CDC Study Shows No Health Risk Associated with Traditional Lead Ammunition
http://www.nssf.org/BP2/SpecialBP.htm
A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study on human lead levels of hunters in North Dakota has confirmed what hunters throughout the world have known for hundreds of years, that consuming game harvested with traditional ammunition poses absolutely no health risk to people, including children, and that the call to ban lead ammunition was and remains a scare tactic being pushed by anti-hunting groups to forward their political agenda. Today, additional information became available about the CDC study, originally released yesterday, that is important to disseminate to hunters, their families and the general public about the total and...

Us hunters and fishermen have been saying that all along........

California enviro-whackos have already gotten legislation passed to ban waterfowl hunting with lead shot. MN has, too. The alternatives aren't as good or accurate and are extremely costly.

There is a legit concern with waterfowl, but it's the effect on the waterfowl in heavily hunted areas, not an issue of secondary effects on humans. Besides, mere facts have never stood in the way of the EPA before.

Hopefully I can get some lead sinkers again too. I hate those other ones, they fall off too easy.

Shit where you been. Non toxic shot has been required for years now. NC since the 80's. I don't know about others, but for waterfowl you haven't had a choice in years

Huh? We still have lead sinkers here. You can also order them from several places online.

Really!?!?! I haven't seen them in years except in my Papaw's fishing box! I will have to look harder next time. :hyper:

Plenty of lead fishing weights in MN. They seem to be readily accepted.
CH, I don't hunt birds. I'm a MEAT eater.......

Of course it has an effect on waterfowl. People are shooting them. I'd say that is an effect. :-)

Good point, but the non-lead shot has a similar effect in that regard. The spent shot lands in the shallows where the birds feed, and gets in their food chain, which does poison them. Haevy metals don't accumulate in muscle tissue though so even if the ducks experience some toxicity from it, there isn't much of any effect of people eating them.

It's been 20 years since we've been saddled with steel shot. I can't tell you how many waterfowl I've taken with old bruises from steel shot that bounced off.
The alternatives are pretty good. Heavy Shot works as well as lead as does and Tungsten also.
The price isn't too bad...............................if you like paying $20 for a box of 10 shells :bawl:
