, in recent interviews has left open the possibility she may seek higher office.

I know it's just the Tonight Show, but it's something.  John McCain is on record defending his running mate, dismissing her anonymous critics.  Good.  About freaking time.   ::)

I don't agree with the notion Sarah Palin is done because the left can dish dirt on her.  The left will dish dirt on anyone.  Jesus could run on our ticket and the left will say his turning water into alcohol raises disturbing questions along with the dead.  I don't believe this silly bullshit with the wardrobe and the state trooper will handcuff Sarah Palin after four years of President Marx.

In an appearance on the Tonight Show last night, Sen. John McCain said Gov. Sarah Palin was a boon to his campaign, despite a number of harsh anonymous stories allegedly from his campaign staff. McCain said, "I'm so proud of her and I'm very grateful she agreed to run with me. She inspired people, she still does," adding, "I couldn't be happier with Sarah Palin." The Politico adds, "In keeping with the Veteran's Day creed of remaining a 'good soldier,' McCain refused to place any blame for his loss on Palin and offered several familiar refrains about his running mate and the campaign." The Washington Post reports, "Asked by host Jay Leno about criticism of Palin by unnamed McCain campaign aides, McCain suggested that such carping amounted to sour grapes from people claiming to be campaign insiders. 'I think I have at least a thousand, quote, "top advisers,"' he said." The New York Post reports that McCain "took full responsibility for the campaign's failure, saying, 'The one thing Americans don't want is a sore loser.'"

The New York Times says McCain also "praised President-elect Barack Obama as inspiring 'millions of young people' and echoed the call for unity from his concession speech: 'Now it's time for America to join together and support the man who was just elected president.'"

Strikes me as too damned little, too damned late.  Outside the general charge made by his limp-dick lackeys that she had "hurt his campaign", he hasn't rebuked any of the asshats that went after her with the long knives, he doesn't refute any of the wild assed charges they made about her; he leaves all of them hanging out there, and actually lends credence to them with his very "Political" wording.

Asshole needs to back the **** off the *******ed stage!  :bird:

D6, jeez, the man is 72 for Chrissake! He ran outta Geritol after the election and by the time he found his stash of Depends, he'd shit all over himself. It took him this long to get cleaned up!

He's probably okay now. Nap time is now equal to regular sleep time. So now it's time to ride to Sarah's rescue.
