Dear President Elect Obama, my application for employment in your administration
Dear Senator Obama,
For the last several years American workers have suffered under the current administrations polices and appointees. I would like to apply for a job that is first and foremost for fairness of the American worker. I am asking to be your Secretary of Labor. I am much more qualified than Elaine Chao ever could be.
Twice in my life I have been fired illegally. Twice a union has won my rights through legal action. I know what it means to be the head of a family without a job during bad times. I know bankruptcy as a result of these actions too. I have also had two on the job accidents that resulted in two different partial impairments.
I have some unique qualifications that will provide for fairness to workers and employers on a case by case basis. Since you don't know much about me, just ask my 100,000 plus friends at the Democratic Underground for their opinion. They have been reading my labor opinions for over four years.
Regards,
Steven L Dawes

35. Dear Senator Obama
Congratulation on your great victory for the citizens of the United States. I write to you on this day of quiet reflection and ask, as you contemplate your staff for the next four years, to consider the letter of introduction posted by our friend and defender of labor ethics, Steve "Omaha" Dawes. His tireless efforts here at the Democratic Underground (you know of us, we make a lot of noise, but a lot of sense too) to enlighten the membership of the trials and tribulations of the Nation's Labor movement (which I am POSITIVE will once again become powerful under your leadership) at great personal sacrifice to himself. I personally vouch for him, and am positive he will make a fine addition to your Cabinet.
Let's give them even more Hope for Change by placing Steve on your staff.
Best Regards,
Dain Bramaged,

So...I bet 'Mr. Dawes' probably doesn't know the first things about the Acts of Congress that enabled unions(and eventually had to restrict them too). So Mr. Dawes are you trying to challenge a document that says unions MUST be voted in by employees and are going to forcably make them? You are going to go up then against an act that in its very wording allowed only changes for constitutionality, but not complete scrapping of it.
If you are so confident in unions, allow employees their current right to vote them in if they want them, but I get a very suspicious feeling he's not realy comfy with how that works now since some elections can be *gasp* lost and unions sent packing.
I'm not totally anti-union either. They do serve their purpose, but I do not think an employee should have to belong to one or that a group of employees should be FORCED to have an exclusive bargaining agent if they don't want one.
As for Sec of Labor, there probably isn't a person on that board that holds a balanced view or any sense of economics that should hold any position of power and influence.
To the guy in the AFL-CIO, one of the AFL's founding beliefs was the belief in capitalism. The last thing they ever wanted to do was bankrupt or hostage a company from being able to grow and prosper, recongnizing that if the company does well, they have more power to bargain for the employees. You have just helped elect with the help of your out of touch leadership a president who is a hindrance to business doing well and a hindrance to small business developing to the point that the union can even have a fighting chance of being voted in. Congrats on shooting yourselves in your collective feet.
For my CC friends, the reason for the union rant was the accredations given in support of their qualifications and the fact that they are both union members and rabid DU-ites which in itself makes their views likely extreme on the issue of unionization.

...and after you hire me you can't fire me or I'll sue.
And as they fling him under the bus, Obomber will be saying, "Democratic Undergroud??? Never heard of it......is that somewhere to shop like Underground Hotlanta?"

Dear Steve,
I am in receipt of your letter requesting that you be permitted to apply for Secretary of Labor. Thank you and all your useful idiot friends ...... errr........ those at DU for their support.
As I have very little working knowledge of gov't other than scamming money in order to give it to organizations who, in turn, can't accomplish anything, this is a little new to me. Can you type and take shorthand? I'm pretty sure that secretary's need to be able to do that kind of thing. I might have you come in and make a pot of coffee and we'll see how it goes from there.
If you are unable to obtain work in my administration, just stand by for further insturctions. I know just how helpless you are without someone holding your hand and telling you how to live your life, that idea of independent thought being such a burden, so I'll be doing all I can to create the nanny state you've wanted for so long. The USSR had the right idea, they just didn't have the right people in place. We are the change we've been hoping to change .... or whatever it was I said that made you scream in delight like a teenager.
Hang in there. I've got mine.
Sincerely,
Just call me your Sugar Daddy

My fellow Nebraskan OmahaSteve is just in a pissy mood, because the wisdom of the people of Nebraska compelled them to vote to ban "affirmative" "action" (quotation marks intentional) here, and that had been his pet cause.
The vote to ban it was pretty heavy.

Only a real idiot posts their real names on a site like DU.
And union affiliation.
-
I'm sure Obama (He of the Harvard Law degree with the Princeton-educated wife) is dying to pick someone for a cabinet position in Labor who has a basic education and whose whole knowledge of labor law, policy, and theory consists of getting in pissing contests with shop foremen and arguing over what was actually meant by poorly-worded clauses in his bargaining agreement.

Dear President Elect Obama, my application for employment in your administration
Dear Senator Obama,
For the last several years I haven’t had a job and I have suffered because the current requirements necessary to have and hold a position of employment. Because I am still unemployed I would like to apply for a job that is first and foremost for fairness of the American workers, especially an American worker name Steven L Dawes. I am asking to be your Secretary of Labor. I am much more qualified than Elaine Chao ever could be.
Twice in my life I have been fired and twice I had to beg a union official and offer him sexual favors in order to get my job back. So you see I know what it means to be the head of a family without a job when everybody else in my family was working. I know bankruptcy, bankruptcy and I were good friends until the damn repukes changed the bankruptcy laws. I am also familiar with soaking up workers comp benefits I have faked two on the job accidents that resulted in two different pretend partial impairments. I’ve gotten so good at faking these injuries over the years that no insurance investigator has been able to catch me doing thing I’m theoretically incapable of doing.
I have some other unique qualifications that will provide for fairness to workers, especially an American worker name Steven L Dawes, and employers on a case by case basis. Since you don't know much about me, just ask the dozen or so people at the Democrat Underground who claim to have actually read the stuff I’ve posted. They say that they have been reading my labor opinions for over four years but I can only take their word on this. Perhaps you should sign up at DU and post a couple of thousand messages in order to get searching privileges. You will then be able to find my brilliant writings for you self.
Regards,
Steven L Dawes
