1. The crab legs you find in the case at the supermarket are precooked. The red color is a giveaway.

All you need to do is warm them enough to heat them through. Or just serve them cold in salads.

You can steam them, bake them, nuke them or whatever. Just wait until you can smell them and they're done.

4. Melted butter?

Just zip through any of the crabmeat recipes online and find one you like.

Crab with plain ole melted butter just can't be beat.

Maybe 350-ish oven.

Maybe 10 or 15 minutes. All you need to do is get them hot cuz they're fully cooked before being frozen.

We serve them just with melted butter and a little lemon.

No need for any additional seasonings, in my view. The crab itself is a wonderful, wonderful taste all on its own.

They taste no more alike than shrimp and lobster.

9. Actually, that's a great idea! 

We do lobster on the grill for the same reason. A little char on the shell gets right into the meat in a very pleasant way.

I don't know where the primitives get their crab legs (King), but the ones here are flash frozen..........................raw. Dungeness is pre cooked.

You know, this is going to sound like a really stupid question, but remember where I live, 1500 miles away from any ocean, and also that I don't eat dead fish.

Why would one eat only crab legs, and not the whole crab?

It's sort of like taking a chicken and eating just the legs.

Blue crabs....which are on the Atlantic coast....are steamed or fried and essentially the whole body can be eaten. They must be a certain size to be kept.

King Crab is on the Pacific coast ....and can usually only be bought as the legs. I don't think I've ever seen King Crab claws, or the few times I've been on the west coast where I saw them prior to cooking, I don't remember noticing anything but the legs.

Florida Stone crab ....all you eat is the claws. The crabbers harvest only one claw from the crab and throw the crab back in the water, where the little darlin' so conveniently regenerates that claw. If there is only one claw on the crab in the trap....it's supposed to be thrown back to freedom. Claw must also be a certain size before it can be removed from the crab.

All 3 taste different from each other.

Well, my objection to crab's legs isn't necessary the fishy nature of the food, but more so towards the primitives wasting food while so many in the world go hungry.

I have no criticism to offer decent and civilized people who dine on crab's legs; if anyone here were a houseguest of mine, and wished crab's legs, I'd happily supply them.  Decent and civilized people do not wear "virtue" on their sleeves.

The primitives on the other hand make a big deal out of being "socially conscious" and "caring" towards those who have less.  And so the primitives have to be judged by a higher standard, a higher standard the primitives themselves have set.

By dining only on the crab's legs, the primitives betray two hypocrisies: (a) the primitives are happy dining on fine cuisine while much of the rest of the world has to dine on whatever it can scavenge, and (b) the primitives do not feel badly about wasting 90% of the available food, eating only the legs and not the rest of the crab.

It's sort of like what happened to the bison of the Great Plains during the 1880s and 1890s, giant magnificent beasts slaughtered simply for their heart or liver, the rest of them going to decay and rot.

Is it possible to be more hypocritical than a primitive on Skins's island?

I wonder.

I think the only thing left is guts.  There's nothing else besides the legs.  I could be wrong, I've only done live, whole crabs once and they were small.

Yup. With King Crab thats the only thing worth eating, and you can get the claws. I think I actually prefer King Crab to lobster. To me the meat is sweeter. When it's in season it's actually cheaper than beef.
The crabs here (Cali) are usually reds or blues which look like Dungeness but are smaller. You can catch them off the rocks with sardines for bait, like we were doing in this pic:

Yes you can use a fishing rod. There's a device which is a bunch of loops of plastic twine with a small "cage" in the middle for bait. The crabs get caught in the twine and you pull em' up.
