Title: Wednesday, and world coated with ice
Post by: franksolich on November 12, 2008, 06:48:08 AM
It's Wednesday, and the world outside--at least in the Sandhills of Nebraska--is coated with ice.  But as temperatures are expected to soar into the 40s today, and be that way for several days, and as the winds are high, the ice won't last long.

I'm battling a cold, which hinders the comprehension.  I can't write anything worth a damn when I have a cold.

How is your day going, or planning to go?

Chilly here this morning, but supposed to hit 50 or so later, so not a bad day.

I think I am going to try to clean and organize my food pantry and cabinets this morning, so I can make a good list and go grocery shopping later.  The kids have "helped" putting groceries away lately, and now I can't find a darn thing!

Parent/Teacher conferences for my 13 yr old tonight....they schedules a whole 5 minutes with the 2 teachers I requested to see. :whatever:

But that's better than my 8 yr old's class.  I requested a conference with his teacher, and got a note back that all her conference times were full, and since he was doing well (I know he's doing well, I"m concernced he's doing TOO well!), she didn't need to see me.  I can call if I want to talk to her. :whatever:

Not much else on the agenda today, just putzing.

I would not wish my day on anyone...not even a DUmmie.

:( Hope things get better, lug-nut.

I'm really dragging this morning. My sister and I played racquetball yesterday evening and we were more competitive than usual. My body is not pleased with me this morning as a result and I feel really old today. I could have stayed in bed until noon.

But I'm up, sipping a large cup of Einstein Bros. Vanilla Hazelnut coffee and gnoshing on a toasted asiago bagel with shmear.

Killer, killer cold that is kicking my arse.   My oldest son has developed a serious seizure disorder and started meds for that last night which have concerning side affects.    I have been googling his disorder non-stop, which I was specifically warned not to do by the NP at his school (which is a specialized private school for autism).

I'm sorry...  I turned this into a whine thread. :(

Fox News breaking news -- Democrats are rolling out a $500 billion stimulus package.    Where the hell do they keep those trees that they are growing this money on??

Lately, my days seem to come as if dispensed from a desktop stapler.  They are all alike and they bend the same way.

Sorry to hear about your son.  Hope the meds work to quell the siezures, with few side effects.

I'm still waiting for my check from the last "stimulus".

25 this morning, on the way to 42.  On swings this week, and the dog woke me up at normal time, of course.  Got the yardwork done, all the leaves are gone, but I've got a nice windburned face to show for it.

The fridge repair guy came (apparently SEARS doesn't have repair guys that can fix both a fridge and a dryer), the dryer repair guy is coming around noon.  I just wanted it looked over because someone was coming out anyway to fix the dryer but I'm so glad he came.  The "whirling" sound it was making was something wrong with the motor or some sort of panel or something.  The part alone would have cost us over $400.  So it was a good thing I added the fridge to the warranty yesterday.  I didn't even have to sign anything or pay a dime (well except for the warranty I paid for yesterday).

He totally flirted with me.  I know this is a little thing but I have felt so UGLY lately with my fake looking eye thing going on.  He asked me if I had kids and I said yes, then he asked me how old they were so I told him.  When I said that I had one in college he acted all surprised so I told him I had him when I was 22.  He said that is how old he would have guessed I was (total lie but I don't care).  I told him I was going to rush to the phone and call my husband to remind him that someone thought I looked young.

I told him about my eye (you know me, I am very vain) and he said he didn't even notice because I was so pretty.   :p

Who'd a thunk it that a Sears repair guy made me get my mojo back.  I was seriously feeling very depressed and yugly over the past two months.  I should have given him a tip or something for perking me up.  Maybe my husband paid him off and told him to say those things to me.

52 degrees outside right now, warmest it's been all week, so probably means we'll be doing PT outside today.  Blah...

<<<<hugs>>>> to you and your family FL....and prayers for your son that he has good results from the new meds and no side effect. (you google those meds if you want! don't let anybody tell you not to be as informed as possible)

Cool, intemittent rain and very damp again today. May clear up by Saturday.....or not. M suggested we put up the Christmas tree since the weather is supposed to be ugly. This from the man who usually says "do we have to have a tree up...and I'm not helping if we do" :o :o

Have a ton of paperwork and trying to help him do some computer work. He uses aol for his email, and they are stopping the way they have been sending pictures. I spent an hour yesterday trying to show him another way, it didn't work. Just tried again by doing a zip file and that wouldn't work either. Finally tried to add him to my msn account, couldn't get that to work and ended up sending 2 emails ....one from his account and the pics from mine. 36 pictures... :banghead: :banghead: He's a damn engineer!!!! Why can't he figure out how to do his own stuff?

He's on his own the rest of the day...... :thatsright:

I haz a chest cold.  :(

My wife took care of the kids this morning and let me sleep in so I woke up about half an hour ago.

I WAS going to be driving my daughter up to MN tonight for a Congressional Youth Leadership thing she is doing all weekend but instead I am cooped up with Robetusin and tea.

I mixed Sudafed and lots of coffee today.  Oops.

Feel like I've been on a shit roller coaster all day.  I may go ahead and turn in.

All I wanted to do was breathe.  I wasn't even feeling bad this morning until I started swallowing pills with my morning coffee.  :-)

The weather isn't spectacular down here, but it's not cold nor icy.   (Thank God!! Okies do NOT know how to drive on ice.  They make me crazy!)  It's been overcast all day, so not really nice, either.

We had a lovely day at work...NOT.  One person gone all day, and another took off at noon, and nurses throwing temper tantrums at monitors all afternoon.   ::)  The only bright spot was that the elevators weren't getting stuck today the way they did Monday.   :-)

But I am coming down with a cold, so way grouchier than I should be.   :argh: :maddernhell: :argh:

Beyond that, the evening is good.  Mr Smith will be home soon, way earlier than the last few weeks.  (No night classes or play practice tonight!!)   :-)

formerluker- I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and your son.  Hopefully there aren't any bad side effects.

As for me, I had a strange day. I got to work at 9 and I wrote & mailed some "pay up bitch" letters.  Btw, just to brag a minute, my overage ARs are down to 2%.

I had to do some computer work on the a computer downstairs, and that took over an hour.  Then the cashiers finally sent over their stuff and I got that done and back to the computer.

Then my boss decided to have a meeting on some stuff, and I found out they're about to install keypads to get into our office.

Then the boss decided it was time for Happy Hour at 5.  I was so far behind with work, I didn't even to my adjustments and balance my regular cash account.  Oh well, FREE MARGARITAS!    :cheersmate:

I'm now home, but I know since I didn't get half my work done today (stupid computer) I'm going to be at work late tomorrow.  Oh well.

Today was average.  Went to my A & P class and lab.  Went to see my advisor regarding classes next semester.

What's coming up for the Spring semester:

Medical Terminology
A & P II + Lab
Physical Environment + Lab

Student fees are so f***ing high this upcoming semester, thanks to that lovely $16 million green student center they're getting ready to build.  :bird:

DAMN IT ALL TO HELL!  :censored: My house FLOODED this afternoon.  I just got off the phone with my mom.  Apparently the water tank that feeds the upper floor of the house (we have two) busted, and now the entire left side of the house is pretty much ruined.  My room is fine, but it could have ended very badly, as the water was falling all over the breaker box, which is in the basement.  Water was flooding down the driveway when my mom got home.  State Farm sent someone out and they've been tearing up the brand-new carpet to help clean up the mess the water has made, and have fans all over the damn place to get it to dry faster.

The master bedroom and laundry room (2nd floor), living room and half-bathroom (1st floor), and certain portions of the basement were hit hard.  I just hope there are no electrical problems after this that could lead to more trouble.  I worry about my family and my pets more than anything, especially after the electrical fire our next-door neighbors had.

This week has sucked.  I doubt next week will be any better.   :banghead:

When I was in high school my best friend who lived up the street had their house flood from a pipe that had frozen and burst.  The whole house was a mess and almost all of the furniture was ruined downstairs.  They had to move out for quite some time.  I am so sorry this happened to your parents.

My biggest problem is congestion.  I got hooked on Afrin a few years ago and had to go cold turkey, so I know what habit-forming nasal sprays are like.  I use NasalCrom during the spring/summer for allerigies and started using it when the weather changed last month and it seemed to make things worse.  I have no idea if it's habit forming or not, but I started using Sudafed as an alternative.

I think I should stick to using it at night.

Congestion is  also my issue.

Wakes me up at night, then trying to fall back asleep laying down, it feels like I cant breathe. So I then move to the recliner and sleep semi-upright.  Some of the Rx steroid nasal sprays are now avail in generic, they help some folks.

It has been windy here, and that blows the dry dust around. Of course, I have a desert in my back yard, irritates the nose.
