Title: New Hampshire-Massachusetts border war
Post by: NHSparky on November 09, 2008, 09:51:57 AM
Since I didn't want to hijack the Bush thread in elections, I invite formerlurker to join in the fray here.  As she and I banter quite a bit, don't be afraid, people--it's all (mostly) good natured.

Please please do.

The Everett liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility is the only existing LNG terminal serving the Northeast.

My heating oil comes from the Portsmouth/Newington terminal.  My wood from my back yard.

Massachusetts is one of the few States that require the statewide use of reformulated motor gasoline blended with ethanol.

Which drives up the price, reduces fuel efficiency, and basically burns out engine seals.

Massachusetts is a leading source of electricity generated from landfill gas and municipal solid waste.

And you still import electricity.  And even then, biomass only generates 2 percent of your electricity.

Massachusetts is the only New England State that relies significantly on coal-fired power plants, with coal accounting for one-fourth of electricity generation.

And how many of them are INSIDE Massachusetts?  Answer: FOUR.  All targeted for closure.  And please note that your average electric price is second-highest in the nation.  43 percent of our electricity generated in NH (which we export) is generated by ONE nuclear plant--Seabrook.  Coal also generates 18 percent of our electricity.  Can you claim that less than 30 percent of your electricity is generated by oil/gas?  I didn't think so.

Currently on hold indefinitely becase as Fat Teddy claims, "But we go SAILING there!"
