Pelosi says voters misunderstood Prop. 8 (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2008/11/08/MNE0140996.DTL)
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed deep disappointment on Friday that California voters approved Prop. 8, the measure banning same-sex marriage, and defended her ally, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, against critics who say his actions contributed to its passage.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Chronicle, Pelosi said she believes some voters might not have fully understood the initiative, which overturned a state Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage. The measure was approved 52 to 48 percent.
"Unfortunately, I think people thought they were making a statement about what their view of same-sex marriage was," the San Francisco Democrat said. "I don't know if it was clear that this meant that we are amending the Constitution to diminish freedom in our state."

that chick would be dangerous if she wasn't so incredibly stupid.
-
It's just like that elitist bitch to say some bullshit like that.
-
If that's true, and we are talking Kali-forn-yah here, an equal number would misunderstand in the opposite way, so, no net change if everyone understood perfectly! :thatsright:

Stupid cow probably has to send someone outside to check and see if the sun comes up everyday

On the flip side, her stupidity is what makes her dangerous.

I agree completely, HG. she was entertaining until we lost the white house, and are coming close to 60 dems in the senate. but she is still incompetent, and dumb as a rock. so, maybe there is hope yet.

Hmmmm...given the money, coverage, and signage involved on Prop 8, I'm pretty sure NOBODY in the entire state of California went into the voting booth ignorant of where they stood on Prop 8.
My God--this woman's botox treatments have finally killed her last functioning brain cell. Someone get her on her taxpayer-funded 757 and start flying her from San Fran to DC--the LONG way. No fillups along the way.

you live in californicate. did YOU understand prop 8?

Actually, long story short, I don't live there anymore, but Mrs. Sparky is there, and she understood it quite well. Hell, just read the text to the ballot and it's pretty clear what it's asking.

oops. I had you confused with freedumb. now, how did THAT happen?

A second great thing happened with the passage:
From the article:
Newsom played a starring role in TV and radio ads aired by the Yes on Prop. 8 campaign, which seized on his remarks at a rally in May after the court's ruling that same-sex marriages were "going to happen, whether you like it or not." The measure's passage was seen as a blow to the possibility of a Newsom bid for governor.
Newsom is an elitist bastich. He has always creeped me out. A can't imagine a more corrupt man to hold office. I was almost kicked out of DU over Newsom. The issue was an article about Newsom having an affair with his closest adviser's wife.the adviser quit, and got divorced/and the wife was dumped by Newsom when publicity hurt him, and she ended in a drug tank.
--> I suggested Newsom resign, and the DUers went nuts! Why I wasn't TS'd, I'll never know. But betrayal of your best friend is OK if you are an elitist liberal bastich.
Its always amazing to me, DU will tolerate corruption, adultery, all violations of law, as long as its their guy. As long as he tosses a bone to the primitives, he can do any evil thing he wants. Primitives have no concept of responsibility or decency. But raw power with all the abuses and privileges IS respected by them (as long as only THEY hold that power).

Hey, it may be a haven for liberals, but I love my state. I have lived in many states in the US (never been to CA, although my husband lived there for a year) - MA was and always will be home to me.
I only drive through NH to get to Maine and VT. :-*
As for this article, can we agree also Nancy that the voters in CA when casting their vote for the Messiah had no idea what they were voting for?
-
Her claims in that article are ludicrous.
First she calls the people of California stupid...and then as if to hammer that point home she claims they thought they were voting on personal opinion rather than coded law.
Which is usually the line of thinking by the Libs when one of their pet projects goes down in flames.

Fine--at least I can buy alcohol on Sundays.
And don't ask the Botox Queen to apply her idiotic statements to all situations. Don't you know liberals can "nuance" themselves out of any corner?

It an insane, and politically dangerous position to take - As I said in another post, it seems both the blacks and the gay folks view each other as useful idiots. And now that Prop 8 has done its damage to their cause, all of the distrust of the new electorate is coming out into the daylight in California.
Nancy is making her position clear. Blacks=Stupid. The protests and marches by the people of love and tolerance using the N word to describe blacks makes her position clear. Its disgraceful.

Could we use that same excuse for repealing the Obama vote? "They didn't know what they were voting for! We MUST go to court!" :whatever:

Still in the planning phase (I am pretty sure you meant me). Mrs. FD wants to wait 2 years until we pay off our current home so we won't have 2 mortgages. OTOH, now that L.A. wants to up our Sales Tax to 10+%, it is back on the table for sooner.

They holler when conservatives get caught because we profess to have values.
The reason they don't holler when their own get caught is twofold:
First, they are moral relativists. Since they do not belive in any moral absolute--except what is momentarily convenient--they can brush off such offenses without being hypocritical. An adulterous conservative is a hypocrite but adultery is an impossible definition in the liberal schema.
The second reason plays into the first: as moral relativists what IS important is The Revolution, the destruction of the enemy. To them, that is the highest good. Newsom resigning would have jeopardized that good because they do not want marriage sanctified by proscriptions against faithless sex etc. The husband and the abandoned girlfriend? Mere collateral damage. If conservatives value marriage and draw strength from it the liberals must target it as an industry of war.
