Jamie S. Gorelick
As he prepares to take office, President-elect Barack Obama is relying on a small team of advisers who will lead his transition operation and help choose the members of a new Obama administration. Following is part of a series of profiles of potential members of the administration.
Name: Jamie S. Gorelick
Being considered for: Attorney general
Would bring to the job: A wide-ranging Washington résumé that spans corporate, legal and national security affairs. Ms. Gorelick (pronounced Guh-REH-lick) was the No. 2 official at the Justice Department in the Clinton administration, from 1994 to 1997, and if chosen would be the second woman to be named attorney general, following her former boss, Janet Reno. Ms. Gorelick would also bring corporate experience to an Obama administration at a time of financial crisis.
Is linked to Mr. Obama by: Deep contacts in Democratic circles and a background in civil rights. But Ms. Gorelick backed Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic primaries and contributed early on to her campaign, which could work against her as a contender. She contributed $10,000 to Mr. Obama’s presidential political action committee in August, after his nomination was all but assured.
In her own words: “You know someone respected you if they called you ‘sir,’ †Ms. Gorelick said, alluding to the glass ceiling at the Pentagon, where she worked as general counsel in the 1990s. “ ‘Ma’am’ is what you call your mom.â€
Used to work as: Vice chairwoman at Fannie Mae, the giant mortgage lender, where she was paid a reported $25.6 million in salary and other compensation from 1998 to 2003. She went on to join the Washington law firm Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale & Dorr as a partner, where she has represented a range of clients, including Duke University in defending claims brought against it by some of its lacrosse players in a highly publicized rape investigation. She was a Democratic appointee on the 10-member commission that investigated the Sept. 11 attacks.
Carries as baggage: Her work at Fannie Mae, which had to be bailed out by the government in September as part of a $200 billion deal. Ms. Gorelick left the company just as it was coming under attack for huge accounting failures. She has also drawn criticism for her role at the Justice Department, in which she allegedly created an intelligence “wall†that hindered counterterrorism agents in the years before the Sept. 11 attacks. Conservatives called for her removal from the Sept. 11 commission, but her fellow members rallied around her and said critics were distorting her record. The criticism grew so heated that the F.B.I. investigated a death threat against her family, and President Bush had to intervene personally to stop the Justice Department from releasing sealed reports involving her. Some conservative bloggers have already begun trying to derail Ms. Gorelick’s possible nomination as attorney general, pointing to her experiences at both Fannie Mae and the Sept. 11 commission.

We are SO screwed.
-
There's a true disaster in the making. Say, wasn't this Obama guy an "agent of change"? Change? SOS as far as I can see, and I'm on a high vantage point.
-
doesnt she have to approved by Congress? let's just hope the mountain of crap in her background finally comes out.
or is this a case of, Gorelick has too much info on the people around her to not let her pass?
so, yeah, we're kinda screwn either way..

Any correlation between "Change" and "Impprovement" is purely coincidental. After all, if people really expected improvement, they would say so instead of just using "Change."

If nominations like this start being confirmed, 2010 will be a bigger sweep than 1994 for the Republicans.

Gorelick is a true, true FoB (friend of Bill). Not only did she keep FBI and CIA from talking to each other during the Impeached One's reign, she covered his ass like Fruit of the Looms during the 9/11 "investigation". If der Fuhrer wants her, and Hillary isn't in a hopital bed in a coma; arms will be twisted, 900 FBI files will be dragged out - again - and Ms. Gorelick will sail through a confirmation hearing without so much as a question on whether her husband wears boxers or briefs.

I've been smuggled a secret tape and photo of three cabinet members in Obama's administration and what actually happened to Joe Lieberman when he met with Harry Reid.

Obama: A man becomes preeminent, he's expected to have enthusiasms. Enthusiams... What are mine? What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy? Baseball! A man stands alone at the plate. This is the time for what? For individual achievement. There he stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork... Looks, throws, catches, hustles.Part of one big team. Bats himself the live-long day, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and so on. If his team don't field... what is he? You follow me? No one. Sunny day, the stands are full of fans. What does he have to say? I'm goin' out there for myself. But... I get nowhere unless the team wins.

You beat me to it.

That's two goons from the Clinton era now. So when Obamalamadingdong said "change," that was code for "same shit, different year" I guess.
-
I saw this earlier, and wanted to comment. I had no words. My GOD people, this bitch? And Rahm Emanuel? And Jennifer Granholm on his economic steering committee?
A win in 2012 should be a landslide for the conservatives. Those welfare checks seem like a good idea now, until the morons who voted for him start losing their damn jobs. Batten the hatches. It's gonna be a rough ride. I implore all of you to start busting your asses to pay your credit cards off now.

I already have. Unlike most Americans I don't run up thousands of dollars in credit card debt then only pay the minumum. I do use my credit card. I just pay it off each month and if a major expense like a car repair comes up, I get it paid off within 2-4 months. I do admit that it takes me about 2 months each year to pay off the Christmas purchases.
That bit me in the ass about 20 years ago and I learned my lesson. Additionally I don't have any cards that have an annual fee nor do I have any cards that charge over 8% interest.
-
Oh dear God.
That is all.
-
Actually, because of illness, I did run up big credit card bills. And the Card Co's were, as I lay in a hospital induced coma, VICIOUS and DISHONEST with my wife and with interest rates. Once I was well enough and back at home, we liquidated some things, paid the credit cards off , cut them into pieces and will never ever have any again, except my Amex Card, which I COMPLETELY pay up every month.
Anyway, please listen, these credit card bastards are NOT to be trusted, and will run your interest rates up to 31%+ at the first chance they get. They are every bit as bad as the "mob", so don't walk away from their credit offers, RUN away.

Damn man, when are you going to get an avatar? :-)
BTW, by law, if you cancel a card at 12%, it stays at 12% until you pay it off.
-
What they do is lower yor credit bal, then charge the higher rate as you are over your "limit", among other nasty tricks.
